    Burley H. Shoun, 56, of Mountain City, Route 3, was killed instantly Thursday at 1:45 p.m. in a tractor and truck accident on Highway 67 near his home. He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Walter G. and Victoria Cole Shoun. Mr. Shoun was a farmer and dairyman and was actively engaged in the farm and dairy programs of Johnson County; he was a former member of the Johnson County Court; member of Taylorsville Lodge 243, F&AM; member, deacon and the treasurer of Bethany Baptist Church. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Mildred Morley Shoun, Mountain City; two sons, Burley Joe Shoun, Lenoir, N.C. and Peter William Shoun, Mountain City; one daughter, Mrs. James L. Patterson of Johnson City; two brothers, H. Maine Shoun, Boise, Idaho and C. Otis Shoun, Cashmere, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted from Bethany Baptist Church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dean Smith, Rev. Earl Campbell and Rev. James L. Patterson officiating. Burial was in Shoun cemetery. Lodge No. 243, F&AM was in charge of graveside services. Deacons of Bethany Baptist Church, and Ben Dillon, James and Harold Valentine and Richard Hart were pallbearers. In lieu of flowers it was requested that donations be made to Bethany Baptist Church building fund. Lewis Gentry in charge.

    Burley married Mildred Katharine Morley on 20 Aug 1930 in Sullivan County, , , Tennessee. Mildred was born on 20 Jan 1911 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 23 Feb 2001 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Burley Shoun Cemetery, , Johnson County, Tennessee.     JOHNSON CITY - Bonnie Beatrice Shoun Patterson, age 84, of Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

    She was the daughter of the late Burley Herbert and Mildred Katherine Morley Shoun. Bonnie was a native of Mountain City, TN and moved to Johnson City to attend ETSU where she met the love of her life, James "Jimmy" Patterson. They were married in March of 1953 and were steadfast partners for over 60 years.

    Bonnie spent her earlier years raising her three sons and enjoying and supporting them in their many sport activities, rarely missing a game. As her children grew older she utilized her Bachelor's Degree to work as an Administrative Assistant at University High for many years. She was loved by all associated with University High and she stayed in touch with many UH alumni and faculty/staff.

    Bonnie was very talented and creative using her skills to sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch, and quilt just to name a few. So many benefited from her skills including her family, church family, and community. Bonnie enjoyed spreading her love by crocheting bonnets and blankets for newborn infants. She was also a wonderful cook, and known for "Miss Bonnie's Tea Room". Bonnie had a love for all, especially children, and treated all as if she were their "adopted" grandmother.

    She was an active member of Cherokee United Methodist Church and Cokesbury Church of Johnson City for many years, where her service and dedication were demonstrated in many ways. She served on numerous committees, was an active member of the choir, and coordinated fundraising activities. Her creative talents were evident in decorations she made for church functions, family weddings/births, and others lucky enough to receive them.

    In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, James Lyman Patterson; granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Patterson; brother, Burley Joe Shoun; half-brothers, Jim Valentine and Harold Valentine; half sister, Betty Valentine; several aunts and uncles.

    Survivors include three sons, James Herbert Patterson and wife Beth, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Patrick Lee Patterson and wife Debbie, Johnson City, William David Patterson and wife Sandra, Keystone Heights, Florida; Brother, Peter William Shoun and wife, Mary, Johnson City, Sister-in-law, Carol Shoun Holler, Lenoir, North Carolina; grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Patterson, Matthew David Patterson, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Cristin Marie Patterson St. John and husband Samuel, Nathaniel Lee Patterson, Johnson City, and Shane Douglas Lancaster, Keystone Heights, Florida; great grandchild, Kaydance Lancaster, Keystone Heights, Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The celebration of life service for Bonnie will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, January 20, 2018 in the sanctuary of Cokesbury Church, 110 Mary Street, Johnson City officiated by Rev. David Woody. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:15 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cokesbury Church Johnson City, TN 37615 or your favorite charity.

    A private burial service will be held at Burley H. Shoun Cemetery in Mountain City, Tennessee.
