Joyce Carolyn Bullard, age 82, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at her home. Joyce was born on March 10, 1939 in Johnson County, TN; to the late Joe Stanley Atwood and Emma Carolyn Morgan Atwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Bullard, seven siblings and their spouses, and sister in law Edith Atwood.

Joyce was a wonderful woman who dearly loved her family. She really loved her faithful dog Cayde. She was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening in her spare time. She was born in Old Butler, lived in Ohio and Texas and then moved back to Tennessee.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Bobbie Bullard, step-sons Steven Bullard and James Bullard, brother, Ed Atwood, step-grandchildren, Morgan Bullard and Haley Bullard, and step great grandchild Bellamy Bullard, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service will be held.

JOHNSON CITY - John Russell Perkins, Johnson City a minister of the gospel, went home on April 14th at the age of 86. His loving spirit left this earth while being cared for at his home by his dedicated and selfless wife, Gail. He was a resident of Carter County. John was born on October 28, 1935 in Johnson County to Clint and Pearl Atwood Perkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Pearl Perkins, a brother Clint Jr. Perkins, and a sister Peggy Emmert. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gail Burchfield Perkins, and his four children: Donna Webb and husband Steve, Debra Scalf and husband Larry, John D. Perkins and wife Jenny, and Judith Lewis; 14 grandchildren: Michael Johnson,
Nathan Webb, Clint Webb, Bree Rhea, Sable Long, Dillon Hoyle, Legend Scalf, Keet Scalf, Jordan Carder, Jessi Norman, John D. “Trey” Perkins Jr., Jillian Perkins, William “Kyler” Lewis, and MaKenna Lewis; 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
John was ordained in 1967 and served the Lord at a multitude of churches in the region for 50 years before retiring in 2015. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1975. He had numerous certifications and served in various positions during his career in the ministry. He was a chaplain at the James H. Quillen VA in for eight years. He was a farmer at heart and lived his life according to the Farmer’s Creed: “....I believe my life will be measured ultimately by what I have done for my fellowman, and by this standard I fear no judgment. I believe that when a man comes to the end and sums up his days, he should be able to stand tall, and feel pride in the life he has lived. I believe that my God, and my work makes all this possible.” He earned the recognition of Farmer of the Year. John took pride in the fact he related so well to those in his congregations due to the diversity of his work history and strong work ethic.
The family will have a private celebration of life to honor him at Memorial Funeral Home and Pastor Perkins will be laid to rest at Happy Valley Memorial Park.The grandsons will be pallbearers.

Robert Stanley Atwood, 73, passed away on March 22, 2021 while traveling in Costa Rica. Robert was born on September 7, 1947 in Butler, TN to George Atwood and Anna Ruth (Cable). He was an Army veteran that served in Vietnam. After serving in the army, he settled in Warsaw, OH and worked as a boilermaker for more than 30 years. After retiring, he settled in Hobe Sound, FL to enjoy the sun and sea. His greatest pleasures were spending time with family and friends, sharing his knowledge and expertise, and traveling the world. Robert was a kind person, who never turned down a friend in need.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Ruth (Cable), and his sister Brenda Curbey. He is survived by his children, Anthony (Danielle) and Jonathan (Natividad), wife Georgeta, his brother William Fred (Naneth), George Atwood, his two sisters Patricia Tester (Doyle), Elizabeth Wallace (Terry), Laura Baker, two stepchildren, Dana Hall and Horia Paun and many nieces and nephews, as well as a special longtime friends, Gill and Karen. He was the cherished grandfather of Drake, Dezlynn, Tony and Darian Atwood. Pallbearers are Denny Jester, Benjamin Atwood, Terry Wallace, and John Gordon.

A graveside service with full military honors will take place on Saturday, April 3rd, 2021 at Sugar Grove Church Cemetery Butler, TN.

Brenda Sue Atwood Curbey, 60, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born February 21, 1958 in Elizabethton to the late George and Anna Ruth Cable Atwood. She had lived in Butler for several years before moving to Elizabethton.
Brenda was a 1975 graduate of Johnson County High School. She was a homemaker and in earlier years she was employed at Pizza Inn. She was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Layla Trivette and husband Doug and Lana Curbey, all of Hampton; two grandchildren, Alyiah Trivette and Kaylee Graybeal; three sisters, Patricia Tester and husband Doyle and Elizabeth Wallace and husband Terry, all of Butler, and Lora Lee Baker of Kentucky; three brothers, Robert Atwood and wife Georgeta Paun of Florida, Freddie Atwood and wife Naneth of Elizabethton, and George Atwood of Ohio; several nieces and nephews; the father of her children, Jeff Curbey; and a special friend, Charles Julian.
Funeral services for Brenda Sue Atwood Curbey will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Morefield officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Butler. Active pallbearers will be Charles Julian, Terry Wallace, Larry Tester, Doyle Tester, Jeff Curbey and Doug Trivette.
