Robert James Trivett Sr., age 85, of Matthews, North Carolina went to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 12th, 2022. Robert was born in Avery County, N.C. on August 21st, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents Eldridge and Mamie Oakes Trivett, siblings Clarence, Betty, Lee and Doris also his daughters Melinda and Shannon. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years Thelma (nee Grammer), sons Robert Jr. (wife Jan) and Steve (wife Veda), grandsons Christopher, Michael and Joshua, granddaughter Lizzy. He was an Air Force veteran and a faithful member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church (Long/Jones S.S. class). He enjoyed traveling with friends and family and attending Southern Gospel music concerts.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, February 19th, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28227. A celebration of life service will follow at 3:00 pm. A private interment will occur Monday, February 21st, 2022, in Newland, N.C.

Douglas McArthur Vance, 77, of Avery County went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 while at home, surrounded by his family watching the birds and his grandchildren play. He was born on Sept. 2, 1942, in Mitchell County, NC to the late Jasper Hayden Vance and Carrie Ella Trivett Vance. “Mac” was a 1961 graduate of Crossnore High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Sisters: Verna Sue Vance, Vida Carpenter, Georgie Lee Prather and Selma Vance. He was also preceded in death by his Sister: Alice Vance; Sister: Thelma Vance and Brother: Daniel Vance, who died in infancy.

Doug leaves behind to cherish his memory in love, a large family: his Wife: Patsy F. Vance; and Children: Deborah and Robbie Vance of Stamey Branch and Curtis Vance of Nebo; his Grandchildren: Cassie Vance and Thomas Taylor Jr. of Land Harbor, Caitlyn Vance and husband John Klinedinst II of Moore, Okla., Ella Singleton and husband Josh Singleton of Linville, Curtis Vance Jr. and wife Abigail Vance of Newland, Zachary Vance, Macie Vance and Autumn Vance; and his Great-grandchildren: Conner Brewer, Abby Brewer, Hadley Klinedinst, Emmaline Singleton, Ethan Singleton, Karson Whitehead and Karter Vance. He is also survived by his three Brothers and Sister: Ted Vance of Morganton, Hayden Vance of Stamey Branch, Joe Vance of Morganton, and Brenda Clements of Rutherford College, NC, as well as extended Family: Harriet Coffee of Charlotte, Lisa Miller of Valdese, and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and close loved ones of the Vance Family.

In his early life Douglas enjoyed listening to music, watching and playing various sports and helping his parents on the farm. He met the love of his life and married her on May 16, 1964. Together Doug and Patsy built a strong and close family that Douglas dedicated his life to supporting. He retired from carpentry in 2002 when he was 60 years old and since enjoyed playing with his dog Caesar, watching birds, old western movies and preaching, listening to bluegrass and gospel music, playing with his great grandchildren and enjoying his time with his siblings.

He will be remembered by many members of the community as a loving and kind man that loved his Lord our Savior and his family.

Visitation was held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Stamey Town Missionary Baptist Church followed by Funeral Services and graveside rights at Stamey Town Community Cemetery in the Stamey Branch Community, with Rev. Russel Hoilman & Rev. Tommy Carver officiating. Special singing services will be done by Mac's Niece, Nikki Prather and Son, Curtis Vance with his church men’s choir group “The Guys” from Marion First Freewill Baptist. EJ of Piper Jones will be providing special musical services as well.

Sylvia Trivett Hubble, age 68, of Jonas Ridge, NC, went to be with Jesus and her parents in Heaven on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC.

She was born on June 23, 1949, in Mitchell County, NC, a daughter of the late Roger Trivett and Lily Vance Trivett.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; her first husband: Sylvester "Roger" Clark; and her beloved pet, Chico.

Sylvia was a volunteer for Linville Central Rescue Squad for many years. She also enjoyed all of her animals, needlepoint, flowers, gardening and woodworking. She was very artistic and she enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed to listen to Southern Gospel music.

Sylvia leaves behind to cherish her memory her Husband: Hugh Hubble of Jonas Ridge, NC; Two Daughters: Elizabeth "Doodle" Wiseman of Marion, NC, and Michele Niehenke of Hunker, Pa.; Four Sons: Lee Clark of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Mark (Patti) Clark of Jonas Ridge, NC, Hugh (Amy) Hubble II of Jeanette, Pa., and Kenneth Hubble of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; Grandchildren: Sara, Lillie, and Scott Wiseman, Ashley Clark, Sarah and Nathan Niehenke, Shannon, Alex, Kenneth Jr., and Duncan Hubble; Two Brothers: Bill (Lisa) Trivett of Plumtree, NC, Charles (Brenda) Trivette of Plumtree, NC; and several nieces and nephews that she loved and to whom she was a second mother to.

Funeral Services for Sylvia Trivett Hubble will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with John Beach officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Daniels Cemetery following the funeral service on Tuesday May 22, 2018.

Vivian A. Schackow, 88, of Mackinaw, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria. Vivian was born Aug. 27, 1931, in Elk Park, NC to Hobert and Fairy Jones Church. She married Robert E. Schackow. He preceded her in death July 10, 2009. Also preceding her in death were her Parents; two Sisters: Nadine and Joyce; and one Brother: Ross.

Vivian is survived by eight Children: Sherry (Bill) Olson of Peoria, Marcia Ashley of Peoria, Rose (Dan) Hoffman of Metamora, Christina (Mark) Fadele of Lockport, NY, Robert Schackow Jr. of Lacon, Alan (Guylene) Schackow of Marquette Heights, Daniel Schackow of Peoria, Mark Schackow of Mackinaw; 22 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; three Brothers: Dale (Jeanette) Church of Kernersville, NC, Hobart (Elsie) Church Jr. of Elk Park, NC, and Lowell (Anita) Church of Elk Park, NC.

Vivian retired from Illinois Central College. She was a member of Harvest Baptist Temple in Mackinaw.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at Harvest Baptist Temple in Mackinaw. The Rev. Tim Severt officiated. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, and 30 minutes prior to services on Saturday at Harvest Baptist Temple. Haensel Funeral Home in Mackinaw is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial was held at Mackinaw Township Cemetery.

Elbert Ross Church, age 85, of Newland, NC passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1934, in Avery County, NC, a son of the late Hobert Church and the late Fairy Jones Church.

Ross was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Signal Corps. He began his career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections in Ashe County and retired as the Superintendent of the Avery County Correctional Facility. A faithful Christian, he was a member and Deacon of the Sugar Mountain Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two Sisters: Nadine Glover and Joyce Reece.

Ross was loving husband, father, and grandfather who truly cherished every minute with his family and friends. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his Wife of 54 years: Billie Banner Church of Newland, NC; Son: Lynn (Melissa) Church of Newland, NC; Grandson: Ethan Ross Church of Newland, NC; Grandson: Eli Justin Church of Newland, NC; Sister: Vivian Schackow of Peoria, Ill.; Brother: Dale (Jeanette) Church of Kernersville, NC; Brother: Hobert (Elsie) Church, Jr. of Elk Park, NC; Brother: Lowell (Anita) Church of Elk Park, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Elbert Ross Church will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, from the Sugar Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Heinz, Rev. Don Ford, Rev. David Burnop, and Rev. Josh Calvert officiating. Interment will follow in the Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Grant Gibson, Greg Gibson, Blake Banner, Brent Banner, Toby Church, Chris Church, Lance Wright and Mark Parlier.

Honorary pallbearers are: Roger Banner, Mickey Banner, Randy Banner, Ed Gibson, Rick Huskins, Mark Taylor and Glen Watts.
