    Smith Glenn Storey, 94, of Elk Park NC, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2018, in his home

    Mr. Storey was born on Old Beech Mountain July 7, 1923, where he lived all of his life. He graduated from Cranberry High School, worked in the shipyards in Wilmington, NC as a welder, served in the Army 1290th Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Army XXI Corps, 3rd Army, and 15th Army XXIII Corps in France and Germany during WWII. He worked for 28 years for the U.S. Postal Service as rural mail carrier in Elk Park, NC until he retired. Mr. Storey had a small farm where he raised Angus beef cattle, apple trees, tobacco and honeybees.

    He was married to Wilma T. Storey on Nov. 27, 1952, for 66 years and a member of Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church.

    Mr. Storey is survived by his five children: Edward Glenn Storey and his wife, Nanette Storey, Darren Lee Storey, Marilyn Elizabeth Storey, William Smith Storey, and Andrew David Storey and his wife Jennifer Storey; his four grandchildren: Samuel Storey and Carla Shomaker, Jacob Storey and his wife, Nellie Storey, Ashley Anderson and Aidan Storey; great grandchildren: Eddie Storey and Brittney Storey; nieces and nephews and the rest of his relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard Martin Storey and Mary Trivette Storey; as well as his brothers and sisters: James Creston Storey, Lena H. Storey, Fairy Louisa Storey, Alma C. Range, and Hugh C. Storey, an infant brother: Harlie Storey; and his infant son: Phillip Carl Storey.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. The family of Smith G. Storey wishes to thank Caldwell Hospice staff and volunteers, friends of the Beech Mountain Community, and members of the Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church for all their help, support and prayers. And a special thank you to his granddaughter, Ashley Anderson, for her compassion, devotion and help in taking care of Mr. Storey.

    Friends were received from 6 tp 8 p.m. on July 2, 2018, at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home in Newland, NC. The funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on July 3, 2018, at Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Church and Rev. Garland Honeycutt will officiate the service.
