Charles E. Weaver attempted to save Hezekiah Perry from burning, Johnson City, Tennessee, April 6, 1917. Perry, 33, laborer, was engaged in tearing down the brick lining of a blast furnace. A section of the lining under him fell, and he dropped 42 feet into the furnace upon hot bricks. A part of the lining left standing at the top was pulled eight inches out of line, but it did not fall. A long rope was lowered into the furnace from the top, and Weaver, 39, blast furnace foreman, with his hands descended it to Perry. The fire had been drawn from the furnace but four days, and the heat was intense. Weaver put one arm under one of Perry's arms, wrapped his legs around Perry's waist, locked his feet, grasped the rope with both hands, and was drawn to the top. Perry had been in the furnace about 6.5 minutes and Weaver about a minute and a half. Perry's skull was fractured, and he received third-degree burns on his head. He died of his injuries. Weaver's face was scorched, and his back was injured, but he recovered in 10 days.

Steve C. Glover, 81, Johnson City, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert James Glover and Blanche Mosier Glover. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by two brothers, Sidney and Frank Glover, three sisters, Mary Ruth, Elizabeth, and Thelma Ward.

Steve retired from Tennessee Eastman Company. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Steve was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, Johnson City.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Oakland Avenue Baptist Church 2823 E. Oakland Avenue Johnson City TN 37601 or to American Cancer Society 508 Princeton Road #102 Johnson City TN 37601.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Glover, his first wife and mother of his sons, Wanda Glover, two sons, Tim Glover and wife Deborah, and Mark Glover and wife Edna, all of Johnson City, three brothers, Gene, Clyde, and Kenneth Glover and wife Gerry, all of Johnson City, two sisters and their husbands, Norma Poarch (Tommy), of Gray, and Sharon Warren (James), of Covington, GA, two grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, one great granddaughter, one step-great grandson, several nieces and nephews.

Steve will be interred at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

Norma Jean Glover Poarch, 73, Johnson City, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Johnson City, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Blanche Mosier Glover. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poarch was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Ward, and two brothers, Sidney Glover and Steve Glover.
Mrs. Poarch was of the Baptist faith who always put the needs of her family before her own. She loved spending quality time with her only grandson, Brock. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping, and working out at the gym. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Tommy Poarch of the home; son, Brian Poarch and his girlfriend, Cindy of Wilmington, NC, and daughter, Lorrie Poarch Ferrell and her husband Daryl of Johnson City; grandson, Brock Ferrell; her three brothers, Kenneth Glover and his wife Gerry, Clyde Glover and Gene Glover all of Johnson City; one sister, Sharron Warren and her husband Jim of Covington, GA; and several nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends to share memories on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, Johnson City. The family requests the honor of your presence for a Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Poarch at 8:00PM in the Sunrise Chapel with Dr. Mark Herrod officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
