ELIZABETHTON - Rosa "Rose" Dugger Hodge, age 89, left this earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 10 at her residence.

A native of Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Hiram Hunter Dugger and Barbara Elizabeth Keller Dugger. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hodge was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Claude Hodge; two sisters, Geneva Belle Pilkin and Mary Kate Fritts; and two brothers, Truman Dugger and James Edward Dugger.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Hazel Amanda Pierce, Piney Flats; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; her special friend and companion, Ralph L. Gouge, Elizabethton. Rose considered Ralph's family as her special extended family, including his daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Gary Pierce, Bristol, along with their children James Pierce, Johnson City, and Wendy Hill, Knoxville; and Susan and John Estep, Elizabethton, with their sons Andrew Estep and Justin Estep, Elizabethton, who loveingly called her "Granny Rose." She also leaves behind her special friends, Kyle and Phyllis Gouge, of Johnson City.

Rose was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. She was retired from United Telephone after 30 years of service and also retired from the US Forestry Service after more than 10 years of service. Rose was a member of the Republican Women and was active in numerous other organizations.

A service to celebrate the life of Rosa "Rose" Dugger Hodge will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 15, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday. Friends may also visit with the family at the home of her sister, Hazel Pierce, Piney Flats, or at the residence of Ralph Gouge 228 Steel Bridge Road, Elizabethton.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Rosa married Claude S. Hodge on 25 Feb 1950 in , Carter County, Tennessee, . Claude (son of Abe Lincoln Hodge and Molle Esther Cole) was born about 1926 in , Carter County, Tennessee, ; died about 1996 in , Carter County, Tennessee, ; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, Carter County, Tennessee, . James Edward Dugger, age 81, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was born on June 15, 1929 to the late Hiram Hunter Dugger and Barbara Keller Dugger. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sons: Edward Dugger and Randy Dugger; sisters, Geneva Pilkin and Kate Fritts, and a brother, Truman Dugger. James had retired from the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center after 30 years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. James was a member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 for 52 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dollie Dugger; daughters: Delores Moore and husband Randall of Mountain City, TN and Kathy Morefield and husband Bud of Butler, TN; sons: Mitchell Dugger and wife Kathy of Luttrell, TN and Johnny Dugger and wife Melinda of Butler, TN; daughter-in-law, Vickie Dugger of Lubbock, TX; sister: Rose Hodge of Elizabethton, TN and Hazel Pierce of Piney Flats, TN; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service and Masonic Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Buddy Morefield and Bill Haywood, Ministers, to officiate.
Graveside Service and Military Honors will follow at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

PINEY FLATS - Hazel Amanda Dugger Pierce 89 of Piney Flats passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community in Elizabethton. She was a native of Johnson County and was the daughter of the late Hiram Hunter Dugger and Barbara Elizabeth Keller Dugger. Mrs. Pierce attended Edgefield United Methodist Church in Piney Flats. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Mrs. Pierce enjoyed doing volunteer work and was very active in Ruritan National Inc, Eastern Star and other civic organizations.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Ray Pierce; three sisters, Geneva Belle Pilkin, Mary Kate Fritts and Rose Hodge; two brothers, Truman Dugger and James Edward Dugger.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Pat Taylor and Debi Hopkins who lived with Hazel and Ed for a time and Joe Tolliver who was a great help to Hazel in her later years.

Graveside services for Mrs. Pierce will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, September 27, 2021 in the Monte Vista Memorial Gardens with Minister Estel Williams officiating. Nephews and great-nephews will serve as pallbearers.
