    Notes:

    Mack Edward Clark, age 90, died peacefully March 11, 2010, at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee. He was born on February 19, 1920, to the late Lillie Jane Hyder Clark and William Madison Clark in Elizabethton, Tenn.

    He served in World War II as an Army Sergeant in Company D, 354th Infantry, 89th Infantry Division. For his involvement in the Rhineland Central European campaign, including the Battle of the Bulge, he received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars; Good Conduct Medal; American Theater Ribbon; American Defense Ribbon; and the World War II Victory Medal. He helped liberate Ohrdruf, a Buchenwald sub-camp, on April 4, 1945. Upon discharge for the Army, he worked for S.S. Jones in Johnson City where he completed an apprenticeship as a machinist. He then worked as a machinist for Unisys until he retired in 1983 as a supervisor.

    Mr. Clark was a member of Central Christian Church and the Loyal Berean Sunday School Class. He attended regularly until he became a shut-in. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clark was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas (Tom) Clark, Robert (Bud) Clark and Edgar (Eck) Clark; and three sisters, Annie Clark Little, Ossie Clark Heaton and June Clark Vandeventer.

    He is survived by his faithful caregiver and beloved wife of 68 years, Sarah Elizabeth Leonard Clark; two daughters, Karen Elaine Clark Salyer and husband David of Campobello, S.C., and Elizabeth Maxine Clark Sams and husband Charles of Bristol Tennessee; three grandchildren, Lisa Sams Abel and husband Larry of Bristol Tennessee, Edward Sams and wife Jackie of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kelly Salyer of Campobello, S.C.; one great-granddaughter, Maura Wilson Trice and husband Tim of Bristol Tennessee; one brother, James (Jim) Clark and wife Nettie of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Charles Bolick and his staff at Sapling Grove, EMS Response teams, MSICU nurses and staff of Wellmont Hospital, and especially the Wellmont Hospice House for their kindness and loving care of Mr. Clark. Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 14, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel with Minister Eugene Brockley and Minister Ross Dampier officiating.

    ELIZABETHTON - James Madison Clark, 84, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County he was a son of the late William M. and Lillie Jane Hyder Clark. He was a 1951 graduate of Happy Valley High School. Mr. Clark had worked as a maintenance electrician at the Budd Company and the National Casket Company. He was a member of the Local 2155 United Auto Workers Union, Benefits Representative of the Budd Company and President of the Union at the National Casket Company. Mr. Clark was a Member, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher of Big Spring Church of Christ. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

    Mr. Clark was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

    Survivors include: his sweet and loving wife of 59 years, G. Nettie Clark; children: Timothy James (Jamie) and wife Janice Clark, Mark Wayne Clark and friend Mary Mitchell, all of Elizabethton; Granddaughter, Jamie Lee Clark; special Brother-in-law, Sam Hamilton and wife Mable and Sister-in law, Virginia Nave; Several Nieces and Nephews.

    The family appreciates the excellent care given to him and his family by the VA Staff, ICU, Surgical Team and the ER Staff. Also a "Special Thank You" to Lisa Butler, Shirlene Odom, Wyatt Phipps and The Ladies of Big Spring Church of Christ.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Glen Layfield, minister officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Saturday are: Joel Clark, Robert Clark, Doug Vandeventer, Austin Oaks, Josh Foltz, Jeff Chambers, Johnny Butler and Kenny Little. Honorary Pallbearers are: Sam Hamilton, Lewis Heaton, Jack Clark, Albert Nave, Jack Chambers, Gene Grindstaff, Ronnie Little, Co-workers at the Bud Company, Chaplain Doug Dixon, Chaplain Lloyd Hicks, his Church Family and his friends and neighbors.

    BRISTOL - Elizabeth Maxine Clark Sams, 76, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at the Bristol Hospice House.

    She was born September 14, 1942 in Carter County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Mack and Elizabeth Clark. Maxine taught chemistry and physics for 30 years and retired from Bristol Virginia High School in 1999. She was a member of Central Christian Church and was very active until illness forced her to slow down. Maxine was involved with Meals on Wheels, Hospice House, Bristol Food Pantry and Youth Programs

    She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles N. Sams; daughter, Lisa Leonard and husband David; son, Ed Sams and wife Jackie; granddaughter, Maura Trice and husband Tim; great grandchildren, Eddie and Gabby Trice; sister, Karen Salyer and husband Dave; nieces, Elizabeth Bellamy and husband David, Kelly Medley and husband Cale, and Sandra Osterhaus and husband Tim; sister-in-law, Martha Sams; aunt, Nettie Clark; several cousins; and a host of friends.

    The funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Central Christian Church with Joel Faidley officiating. The family will receive friends 1 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. The committal service will follow at Shelby Hills Cemetery with Minister Mark Overton officiating. Pallbearers will be David Leonard, Tim Trice, Bobby Mosier, Dennis Holbrook, Mike Hodgson, Rob Feagins, Harold Campbell and John O'Dell.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Wellmont Oncology, Bristol Regional Medical Center ER, Johnson City Medical Center ICU, and especially the Bristol Hospice House.
