    Notes:

    Paul W. Burleson, 92, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at his residence.
    A native of Spruce Pine, N.C., he was a son of the late Robert Burleson and Ida Ollis Burleson Minton. He had lived most of his life in Carter County.
    Paul was retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 48 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Gallon Pin Program of the American Red Cross. Paul attended Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Guy and Johnny Burleson; a sister, Cora Burleson; and two grandsons, Dennis and Mark Matherly.
    Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Mary Townsend Burleson; his children, Madeline Matherly and husband Carroll, Johnson City, Paulette Ashby and husband Bernard, Princeton, W.Va., Ginger Burleson, Trish Hughes and Tammy Moore and husband Mike, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Phipps, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Carl Hatley.
    Funeral services for Paul W. Burleson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Fowler and Pastor Justin Deaton officiating. Music will be provided by Tammy and Greg Ruston. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members and former members of the Carter County Rescue Squad, his church family, former employees of North American Rayon Corporation, family, friends and neighbors.
