    U.S. Veteran, Sam Whitehead, 80, Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at his residence.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Hensley and Mary Ann Ingram Whitehead.

    He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

    He was a retired Truck Driver.

    Mr. Whitehead was a member of the Roan Park Baptist Church.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Buster, Bob & George Whitehead and a son-in-law: William Bill Tolley.

    Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Ruby Johnson Whitehead. One Daughter: Rita Tolley and her late husband WilliamTolley, Roan Mountain. Three Sons: Kevin Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Clifford Whitehead and fiancé Judy King, Hampton and Roger Whitehe3ad and wife Margaret, Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Ray Whitehead, Elizabethton and Arnold Whitehead and wife Margaret, Roan Mountain. 5 Granddaughters, One Grandson and 12 Great Grandchildren. Several nieces & nephews including a special niece Robin Whitehead.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne Scbish officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Adam Johnson, Darren Lacy, Andy Stout, Rusty Estep, Jimmy Hill, Brandon Arrowood and Allen Lyons. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to his daughter-in-law, Margaret Whitehead and grandson, Travis Whitehead and Ivy Tester at Mtn. States Hospice. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.

    Sam married Ruby Louise Johnson on 11 May 1956 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Ruby (daughter of Carrick T. Johnson and Lucy Helen McCoury) was born about 1939 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 20 Sep 2021 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Johnson Roan View Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Hensley & Mary Ann Ingram Whitehead. He was a retired Mechanic at Carter County Motors. He was of the Missionary Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Evans, Sam, Ray & Bobby Whitehead.

    Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Margaret Johnson Whitehead, Several nieces & nephews. His special friends: Chad Golden and Glenn Blackburn.

    Graveside Service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 in the Johnson Roan View Cemetery with Jonathan Babb officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 3:20 p.m. Thursday will be: Roger Whitehead, Clifford Whitehead, Dusty Woodby, Jonathan Babb. Timothy Horton, Matthew Doyle, Llovd Myers and Travis McKinney.
