Ruth Eller Clarke, age 99, of Appalachian Christian Village died Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Appalachian Christian Village following an extended illness.

A native of Johnson County, TN, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Eliza Eller.

Mrs. Clarke was a member of Berea Free Will Baptist Church and was a school teacher at Stratton School. She received her master’s degree from ETSU in 1950. Mrs. Clarke was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewel Clarke in 1946; one sister, Olive Humphreys; four brothers, Bruce, Fred, Howard, and Ray Eller. Survivors include two sisters; Kate Eller Shupe, Mountain City, TN, and Maurene Eller Robinson, Wilmington, DE; one brother and sister in-law Jack and June Eller, Johnson City, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Clarke will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 20th in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Stout officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Friends may call at the residence of a brother, Jack Eller, 127 Ridgelane Dr., Johnson City, at anytime.

The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active Pallbearers will be Jack Eller, Kevin Eller, Dawn Shupe, Richard Shupe, Tom Milhorn and Robby Eller. A native of Johnson County, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Eliza Eller. Mrs. Shupe worked as a nurse for many years with Dr. Glenn, Dr. Tullidge and Dr. Tarr. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mountain City, for over 75 years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shupe was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Aubrey Shupe, who passed away in 1999; two sisters, Olive Humphreys and Ruth Clarke; four brothers, Bruce, Fred, Howard and Ray Eller.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Shupe and wife Rebecca of Lenoir, TN and Dick Shupe and wife Thelma of Forest, VA; grandchildren, Rick Shupe and wife Wendy and Susan Davidson and husband Doug, all of Forest, VA; step granddaughter, Nicole Jones, of Greenville, TN; five great grandchildren, Alyssa and Savannah Shupe, Benjamin, Matthew and Lauren Davidson; one sister, Maurene Eller Robinson of Johnson City, TN; one brother, Jack Eller and wife June of Johnson City, TN; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Pauline Dancy of Mountain City, TN and Mrs. Shirley Ward of Winston-Salem, NC; several nieces and nephews and Mrs. Goldie Reece, who was Mrs. Shupe's faithful caretaker and friend for the last five years along with Goldie's granddaughter, Lilly Mae, who was a bright spot in Kate's life.

Virginia married Charles Aubrey Shupe about 1936. Charles (son of Charles O. Shupe and Mary Ethel Lowe) was born on 5 Feb 1912 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 4 Mar 1999 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Phillippi Cemetery, Highway 421, Johnson County, Tennessee. Maurene Eller Robinson, age 96, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a native of Johnson County and the daughter of the late Jesse Franklin and Eliza Patrick Eller. Along with her parents, Maurene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Robinson; brothers, Bruce, Fred, Howard, Ray, and infant brother Frank Eller; sisters, Ruth Clarke, Olive Humphreys, and Kate Shupe.

Mrs. Robinson spent most of her adult life in Wilmington, Delaware where she was a bookkeeper for a large construction company. She moved back to Tennessee ten years ago. She lived in Johnson City for five years and five years at Governors Bend in Erwin.

Maurene is survived by one brother, Jack C. Eller and wife June, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Mrs. Robinson will be conducted Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. in Roselawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Greg Salyer officiating.

JOHNSON CITY - Jack C. “Papaw” Eller, 95, of Johnson City, TN went to meet his Lord and Savior on May 28, 2023. He was born October 1, 1927, in Johnson County, TN, the youngest son of the late Jesse Franklin and Eliza Patrick Eller.

In 1947, his family moved from Johnson County to Carter County where he met his one true love, June Sanders. They married on June 16, 1950, and were married over 72 years at the time of his passing.

Papaw was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Japan during the Korean Conflict.

He retired as Johnson City distribution plant manager of Pet Dairy in 1992 after 28 years of service. Papaw Jack began his work there as a home service delivery milk man where his honesty, integrity and friendship earned him the trust of his many loyal customers, some of whom gave him keys to there home so he could put their milk in the refrigerator.

Papaw was a dedicated Christian and a member of Southwestern Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Homer Price Sunday School class and served as a past Deacon at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He also served on the Board of Directors of West Carter County Fire Dept. for several years.

Papaw Jack was a loving, caring and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend. Two of his greatest assets were his work ethic and his understanding of what he called “CS", (common sense).

Before retiring he helped a great deal with the care of his parents.

In addition, he and Mamaw also cared for his mother-in-law who lived in their home until her passing.

After retiring, his biggest pleasure was caring for his lawn and his garden. Papaw grew a great deal of vegetables, especially tomatoes and loved to share them with his friends and neighbors.

He and Mamaw also spent countless hours caring for three of his older sisters and an older brother in their later years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all his siblings, sisters, Ruth Clarke, Olive Humphreys, Kate Shupe, and Maurene Robinson; brothers, Bruce, Fred, Howard, Ray and infant brother, Frank Eller.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 72 years 11 ½ months, June Sanders Eller; son, Kevin Eller (Suzanne); grandson, Corben Eller; granddaughter, Hannah Smith (Austin); and great-granddaughter, Molly Paige Smith as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his special friends, Ted Hughes and Ed Hughes.

The family would like to give special thanks for the love and kindness shown by his in-home caregivers, Ginny McGhee, Dee Steeves and Betty Malone along with Meghan Long, FNP and the home care staff of State of Franklin Healthcare as well as the staff of Amedisys Hospice.

A Graveside Service will be officiated by Pastor Greg Salyer at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home TN Friday, June 2, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Military Honors will be conducted by The American Legion Hammond Post #3/265. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Eller, Austin Smith, Ted Hughes, Ed Hughes, Jim Miller, Glenn Davidson, Donald Shupe, and Richard Shupe.

Mountain City – Isaac Eller, age 78, of 891 Shingle Town Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on October 19, 2017, at the residence. He was born May 30th, 1939 in Johnson County, TN to the late Bruce and Grace Allen Eller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Eastridge, as well as his son, Travis Eller.

He is survived by his son, Gregg Eller, Mountain City, TN a daughter Lisa Eller, Mountain City, TN and grandchildren Kevin and David Eller. Military grave side services for Mr. Eller will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 26th, from the Wesley Chapel Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
