    Brad McQueen, 96, 841 Sink Valley Road, Butler, passed away On Saturday, January 31, 2009, at his residence.
    Brad was born in Johnson County, Tenn., on February 6, 1912 to the late Isaac Wade and Hattie Luvenia Stout McQueen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Taylor McQueen, a grandson, B.J. Snyder, and several brothers and sisters.
    Brad was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and carpentry work. He was a retired farmer.
    Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Perkins and husband Ron of Butler, one Kenneth Ray McQueen and girlfriend Leslie Hall and son Tyler of Butler; one sister, Hazel McQueen Johnson of Elizabethton; one brother, James T. McQueen of Sevierville, four grandchildren, Heather Johnson and husband Jason, Christy Reece and husband Bruce, Sara Perkins and Ryan Perkins; two great-grandchildren, Ally Reece and Bruce Reece Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Stephanie Barry.
    The funeral service for Mr. McQueen will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday, February 2, at Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Koch and Pastor Harvey White officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Perkins, Wade McQueen, Eric Matherly, Jim Bragg, Bruce Reece and Jason Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Clark, Jay Matherly, Theron Johnson, Jack Slemp, Tom Garland and Lloyd Dugger.

    ELIZABETHTON - Hazel M. Johnson, 102, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Signature HealthCARE Wellness and Rehab Center (formerly Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center). She was born on October 1, 1915 in Old Butler to the late Isaac Wade and Venie Stout McQueen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, , Mae McQueen, Maude McQueen Grant, Mildred Slemp, Ruby Sutphin and five brothers, Ivory S. McQueen Kyman McQueen, Paul McQueen, Bradford McQueen and James McQueen.

    Mrs. Johnson was a devoted daughter to her parents and a loving mother, who never stopped telling her son how to take care of his health. She always made a way to help family members and friends in need.

    Hazel was the ninth born of ten to Isaac Wade and Venie Stout McQueen. She worked hard alongside her parents and siblings on the family's farms throughout Old Butler.

    In her mid-twenties Hazel moved from the family home to Bristol, Tennessee where she met and married Master Sargent Harris Johnson in 1944. They had one son, Theron James Johnson who was born March 29, 1946. They later moved to Elizabethton, Tennessee where she was a homemaker. She loved gardening, crocheting, reading (while she was still able) and sewing. She received certification in Power Sewing Machine (Operator) from the Tennessee State Board of Vocational Education. She was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and attended Riverview Baptist Church.

    She was a simple women who put her trust in God. Throughout her life she always thought of others. In 1954 she uprooted her family to move to Maryland to stay with her niece, Yvonne, until Yvonne completed high school, after a fatal car crash took the lives of Yvonne's parents and brother. Hazel came back to her home in Elizabethton and continued to work hard raising her son and caring for her friends and neighbors.

    She became a grandmother for the first time in 1968 to a grandson, Jamie Lance Johnson and then to a second grandson in 1975, Jason Vance Johnson. In 2012 she became a great-grandmother to Elijah James Roger Johnson the son of Jason Johnson and then again in 2016 when Hannah Johnson was born.

    On the occasion of her 100th birthday, in October of 2015, she was honored with birthday wishes from President and Mrs. Barrack Obama, Governor Bill Haslam of Tennessee, and Leon Humphrey and the Carter County Commission. Even at the age of 100 she never missed the opportunity to share her knowledge on how to eat well and to live a long life.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Theron Johnson (Lise), of Elizabethton; two grandsons, Jamie Johnson (Kathy), of Gainesville, GA; Jason Johnson (Sarah) of Kingsport, TN; two step-grandchildren, Shawn Bright, of Jonesborough; Matthew Bright (Crystal), of Johnson City; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah Johnson, Katie Bright and Hannah Johnson.

    A service to honor the life of Mrs. Johnson will be conducted on Monday, November 6, 2017, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, of Elizabethton with Rev. Mark Grubb and Rev. Larry Shorter officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

    The committal and entombment service will be conducted following the funeral service in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    He served our country proudly and was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran, having served in World War II. He was in the Burma Theater of operations, flying war supplies from India over "The Hump" into China.
    He achieved the rank of captain and received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Two Oak Leaf Clusters for his war time service.

    During his pilot training Dr. McQueen met his wife Mary Brooklyn New York, who was a lieutenant in the Army Corp of Nursing.

    After his military service he received the degree of Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis and practiced in Sevierville from 1952 until his retirement in 1988.

    Dr. McQueen was an avid golfer and trout fisherman enjoying fishing not only in his native East Tennessee, but also in the western states and Canada.

    Kenneth Raye McQueen, 66, passed away on December 1, 2021 at his home. Kenneth was born on September 13, 1955 to the late Bradford and Lillie McQueen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Archie James Garland Jr. and Richard Lynn Garland, and nephew, B.J. Snyder.
    Kenny was a huge sports fan and always cheered for the Tennessee Vols. He loved joking around with people and always had a good time. He was always friendly to everyone he met and had never met a stranger. He was also a great and loving uncle.
    Those left to cherish his memories include his siblings, June Bagi, Gene Garland, Kathy Perkins; Tyler Hall and sons Alex and Jase, who he loved like his own son; fiancée, Leslie Hall; nieces, Heather Johnson and husband Jason, Christy Reece and husband Bruce, Ally Eller and husband Josh and son Jax; nephew, Bruce Reece Jr.; several other nieces and nephews in Florida and North Carolina; and his bestest bestest buddy, Charlie his dog.
    The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 3, at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Harvey White and Pastor John Hammett officiating. The graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 2708 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City. Pallbearers will be Gene Garland, Jason Johnson, Bruce Reece Sr., Bruce Reece Jr., Josh Eller and Tyler Hall. Special thanks to Kenny’s surgeons at UT Medical Center for all their care, compassion and support to Kenny, Dr. Stefanos Boukovalas and Lindsey and Dr. Andrew J. Russ.

    Dennis Wade Slemp, 59, of Butler, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday, November 22, 2018. Wade was born in San Jose, California on December 28, 1958, to the late James Wade and Bertha Martindale Slemp. Wade was also preceded in death by his sister Claudette Frost.

    Wade enjoyed drawing, painting, and doing needlework. Wade was an excellent student all through school and excelled in math. He especially enjoyed playing chess when he could find someone willing to play against him.

    Survivors include his step-mother, Kathryn Slemp, his daughter, Amber Greenwood, and husband Chris, of Cookeville, TN, a sister, Lori Potter, and husband Mike, of Watauga, TN, a brother, Michael Slemp, and wife Melissa, of Butler, TN, three grandchildren, Eliza, Ruby, and Livie Greenwood, several nieces and nephews, and his Uncle Jack Slimp who was so good come check on him.

    The family would like to express their gratitude and heartfelt "Thank You" to the staff at Mountain City Care Center for taking such good care of Wade for the last 20 years. Your love and compassion did not go unnoticed.

    The family received friends on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 12pm – 1pm in the Charlie B. Hux Memorial Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home. Following visitation, we went in procession for graveside services at Butler Memorial Cemetery, Butler, TN.
