    James Millard "J.M." Peters, 80, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Pine Ridge Care Center after a brief illness.
    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Stacy and Martha Elizabeth Taylor Peters.
    J.M. was retired from Inland Container after 37 years of service. He loved to hunt and fish and work in his garden. He was a member of Moore's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister and a daughter, Debbie Kaye Peters Ensor.
    Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patsy Burrow Peters, a son, James L. "Jamie" Peters, Elizabethton, a grandson, Ryan Lee Peters, a granddaughter, Savannah Gobble, a great-grandson, J.B. Highsmith, and daughter-in-law, Lena M. Peters, all of Hampton.
    Funeral services for James Millard "J.M." Peters will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Phillips and the Rev. Bobby Burrow officiating. Music will be provided by Moore's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Burrow, Roger Burrow, Lawrence Hodge, his church family and friends from the Breakfast Club at Burger Hut. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
