She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. Mrs. Cole was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation where she worked in the Reeling Department. She had also worked as a special duty nurse at Carter County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service for Mrs. Olive Cole, age 88, was conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 27, 2003 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral Home. Interment followed in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

LTC Dean Smith Blevins, RA, CRST, 83, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from his residence, following an extended illness. Dean was born in Elizabethton to the late Frank and Edna Davis Blevins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John A. and Cora Davis of Butler, Tenn., and his paternal grandparents, Quinton and Callie Sue Blevins of Ashe County, N.C.
Dean was a 1953 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a graduate of ETSU, Class of 1958, where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He retired from the United States Army after 24 years of service. Dean served two years in Vietnam as a Second Lieutenant Field Artillery, Battery D 330 Guard. He also served in the Tennessee National Guard from July 1953 to August 1958 and worked at the Pentagon for four years. He was a graduate of several military schools, including the Army Commander, General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and served in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri and Bemberg, Germany. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star for service of Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star of Valor also in the Oak Leaf Cluster. Dean had also worked as a realtor for both Shell and Associates and Russ Swanay. He was widely known as the Elizabethton Flag Man.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Carol Robinson Blevins, of the home; two sons, Kurt Blevins (Lane) of North Carolina and Thomas Blevins of Fairfax, Va.; a step-daughter, Catherine Stewart (Brad) of Florida; his grandchildren, T.J. Blevins, Brittany Blevins, Catherine Blevins, Smith Blevins and Harrison Blevins; one great-grandchild, Jade Blevins; and his special family, Joey and Pam Nave, Jessica and Linkin Hopson, Hunter and Glenna Nave and Diane and Warren Childress and family.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of LTC Dean Smith Blevins, RA, CRST will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Greg Key, minister, and Pastor Kenny Lethcoe officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kenny and Kathy Lethcoe. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 until 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Campbell, Glenn McQueen, Terry Pierce, Richard "Jarfly" Dugger, Luther McKeehan and Joey Nave. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:20 p.m. Monday.

ELIZABETHTON - Doris Spears Bare, 87, of Elizabethton, TN left her earthly body on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by her family for her Heavenly body after a lengthy fight with Dementia. Doris was born in Sullivan County, TN on November 06, 1933 to the late Frank and Maude Davis Spears. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Kenneth and Eugene Spears.

Doris was a homemaker who loved to keep a spotless home. She loved to cook for her family and friends. Nobody left her home hungry. She loved to travel and made many bus trips with her best friend and aunt, the late Opal Odom. She enjoyed reading her Bible which she read completely seven times. She enjoyed going to church until her health prevented it. She never met a stranger, would help anyone she could and loved everyone. She was a life long member of Mountain View Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years who was her loving caregiver, John H. Bare. Three daughters: Merita Kent, Teresa Harding and Jennifer Arnold. Four Grandchildren: Jonathan and Jessica Harding, Holly Ray and Emilee Jones. Four Great Grandchildren: Gabe and Avery Harding and Bentley and Brenlee Jones. Five sisters and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12-1:30 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, followed by the Funeral at 1:30 p.m. with Minister David Irick and Hospice Chaplin Chris Hughes, Officiating. Burial will follow at the Emmert Cemetery, Keenburg Rd. Elizabethton, TN. Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Harding, Anthony Payne, Justin Ray, Brandon Kent, Tony Trivett and Marvin Bare. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Bare, Earl Bare, Marvin Grindstaff, Lonnie Harding, Fritz Jones, Drew Jones and Tim Buck. The family would like to thank the Caregivers from Hillview Home Care, especially Ashley Smith, Jeannean Markley and Janice Hamilton and many others who cared for Doris over the past 6 plus years of her illness. A special thank you to Megan Renfro with Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care given to Doris and Hospice Chaplain Chris Hughes for many visits and prayers. Also, a special thank you to her granddaughter and nurse Jessica Harding, during her last hours.

Patricia Ann Clyburn went to be with the Lord at the Johnson City Medical Center on Friday morning, June 24, 2022. Affectionately known as Trish, she was 74 years old when she passed away.

Patricia was born on January 8, 1948 in Sullivan County. Growing up in Bluff City, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Frank Spears and the late Maude Spears.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Kenneth Spears and Eugene Spears, and two sisters: Doris Bare and Faye Taylor.

Survivors include husband Dewey Clyburn, two children: Deanna Buford (Kurt)of Huntsville Alabama, and Allen Clyburn of Johnson City, Tennessee, three sisters: Cora Sue Pierce(Joel) of Elizabethton, Tennessee, Linda Landers(Carmon) of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Eula Jones of Johnson City, Tennessee. Patricia leaves behind two very special granddaughters, both of Huntsville, Alabama. Emilee "Emme" Buford and Jessica Buford. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews along with a melee of friends that she met throughout her life.

Patricia prided herself on the love of family and lived life to the fullest with a vivacious sense of humor while enjoying the company of her many beloved pets throughout the years. She leaves behind the love of her life, husband Dewey Clyburn as they traveled the world together while Dewey faithfully served his country for 20 plus years in the Army. She was a loyal wife, devoted mother, loving sister and friend. She often gave more of herself, and to others, than she could but would do so with a grateful heart. Although no longer with us, Patricia will surely be missed by everyone.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at The Malone Family Cemetery with Pastor Paul Peer officiating. Guests are asked to meet by 1:00 pm at Tetrick Funeral Home Bluff City Chapel to go in procession to the cemetery. Dr. Douglas Cole, 76, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday evening, November 11, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Dr. Cole was born June 3, 1942 in Elizabethton and was the son of the late A C and Olive Rey Davis Cole.
Dr. Cole was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School, a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and the University of Tennessee Dental School-Memphis. He was the past president of the First Tennessee Dental Society and a recipient of the Tennessee Dental Association Fellowship Award in 1983.
Dr. Cole was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and had served as a deacon and chairman of the Deacon Board. He was a former member of the church choir and taught Sunday School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Dental Corps on the USS Franklin Roosevelt in the Mediterranean Sea.
He was a former member of the Elizabethton City Council and the Elizabethton Rotary Club. He was a member and past Worshipful Master of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM, and a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason.
He had many hobbies, including wood-working, hunting, sailing, golf, stained glass artistry, painting, and loved to travel. Dr. Cole was well known for his culinary skills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Sue Hahn.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Graybeal Cole, of the home; four daughters, Kelly (Dustin) Walters and Emily (Erik) Morganstern, both of Johnson City, Tenn., Melissa Graybeal of Atlanta, and Daphne (Shane) Seybert of Grayson, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Cole Morganstern, Caroline Morganstern, Kate Walters, Emma Walters, Parke Walters, Sam Seybert and Sawyer Seybert.

Dorothy Sue Welch, age 78, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born July 10, 1943 to the late Barney and Eura Bell Coldiron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Marty Darrell Welch, Barry Claude Welch; daughter, Donna Marie Welch; grandson, Dokken Swift; and brother, Barty Ray Coldiron.

Sue lived a happy and full life. She was always a hard worker and took pride in the work she did. In her early years she was an employee at Levis, and later worked as a painter, housekeeper, and caretaker. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything, and also enjoyed working in her yard, watching ball games, and going on trips with family and friends. Sue was loved by many and was known as “Momma Sue” and “Nanny Sue”. She was a member of Nelson’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Sherry Lynn Slagle and Tammy Welch; sister, Polly Hammons of Mountain City; brother, Kenneth Darrell Coldrion (Lib) of Elkon, NC; grandchildren, Shawna Dyan Smith and Sarah Beth Jennings (Mark); great-grandchildren, Matthew Swift, Taylor Swift, Zoey Swift, Bayley Williams, McKenzie Jennings, Lucas Jennings, and Gabbi Robbins; nieces, Susie Henson, Sandy Hammons, and Kim Settle; special friends, Frances Brooks, Theresa Sturgill Wexler, Christy Fletcher, Sandy Pell; and several others.

The family received friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service followed with Pastor Mike McNutt to officiate. Entombment followed the funeral service at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Mark Jennings, Stevie Cross, Charlie Greene, Larry Dunn, Fred Pell, and Kenneth Coldiron. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Swift and Billy Bryant.
