    Rev. James A. Markland

    Rev. James Allen Markland, 72, 1820 E. Myrtle Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

    A native of Carter County, he had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Melvin and Jennie Nidiffer Markland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy Keith Markland, and a brother, Melvin Markland Jr. Rev. Markland was a member of the Freewill Baptist faith and had been a minister of the gospel for over 30 years. His last pastorate position was at True Faith Chapel in Elizabethton. He had also been a member of the Joyland Singers Quartet.

    Rev. Markland had served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also well known as Sky Hawk on the CB Radio; also known as Jim Allen on various radio stations. He had also worked at Empire Furniture and Trailways Bus Lines and had retired from City of Johnson City Transit System. Survivors include his wife, Ruby McKinney Markland; a stepdaughter, Debbie Thomas of Johnson City; a son, Lanny Markland of Johnson City; three daughters, Sherry Ann Lowe and Robin Bowers, both of Elizabethton, and Nancy Greer of Roan Mountain; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special grandson, Randy Thomas, who made his home with Papaw and Mamaw; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services for Rev. Markland will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. David Montgomery and Rev. Larry Dugger officiating. Music will be provided by the Montgomery Family. Entombment will follow the service.

    Robin Marie Markland Bowers, 61, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at her residence.
    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy Allen Markland and Loretta Taylor Morris and her step-father, Billy Jack Morris.
    Robin had been an employee of Wal-Mart for a number of years before being employed by the Carter County School System as a custodian at Unaka High School and Hunter Elementary School. She was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Markland.
    Survivors include her children, Renee Gladson and Jonathan Bowers and wife Chastity, all of Elizabethton, and Michelle Dotson, Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn Simerly, Morgan Simerly, Megan Simerly, Zayne Buckles, Avery Dotson, Kendall Dotson, Nick Bowers and Allston Harrison; the father of her children, Harold "Mutt" Bowers; her brother, Laney Markland; her sisters, Thelma "Pebbles" Blake and Sherry Ann Lowe; and several special nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services for Robin Marie Markland Bowers will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
