    Albert G. Williams, age 97, of Elizabethton passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Albert was born in Elizabethton to the late William Grant and Margaret Kathryn Crow Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Geneva Hart Williams; his second wife, Wilma Adams Williams; a brother, Earl Williams; and his special friends, Wayne Hicks, Joe Rominger and Bill Roten.

    Albert had worked as an automotive machinist and was a member of Southern Baptist Church in Gray. Albert was a United States Army veteran, having joined in 1941 and was deployed to active duty in 1942. He served at Aleutian Island in Dutch Harbour, Alaska in the vehicle maintenance division and attained the rank of SPC4 before returning home in 1945, following the surrender of Japan. He was quoted as saying about an instance while on active duty, "I had 5 or 6 men with me. I had one wrecker, put a man in each vehicle and pulled them all at one time, to a scrapyard eight miles away, on a morning that is was 38 degrees below zero."

    Albert was a member of Capt. Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post 2166, a member of the NRA, the American Legion Post 49 and past president of the CB Club. He donated to the DAV and was a huge NasCar fan, having helped build Herman Beam's car in 1960.

    Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Neil McNaughton, of Ball Ground, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, William D. "Billy" and Sandra Williams, of Morristown, TN; two step sons, Dave Adams and wife Sandy, of Gray, TN and Dennis Adams and wife Connie, of Nashville, TN; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and many close friends and neighbors.

    A gathering of remembrance for Mr. Albert G. Williams will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the chapel, prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

    Albert married Geneva M. Hart about 1940 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Geneva (daughter of William F. Hart and Ida Melissa Jones) was born about 1922 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died about 1970 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.
