MRS. JOHN A. LOWE
Funeral services for Mrs. John A. Lowe, 89, who died at her home in Mountain City at 8 a.m. today, will be held at the Mountain City Baptist Church Tuesday.
Mrs. Lowe was a daughter of the late David and Mrs. W. Wills.
She was a member of the Baptist church of Mountain City.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. C. O. Shupe, Mrs. N. A. Jenkins, Mrs. Ethel Goodwin, and Mrs. J. M. Fritts; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be in charge of the Donnelly Funeral Home of Shouns.

COLD SPRINGS - Mildred Pauline Dancy, 103, of Cold Springs, passed away February 14, 2023 in Mountain City, Tennessee, after suffering a stroke.

Pauline, as she liked to be called, was born February 20, 1919 to the late Charles O. Shupe and Mary Ethie Lowe Shupe in Cold Springs, Johnson County, Tennessee. Her father ran the Shupe Roller Mill which had been in the family for over 100 years. Pauline attended local schools and graduated from Johnson County High School. After graduation, Pauline took the advice of a cousin and attended the Beauty Academy in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina where she received her cosmetology license. It was also in North Wilkesboro where she met her future husband, Isham Wiles Dancy.

Pauline and Ike were married on April 1, 1939 at the courthouse in Independence, Virginia. Soon after, they moved to Baltimore, Maryland where Ike worked as a welder at the Bethlehem Steel Shipyards.

MOUNTAIN CITY — Joseph M. "Jake" Fritts, age 90, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the Watauga Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee, and was born on June 6, 1920, the son of the late Joe M. and Gertie Lowe Fritts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Doris, Euna, Minnie and Winnie; and two brothers: Manis and Manuel.

Mr. Fritts was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Air Corps. He was a member and past adjutant of the American Legion, Johnson County Post No. 61, and of the Johnson County Historical Society. Mr. Fritts was one of the oldest living members and had the longest membership attendance record at First Baptist Church of Mountain City.

He was in the produce business for many years, having been associated with Beverly's Inc. of Pahokee and Homestead, Florida. He was also employed by Bush Brothers Canning Company of Dandridge, Tennessee, as their green bean buyer in Mountain City.

Mr. Fritts is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Ruby Moretz Fritts; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Norman E. Garland, of Boone, NC; one grandson, Douglass Blake Garland, of Pleasant Garden, NC; one granddaughter, Sonya Ann Winkler, of Boone, NC; five great grandchildren: Jackson and Lauren Garland, Hanna and Holden Hartzog and Jacob Winkler; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010, at the First Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Ricky Campbell, Minister Jim Hutchinson and Pastor Wynn Greer to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the First Baptist Church Choir.

Military Honors and Interment will follow from the Sunset Memorial Park and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers are: Jack Swift, Jack Cress, Sonny Stout, Bill Hughes, James Lefler, Harold Garland, Terry Thompson and Pat Greene. Honorary Pallbearers are: Bob Miller, Jay Woodards, Ray Payne, Blaine Stout, Nelson Gray and Roby Howard Jr.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683; or the American Legion, Johnson County Post No. 61, 854 Rhea Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.

Dorris married James P. Huskins on 12 Apr 1944 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee. James (son of Walter Emery Huskins and Mamie O. Gentry) was born on 9 Jul 1923 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 31 May 1998 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Phillippi Cemetery, Highway 421, Johnson County, Tennessee. Larry Dale Huskins, age 73, of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on November 4, 1945 to the late Jim and Doris (Fritts) Huskins. In addition to his parents, Larry has preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Horne Huskins, who passed away 2003.

He loved sports and was an avid NASCAR and Miami Dolphins fan. He had a laughter that would light up a room. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed going to their ballgames. Larry enjoyed passing time sitting on his front porch. He was a simple man who lived a simple life.

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Kevin Huskins and wife Meghan; sister, Dolores Johnson and husband Jack; brother, Paul Huskins and wife Wanda; grandchildren, Connor Huskins, Dylan Huskins and Cayden Huskins; sister-in-law, Carolyn Woods and husband Richard 'RC'Woods; special cousin, Shirley Watson and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Phillippi Cemetery.
