    Walter L. Neatherly, age 82 of Neva, died Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the home of a son, James R. Neatherly, Church Hill, after a short illness. He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Daniel and Sarah Fine Neatherly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Neatherly, Aug. 1962. He was a retired employee of Southern Railway, having worked there more than 50 years. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
    Survivors include two sons, Walter E. Neatherly, Chattanooga and James R. Neatherly, Church Hill; five daughters, Mrs. Christine Morefield, Neva, Mrs. Mable Gentry, Mountain City, Mrs. Marjorie Stump, Miami, Fla., Mrs. Mary Barker, Bristol, Tenn. and Mrs. Peggy Fleenor, Bristol, Va.; two brothers, Claude Neatherly, Cokeville, Wyo., and John Neatherly, Neva; one sister, Mrs. Fannie Stone, Robbinsville, N.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Ernest Caarrier[sic] and Rev. Tom Worley officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
    Pallbearers were R.L. Wilson; Roy Bartlett, Clate Tester, Robert Grindstaff, Dale Vaught and Earl Shull. Flower bearers were the ladies of the church and neighbors.
    Lewis Gentry in charge.

    Marjorie Stump, age 98, of 288 WE Neatherly Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011, after a brief illness in the Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center, 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee.

    Ms. Stump was the daughter of the late W.L. and Ellen Tester Neatherly. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a homemaker.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Paul Stump, in 1992; Two brothers, Earl Neatherly and James R. Neatherly; Two sisters, Christine E. Morefield and Mabel C. Gentry.

    She is survived by two sisters, Mary Barker, of Mountain City, Tennessee, and Peggy Fleenor, of Bristol, Virginia; four nieces; and one nephew.

    Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2011, in the East Side Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Dwayne Dickson officiating.

    The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the funeral service.

    Due to inclement weather there will not be a formal graveside service. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

    At other times friends may call at the home of Mary Barker, 240 WE Neatherly Road, Mountain City, Tennessee. A special "Thank You" from the family to the staff of Mountain City Care Center

    Marjorie married Paul Stump about 1933. Paul (son of William B. Stump and Nancy C.) was born about 1910 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; died about 1992 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    MOUNTAIN CITY - Mary J.(Neatherly) Barker, age 96, of Mountain City, TN, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. She was born December 14, 1920, in Johnson County TN to the late Walter Neatherly and Ellen Tester Neatherly. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert 'RJ' Barker, three sisters, Mable C. Gentry, Marjorie Stump and Christine E. Morefield, brothers, James Neatherly and Earl Neatherly.

    Mary graduated high school in Mendota, VA. She worked at Monroe Calculating Machines of Bristol, Virginia for 20 years until its closing. She was a housewife and loved being with her family and will be missed by all who knew her. Mary was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

    She is survived by one sister, Peggy Fleenor of Bristol, VA, four nieces; Linda Rhyne and Josephine Agrillo of Sebastian, FL; Donna Chavis of Columbia SC and Judy Housewright of Mt Carmel, TN, one nephew, Jack Morefield of Newbern, NC, good friends and neighbors Carolyn and Danny Eller.

    Funeral service for Mary will be Thursday April 13, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. from Mountain City Funeral Home with Preacher David Burton to officiate. Graveside service and burial will follow from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Grindstaff, Danny Grindstaff, Rick Moore and friends of the family. Honorary pallbearers are men of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
