    Otis Sluder, age 97, of 540 Sluder Road, Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2005 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. A native of Ashe County, NC, he lived most of his life in Shady Valley. Otis was a son of the late Amos L. and Abigail Greer Sluder and was a farmer and carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Victory Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Sluder and several sisters and brothers. Suviving are his wife of 69 years, Letha Sluder, five sons: Herbert Sluder and wife Betty of Winchester, VA, Alton Sluder and wife Shirley, Cline Sluder and wife Cathy, Curtis Sluder and Wife, Linda and Kenneth Sluder and wife Eula, all of Shady Valley; a sister, Edna Blevins of Shady Valley; ten grandchildren, Gavin Craig Sluder, Patricia Gayle Santiago, Patty Shoun, Tim Sluder, Jackie Sluder, David Sluder, Charlotte Berry, Leslie Hill, Kenny Sluder and Lisa Sluder. Ten great-grandchildren ande several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p. m. Wednsday, May 11, 2005 from Victory Baptist Church. Brother Eddie Porter will officiate. Music will be under the direction of Don McAllister. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005 from the Gentry Cemetery in Shady Valley. Pallbearers will be Tim Sluder, David Sluder, Kenny Sluder, Daniel Morley, Andre Santiago and Michael Testerman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p. m. Wednesday at the church prior to the services and at other times will be at the residence at 540 Sluder Road in Shady Valley.

    Otis married Letha Opal Wright about 1935 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee. Letha (daughter of Allen Jesse Wright and Girdie Belle McEwen) was born on 17 Jan 1915 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 21 Sep 2014 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Gentry Cemetery, , Johnson County, Tennessee.     Notes:

    Edna Mae "Granny" Sluder Blevins, 98, passed peacefully from this earthly life into eternal life in heaven on Sunday, May 27, 2007. She was affectionately known as "Granny" by all who knew and loved her. She came to Shady Valley, Tenn. in a covered wagon from Ashe County, N.C. when she was five years old. She was married under a large oak tree near Mountain City, Tenn. to Wheeler Howard Blevins. They were married 67 years until his death on December 17, 1994. Granny was saved and baptized in 1944. She joined the Shady Valley Baptist Church at that time and has been a faithful member for 63 years. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years, sang in the choir, helped with VBS, and belonged to the WMU. She traveled extensively in the US and Europe. She also visited the Holy Land where her Savior was born. She loved to talk about her travel experiences. Her saddest days were the days after she lost her husband and four grandsons. Her grandsons who preceded her in death were James Plummer, Tommy Blevins, Stephen Blevins and Jimmy Lafferty. She also lost an infant great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Tolliver. She was proud of her large family. They are Elmo Blevins, Emery and Clara Blevins, Lillard and Ethel Blevins, Pervis and Phyllis Blevins, Kenneth and Norma Blevins, Betty and Jim Plummer, Ethan and Connie Blevins, Reba and John Tillery, Judy and John Tucker, Naomi and Willie Hammons, and Joseph and Janice Blevins. She has 31 grandchildren, 39 greatgrandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She also has several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of the Amos Lillard Sluder and Abigail Greer Sluder family. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at Shady Valley Baptist Church on May 30, 2007, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Shady Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Shady Valley Fire Department, Shady Valley Baptist Church or Shady Valley Memorial Gardens, all in Shady Valley, Tenn. 37688.

    Edna married Wheeler Howard Blevins on 15 Jan 1928 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee.     Alton L. Sluder, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at his home in Shady Valley, Tennessee. He was born December 19, 1938 to the late Otis and Letha Sluder. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Tim and his brothers: Cline, Curtis and Herbert Sluder.

    Alton was a lifelong resident of Shady Valley except for a few years that he lived in Maryland where during that time he drove the bus for Continental Trailways and also transported the Washington Redskins to and from games. Alton owned and operated Sluder Brothers Logging with his brothers for many years. He and his wife Shirley retired from S&S General Store.

    Alton was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

    He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

    Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Jones Sluder; daughter, Pattie Taylor and husband Rick and their sons: Austin Shoun, Matthew Shoun, Chad Taylor, Triston, Taylor and Garrett Taylor; daughter, Jackie Sluder Grindstaff and husband Blake and their daughter, Josie Cheyenne Grindstaff; grandson, Jake Sluder (Tim's Son); brother, Kenneth Sluder and wife Eula; several nieces, nephews and extended family members as well as many close family friends.

    Funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Porter officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. prior to the service.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Shady Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jake Sluder, Matt Shoun, Blake Grindstaff, Rick Taylor, Kenneth Blevins, Tad Morley, Tom Sluder and Tracey Mullins. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Sluder, Skip Wills, Jack Smith and Steve Snyder.

    Emery 'Tiny' Howard Blevins, age 87, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital of Abingdon, Virginia. He was born on September 3, 1929 to the late Wheeler and Edna Sluder Blevins. In addition to his parents, Tiny was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Camron Melba Brooks.

    Tiny was a lifelong resident of Shady Valley. He retired from Carr Brothers at the age of 65. He also worked for the Sluder Brothers and many others for years following his retirement. He loved his family and friends very much and they loved him. Tiny was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He loved going 'to the store' and visiting with his friends.

    Tiny was a United States Army Veteran and was stationed in Greenland and TX.

    He was a member of the Shady Valley Baptist Church.

    Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 62 years, Clara Reed Blevins of the home; daughter, Tammy Blevins Schofield; sons: Randy Blevins and wife Trish and Jamie Blevins and wife Billie, all of Mountain City, TN; sisters: Betty Plummer and husband Jim, Reba Tillery and husband John, Judy Tucker and husband John and Naomi Hammons and husband Willie; brothers: Elmo Blevins, Lillard Blevins and wife Ethel, Pervis 'Blackie' Blevins and wife Phyllis, Kenneth Blevins and wife Norma, Ethan Blevins and wife Connie and Joe Blevins and wife Janice; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service and interment with military honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will follow from the Shady Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dakota Guinn, Preston Dugger, A.J. Blevins, Kermit Morley, Lonnie Morley, Alan Hammons, Kenny Sluder and 'Peach' Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers are Alton Sluder, Kenneth Sluder, Members of Shady Valley Baptist Church and all of Tiny's special friends. The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Howard was born in Shady Valley on February 3, 1936, to the late Garfield Miller and Dolly Sluder Miller. In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by brothers, Jimmy and Winford Miller, sisters Barbara and Lillian.
    Howard was a United States Air Force Veteran, a carpenter by trade and loved woodworking and playing baseball
    Those left to cherish memories of Howard are his sons Carroll Miller and Scotty Gentry, his daughter Robin Manuel, granddaughters, Haley Miller, Dawn Tester, and Karen Fletcher, great-grandsons Jacob Fletcher, Nicholas Fletcher, Andrew Taylor, and Blake Tester, great-great-granddaughter, Cailie Tester, great-great-grandson, Caden Fletcher, sister-in-law Vivian Miller, nephew Brian Swayne, and special friends Tom Reece and Jerry Mounts.
    Funeral Service for Howard C. Miller will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday March 21, 2019, in the Charles B. Hux Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home. Rev. Steven Spencer and Daniel Jones will officiate. The family will receive friends starting at 12pm prior to the service.
    Graveside services, with Military rites accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard, will follow in the Shady Valley Memorial Gardens.
    Scotty Gentry, Michael Hodge, Tom Reece, Chris Manuel, Harold Manuel, Kenneth Sluder, and Jerry Mounts will serve as pallbearers. Jeff Tester, Jacob Fletcher, Nicholas Fletcher, Andrew Tester, and Blake Tester will be Honorary Pallbearers.
