    Clarence W. Whitehead, 71, 608 Main Street, Hampton, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
    Mr. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Garfield and Ethel Lacey Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a son, Clarence W. Whitehead Jr., three brothers, Jack Whitehead, J.D. Whitehead and Eugene Whitehead, and a sister, Iva Lee Whitehead.
    Mr. Whitehead was of the Baptist faith and was owner/operator of Whitehead Greenhouse and a retired employee of Jarl Extrusions. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.
    Survivors include his wife, Ollie Carden Whitehead, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Gail and Leslie McCracken, Chuckey, and Wanda and Charles Gentry, Elizabethton; a son, Steven Douglas Whitehead, Johnson City; and three grandchildren, Andrew Daniel Whitehead, Elizabethton, Christina "C.C." McCracken and John Joseph "J.J." McCracken, both of Chuckey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Clarence W. Whitehead, 71, 608 Main Street, Hampton, who died Thursday, April 4, 2002, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Holly officiating. Interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors to be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Butch Johnson, Charles Gentry, Leslie McCracken, Andrew Whitehead, Dave Blackwell, Johnny Morgan and Otis Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends.

    Notes:

    This was the day, February 27th, 2018, that the Lord had made to take Steven Douglas Whitehead home to be with his family in Heaven.

    Steve went to bed on Monday night, February 26th and died peacefully during the night.

    Steven was born on May 31st, 1960, to Ollie Carden Whitehead and Clarence Walter Whitehead of Carter County. They were waiting at the River Jordan for him as was his brother Clarence Walter Whitehead, Jr. and his sister, Wanda Yvonne (Bonnie) Whitehead Ritchie Gentry. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Garfield and Ethel (Lacey) Whitehead and his maternal grandparents Laney James Carden and Alice (Teague) Carden. Many other uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends were there to receive him.

    He is survived by a sister Glenda Gail Whitehead McCracken formerly of Hampton, TN currently residing in Orfordville, WI; a brother-in law Leslie Lewis McCracken; niece Christina McCracken, Orfordville, WI; nephews John Joseph McCracken (Katie Jacoby) Madison, WI; Andrew Daniel Whitehead (Shanda Campbell); great-niece Kaila Zevon Whitehead of Johnson City, TN; a guardian nephew Jeffery Rutter, Oshkosh, WI; brother-in law Michael Charles Gentry of Siam as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

    Steven was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church. A graduate of Hampton High and ETSU, he was a professional cook all of his life, beginning his career at Gus's Greek Restaurant, Corpus Christi TX and working at CornerStone (Appalachian Christian Village) when he passed. He will be missed by many co-workers and friends.

    Visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday March 3 th 2018. A service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Michael Rich, Nathan Rankin, Arthur Kennedy, Danny Holden, Melvin Bentley and other family members and friends. Songs will be some of his favorite hymns and service by immediate family.
