    Mrs. Zona Carpenter Shook, 70, of Rt. 3, Newland, died Saturday in a Johnson City, Tenn., hospital after a short illness. Surviving are the husband, Herman Shook; three sons, Leo Prather of Phoenix, Ariz., Lacy Prather and Tommy Shook of Newland; an adopted son, Carrol Stamey of Newland; three brothers, Dellie, Thurman, and Robert Carpenter of Newland; two sisters, Mrs. Tempie Ingram and Mrs. Harold Benfield of Newland; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
    Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Big Meadows Baptist Church. The Revs. James Barrier and Carson Eggers officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Nephews of the deceased were pallbearers.

    Lilly Elizabeth Trivett, 91 of Newland, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at her home.

    She was born on April 19, 1926, in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of Harrison and Donna Isaacs Vance.

    She was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed flower gardening and canning. Her favorite radio program was the "Swap Shop."

    Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Lee Roger Trivett.

    Lilly leaves behind to cherish her memory her: Daughter: Sylvia (Hugh) Hubble of Jonas Ridge, NC; Sons: Charles (Brenda) Trivett of Plumtree, NC, Bill (Lisa) Trivett of Plumtree, NC; six Grandchildren and eight Great-Grandchildren.

    Her beloved pet, Sadie, was her faithful companion who never left her side.

    Services for Lilly Elizabeth Trivett will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2017, from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

    The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Daniels Cemetery.

He was a veteran of the United States Army (Korea) and was a member of the DAV. He was a member of Big Meadows Baptist Church where he was a former deacon for over 25 years. He was survived by his wife of 53 years, Georgie Lee Vance Prather (married on January 30, 1954); daughter, Janet Denise Parker, daughter, Ella "Nikki" Nichole and her husband, Freddie Carpenter; son, Bradley Milton Prater and his wife, Janice; brother, William Leo Prather and his wife, Wanda; grandchildren, Charity Michelle Moses and her husband, Scottie, Alisha Dawn Prather, Felece Danielle Prather, Chelsea Renee Carpenter; great-grandson, Nicholas Scott Moses; and an extended family of relatives and friends. His funeral was held August 9, 2007, at Big Meadows Baptist Church with The Revs. Joshua Calvert, Bill McGuire and Harry Lee Turbyfill officiating. He was retired from Great Lakes Carbon in Morganton, NC.

    She was born on June 23, 1949, in Mitchell County, NC, a daughter of the late Roger Trivett and Lily Vance Trivett.

    She was preceded in death by her Parents; her first husband: Sylvester "Roger" Clark; and her beloved pet, Chico.

    Sylvia was a volunteer for Linville Central Rescue Squad for many years. She also enjoyed all of her animals, needlepoint, flowers, gardening and woodworking. She was very artistic and she enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed to listen to Southern Gospel music.

    Sylvia leaves behind to cherish her memory her Husband: Hugh Hubble of Jonas Ridge, NC; Two Daughters: Elizabeth "Doodle" Wiseman of Marion, NC, and Michele Niehenke of Hunker, Pa.; Four Sons: Lee Clark of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Mark (Patti) Clark of Jonas Ridge, NC, Hugh (Amy) Hubble II of Jeanette, Pa., and Kenneth Hubble of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; Grandchildren: Sara, Lillie, and Scott Wiseman, Ashley Clark, Sarah and Nathan Niehenke, Shannon, Alex, Kenneth Jr., and Duncan Hubble; Two Brothers: Bill (Lisa) Trivett of Plumtree, NC, Charles (Brenda) Trivette of Plumtree, NC; and several nieces and nephews that she loved and to whom she was a second mother to.

    Funeral Services for Sylvia Trivett Hubble will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with John Beach officiating.

    The family will receive friends beginning at 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

    Interment will be in the Daniels Cemetery following the funeral service on Tuesday May 22, 2018.

    The family would like to express a special thanks to the Jonas Ridge EMS and the ICU Nurses at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
