Carl Blevins, 89, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Elizabethton, Tenn., he was the son of the late Frank and Pearl Byrd Blevins.
Mr. Blevins was retired as a carpenter. He attended Hopson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed doing yard work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Iva Lee Blevins, and his brothers, Kenneth Blevins, William "Bill" Blevins and Leonard Blevins.
Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Junior Blevins and his wife Deszmer; a grandson, Travis Blevins; four sisters, Pauline Brown, Georgia Tolley, Frances Hollands and Arlene Guinn; three step-grandchildren, Amanda Vance and husband David, Jana Lethcoe and husband Travis, and Noah Cole and wife Macey; and five step-great-grandchildren, Andrew Vance, Olivia, Blakeley, Tristin and Nola Cole, all of Elizabethton.
A service to honor the life of Carl Blevins will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 11, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Jimmy Holtsclaw and Rev. Charlie Trivette officiating. Music will be under the direction of Scott Whitson, Sean Smith and Kevin Lester. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral service, or at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 12, in the Dotson Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Jackie Triplett, Bunn Potter, Sam Potter, Billy Brown, Travis Blevins and Noah Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Royer, Bill Street, Bud Smith, David Heaton, Kevin Lester and Kenny Blevins.

Georgia Ray Tolley, 75, loving mother and grandmother, entered into eternal rest with our Lord on Tuesday, August 11, 2021, peacefully at her home in the Fairview Community of Hampton, Tenn.
Growing up as a child in the Tiger Creek Community, Georgia was the daughter of Frank and Pearl Caroline Byrd Blevins. She married the love of her life, Cecil, at the age of 16, and they moved to the Simerly Creek Community of Fairview. The couple was married 54 years and parents to five children.
Georgia was of the Freewill Baptist Faith, a homemaker and caregiver. She loved to farm, garden and quilt, grow crops of tobacco/flowers and care for her many animals over the decades such as dogs/cats, chickens, goats, and doves. Many a family member or neighborhood friend was welcome to eat a meal, tell a story or drink a cup of coffee, especially during the holidays. She never met a stranger and always wanted to make people laugh.
In her later years, she was an avid collector of Cabbage Patch dolls and enjoyed making them new again for “Granny’s Cabbage Patch Garden.” She cared for her ailing husband for more than 20 years and her youngest granddaughter Courtney with whom she shared a special bond.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Cecil in 2016, her much loved dog “Bubba” and her granddaughter Victoria Faith McQueen.
Georgia is survived by the couple’s children, Betty and Jobe Tolley, Kitty (Marshall Simerly) Tolley, son Cecil Wayne Tolley, all of Hampton, and daughters Shelby and David McQueen and Annie and Danny McQueen of Elizabethton; her granddaughters, Danielle (Bobby Furches) and Abigail Bates, Alexandria McQueen (Logan) Craft, Katarina McQueen (David) Finney and Izabella Sue Davida McQueen, Courtney Tolley, and a grandson Jobe Tolley “JT”, as well as her great-grandchildren, Elana and Joshua Furches, Lucas Bates and Nathan Peters. Special friends/family, Mabel Tolley, Brenda Tipton, Junior Blevins, Norman Coffey, Freddie Jack Davis, and Landon Lingerfelt, her first son-in-law, with whom she shared many a cup of Nescafe coffee and a joke with, survive along with extended siblings and family members.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, August 14, at 11 a.m. at the Tolley-Cornett Cemetery in the Fairview Community located off Whittemore Road. The Rev. Shane Whittemore will officiate with some of Georgia’s favorite songs of “I’ll Fly Away,” “Gathering Flowers For The Master’s Bouquet,” and “Life’s Railway to Heaven” being played. The family requests that anyone attending the service please wear a mask. Pallbearers will be Danny McQueen, David McQueen, Logan Craft, David Finney, Robert Potter, Bobby Furches and Landon Lingerfelt.

Leafie Annalee Payne, 85, Rittertown Road, Hampton, died Monday, July 18,2005, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

Mrs. Payne was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Charlie and Lockie Evelyn Hilman Tolley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Doax Street, her second husband, Danford Payne,
and three brothers, Julius, Mack and Paul Tolley.

Mrs. Payne was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 40
years of service. She was a faithful member of Little Doe Free Will Baptist
Church.

at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sam Ferguson, Rev. Shane Waters and Rev.

Darlie C. Hyder, 85, Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in the Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie & Lockie Hilman Tolley. She was a retired employee of Texas Instruments after 18 years of service, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church.

She loved to garden, read and work in her flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Hyder; two sisters: Leafie Payne, Alpha Tipton; and three brothers: Mack, Julius, Paul Tolley.

Survivors include her daughter: Sandra Forbes and fiancé, Jimmy Stevens; Her sisters & brothers who she dearly loved: Shirl Davis, Geneva Roberts, of Hampton, and Mahala Hampton, of Alabama; Three Brothers: Wade Tolley and wife, Linda, Herman Tolley and wife, Shonette, and Jack Tolley, all of Hampton; Several nieces & nephews; A Sister-in-law: EllaJay Tolley; Her extended special family, The Hyder Family; Her special friends: Bob & Nancy Fillers, George & Brenda Roberson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sam Ferguson officiating.

HAMPTON - Jack Tolley, 90, Hampton, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born October 17, 1931 in Carter County to the late Charlie & Lockie Hilman Tolley. Jack was a graduate of Hampton High School, East Tennessee State College and the University of Tennessee with a Masters Degree in Education. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a teacher and coach at Cloudland High School, a Counselor at Cloudland High School and served as Principal at Cloudland High School and was a Supervisor of Special Education in Carter County making a total of 45 years in the education field. He loved farming, gardening and loved people and outdoors. Jack was a member of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Sammie Whitehead Tolley, a granddaughter: Rachel Clawson, four brothers: Paul, Julius, Mack and Wade Tolley and three sisters: Leafie Street, Darla Hyder and Mahalie Hampton.

HAMPTON - Herman Tolley, 90, Hampton, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital surrounded by his loving family. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charlie & Lockie Hilmon Tolley. Herman was a graduate of Cloudland High School. He was a US Army Veteran and had also worked at Brown’s Supermarket in Hampton for many years. He was a Master Gardner and loved to give things out of the garden away. In earlier years he attended Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Shonette Cutlip Tolley who passed away July 24, 2016; by a granddaughter: Amber Shaw Calhoun; and also 10 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his children: Keith (Wendy Hill), Patty (Garry Smith), and Leon (Rebecca). His grandchildren: Tracy (Jeff) Guy, Mitchell (Maggie), R.J. and Ezra Tolley and Sarah Hill, His great-grandchildren: Lane and Timber Shaw and Jeffrey, River, and Rudy Guy, a loving sister: Shirl Davis and several nieces and nephews. He was blessed with more friends that can be named whom he loved dearly.

Mahala Tolley Hampton, 81, of Leesburg, Ala., passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015. She was born April 2, 1934 in Hampton, Tenn., to the late Charlie and Lockie Hilman Tolley. She had lived in Alabama for a number of years. Mrs. Hampton was a member of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Sgt. Mathey G. Cole and M.B. Hampton, and by three brothers and three sisters. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her son, Jeff Hampton, and her daughters, Jennifer Farrow, Jill Hampton and Joy Hampton. Local survivors include her sisters, Geneva Roberts and Shirl Davis, and three brothers, Jack, Herman and Wade Tolley. Also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive. Mahala raised two of her grandchildren as her own, Zachery and Abigail.

Vicie E. Hilman Birchfield, 89, Johnson City went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the residence of Otis & Patsy Griffey of Butler.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John & Biddie Hill Hilman of Roan Mountain.

She worked at Magnavox for 10 years and was a care giver for several years.

Mrs. Birchfield was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ray Birchfield, a son, Ronnie Birchfield, a grandson, Jerry Ray Birchfield and a special son-in-law: Perry Bradford.

Survivors include two daughters: Sue Bradford, Elizabethton and a special daughter & son-in-law: Patsy & Otis Griffey, Butler. Two Sons: J.D. Birchfield of the home and Jack & Deb Birchfield of Elizabethton. Her Grandchildren: Lori, Becky, Ronnie, Terry. Her Great Grandchildren: Brittany & Danielle Helmick, Seth Clawson, Libby Buchanan, Isabell & Joshua Ray. Her 5th Generation Great Great Great Granddaughter: Kenzie "Ray Ann Helmick "Red Bird". Two Wonderful men in her life, Dennis Helmick, Jr. and Travis Willens. Her special Cousins. Stanley & Mozella Whittington, Elizabethton, Phyllis Walker and Lou Calloway. ELIZABETHTON - Iva Lee Banks Malone, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at her residence.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Banks, Sr. & Bunia Blevins Banks. She was home health nurse. Iva Lee enjoyed working in her flowers, her dogs Charlie & Molly and loved to travel. She was a member of Rittertown Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Luther Caldwell, her second husband: Gleason Malone, Sr., her son: Gleason Malone, Jr., two sisters: Jeanette Webb and Georgia Phillips and two brothers: Jay Banks and Harvey Banks.

Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law: Ronnie & Judy Caldwell. Three Grandchildren: Bridgett Caldwell Simpson, Jackie Caldwell and David Church. Five Great Grandchildren and One Great Great Grandson. Two Brothers: Nelse Banks & Wife Trudy and Walter Banks, Jr..
