Gladys Forbes Snyder, age 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 21, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born October 27,1923 in Washington County, TN to William M. Forbes and Etta May Boone. She was an excellent homemaker and loved cooking family meals, canning, and gardening.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Dudley Sherman Snyder on April 7,1993 and three brothers, Earnest Forbes of Princeton, WV, Paul Forbes of Princeton, WV and L H. Forbes of Portsmouth, Va; sisters, Eliza Jenkins of Elizabethton, Va; Emma G. Forbes of Johnson City, Tn, Ella Marteen Forbes of Johnson City, TN, and Hazel Foster of Johnson City, Tn.

She was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Challengers Sunday School for over 40 years. She had a servant's heart and all who knew her will remember her sweet disposition and service to her church.

She leaves behind two children to cherish her memories, daughter: Dianne M. Snyder of Johnson City, Tn; son, Chris S. Snyder and his wife Jane of Jonesborough, TN.; one grandson, Michael Martin of Elizabethton, Tn. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rachel Monderer for her love and care of Mrs. Snyder for the past 24 years as well as her many friends and family for their kindness.

Mrs. McHone was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Hector N. and Eugenia Julian Boone. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Garland, in 1964, and her second husband, Troy F. McHone, in 1991. ROAN MOUNTAIN — Mr. Blaine Robert Boone, 88, of Roan Mountain, TN died Saturday, October 30, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a lengthy illness.

A native of Roan Mountain, he was the son of the late Hector and Eugenia Julian Boone. Mr. Boone had retired as owner and operator of the Roan Mountain Grocery. He had served as president of the Roan Mountain Water Authority for many years and had been president of the Roan Mountain American Legion Post #229.

Mr. Boone attended Heaton Creek Holiness Church and the Roan Mountain Church of God. He was a U.S. Army veteran having received the expert infantry badge, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He loved his family, the people of Roan Mountain and his many friends, gospel music and animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gibbs Boone; five brothers, Crumley Boone, Oran Boone, Ivan Boone and Forrest Boone; an infant brother and by two sisters, Okla McHone and Mary Andrews.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Fleenor, Hampton, TN; two granddaughters, Jennifer Sizemore and husband Tony, Gray, TN and Teressa Fleenor, Johnson City, TN; six great-grandchildren, Marah Sizemore, Evan Sizemore, Elissah Sizemore, Lydiah Sizemore, Holly Bumgarner and husband Tony and Nathaniel Martin; two great-great-grandchildren, Adrianna Bumgarner and Chloe Bumgarner. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Blaine Robert Boone will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Monday, November 1, 2010 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Lusk, Rev. Ronnie Lackey and Rev. Roy Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:30 P.M. on Monday prior to the funeral service.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. James Frank Hughes, Sr., age 94, of Linville, NC passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at his home with his family present.

He was born on June 20, 1925, in Linville, NC, a son of the late C.H. Hughes and the late Bertha Boone Hughes.

He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II having served in Europe. C.H. Hughes and his sons, Dave and Jim, started the Linville Lumber Co. in 1945 and built the Pixie Motel, of which Jim and Marietta became the sole owners of in 1962. A lifelong Republican, Jim had served as a Representative and a Senator in the North Carolina General Assembly and as the Linville Precinct Chairman for more than 60 years. He established and was the President of the nonprofit Florence Boyd Home. He was proud of the summer camps the Florence Boyd Home ran for underprivileged children and the help given to those in need through the nonprofit.

He was a charter member of the Pineola Moose Lodge, served as a Certified Emergency Medical Technician, was a member of the Linville Lodge #489 and a Shriner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Brother: Dave Hughes; two Sisters: Grace Daniels, Marian Garland; and Grandson: David Lee Hughes.

Ralph Stedman "Ted" Hughes, 82, of Tega Cay, SC, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, at the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was born on July 15, 1937, in Avery County to the late Columbus Henry and Bertha Boone Hughes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his First wife: Shelby Jean Hughes; one Son: Mark Henry Hughes; two Brothers: Dwight David Hughes and James Frank Hughes; and two Sisters: Graces Daniels and Marian Garland.

Ted was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. After leaving the Army he worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Mimosa Hills in Morganton, NC and then went on to become the Assistant Greens Superintendent at the Grandfather Golf Country Club before becoming the Greens Superintendent in Tega Cay, SC for over 20 years. He later went on to work in the recycling industry. Ted attended Bible Baptist in Fort Mill, SC. He was well known as the "Old Golf Pro" AKA "THE GOAT." Ted was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family making wonderful memories that they will cherish. He also enjoyed making good liquor and playing golf at Tega Cay Golf Club.

Mrs. Frances S. Harvey, age 86, of 14863 Prestige Drive, Woodbridge, Va., formerly of Hillrise Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Harvey was a native of Washington County and had lived most of her life in Carter County. She had lived the last eight years in Woodbridge, Va.
Mrs. Harvey was the daughter of the late Warner and Katherine Heaton Shell.

She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Mrs. Harvey was the Executive Secretary for the local Selective Service Board and retired from the Administrative Board of the Selective
Service of Tennessee.
She is preceded in death by her husband, G.A. "Red" Harvey, 1975; one sister, Ruth Laurain, and one brother, Cecil Shell.

David Erby Shell, 83, husband of Joyce Glover Shell, of 1045 Westmoreland Drive, died Friday, February 28, 2014, at Augusta Health, Fishersville.

He was born September 2, 1930, in Elizabethton, TN, a son of the late Warner and Katherine (Heaton) Shell.

Mr. Shell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War.

He received a B.S. Degree from East Tennessee State College and a M.A. Degree from East Tennessee State University.

He taught school in Carter County, Tennessee for three years, Bath County for two years, Augusta County for four years, and twenty-one years in Staunton at Lee High School, John Lewis Junior High, and Shelburne Middle School.

He was a member of Staunton Church of the Brethren, Masonic Elizabethton Lodge, and Staunton Elks.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Rebecca Shell and Michael Warner Shell, all of Staunton; a step-grandchild, Olivia Perry; a sister, Phyllis Shell Reed of Jonesboro, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Warner, Jr. and three sisters, Helen Martin, Francis Harvey, and Ruth Laurain.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Staunton Church of the Brethren by Pastor Scott Duffy.

ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Bill Jenkins, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Elizabethton, TN he was the son of the late Roscoe and Eliza Forbes Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins retired in 1982 after more than twenty years from the Elizabethton Star newspaper. He loved sports and writing sports columns for the Elizabethton Star. He was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Jenkins was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He fought in every major campaign in the European Theatre and was a Purple Heart recipient.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Flora Hall Jenkins and his twin brother, Henry Jenkins. Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Billy Jenkins, Elizabethton; a daughter, Nancy Ann Chandler and husband Kenneth, Jacksonville, FL; a grandson, Chance Chandler, Jacksonville, FL; an aunt, Gladys Snyder, Jonesborough, TN; a nephew, Hank Jenkins and wife Donna, Elizabethton; a niece, Elaine Stout, Johnson City, TN; great-nephews, Scott Stout, Greenville, SC; Brian Stout, Johnson City, TN; Andy Jenkins, Elk Mills; Randall Jenkins and wife Kim; Daniel Jenkins and Kyle Jenkins, all of Elizabethton. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services at 10:15 A.M. on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

ELIZABETHTON - Harold Dean Boone, age 74, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went to be with his Lord on June 22, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.


'Dean', as he liked to be called, was born at home in Roan Mountain to the late Oran and Martha Greer Boone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Boone, wife, Ramona Smith Boone, and granddaughter, Sierra Rollins. Dean was a 1963 graduate of Cloudland High School and a member of his beloved Hunter Methodist Church. He retired after 43 years as a printer (Kingsport Press, Inove Graphics, and Arcata Graphics). He had an infectious smile, loved a cold Sprite from Sonics, known for looking spiffy and being a momma's boy, and loved country cooking. In his spare time, he was passionate about tinkering with old cars, camping, woodworking, hunting, and wine making.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted companion Judy Boone Orr, and five children: a daughter, Donna Pearce Harrell (Jim); a daughter, Theresia Boone Cannon (Tim); a son, Kyle Daniel Boone (Norma Livingston); a daughter, Robyn Boone Moore (Calvin Hyder); and daughter, Rebecca Boone Rollins (Michael); 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Boone (Mary); a brother, Jim Boone (Johnnie); a sister, Ann Teter; a sister, Grace Canter (Red); a sister, Charlotte Julian (Bud); and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service to celebrate and honor the life of Harold Dean Boone will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Pastor LeAnn Crandall and Associate Pastor Mike Berry will be officiating. Music will be provided by Hunter and Sally Berry. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday or at his residence at other times.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Greer Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Jim Harrell, Tim Cannon, Nathan Boone, Matthew Cannon, Robby Holly, John Canter and Alan Tisdale. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mike Shouse, Dewey Oliver, Bobby Bullock, Calvin Hyder, Clint Bowers, and Men of the Carter County United Methodist parish.

Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, to go in procession.

A special thank you to recognize his primary physician Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Dr. Daniel Barocas of Vanderbilt, Dr. Devapiran Jaishankar of ETSU and staff, and especially Judy and Victor Deloach and employees and staff of Ivy Hall's B' wing for the dignity and respect they gave while treating and caring for our beloved father.
