Mrs. Elizabeth Ellis Hathaway, 73, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy P. Bowers, Bristol, Va., at 4:30 this morning. Surviving are Mrs. Roy P. Bowers, Mrs. Manley Oaks, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Mrs. Harry Greer, Miami, Fla., Mrs. Harry Missimer, Elizabethton, Mrs. Lee Disch, Harrisburg, Pa., Mrs. Ernest Headen, Williamson, W. Va., all daughters; and the sons, G. H. Hathaway, Appalachia, Va., C. R. Hathaway, Elizabethton, E. E. Hathaway, Elizabethton, O. C. Hathaway, Shreveport, La., Walter Hathaway, Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. Sis Bowers, Mrs. U. S. G. Ellis, both of Elizabethton; and one brother, Daniel Ellis, Jellico, Tenn.
The body will be taken this afternoon to the home of Mrs. E. E. Hathaway, 510 Maple street.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

FUNERAL WILL OCCUR FRIDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ellis Hathaway, well known woman of Carter county, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy B. Bowers, in Bristol, Va. Tuesday morning at 4:30, will be conducted from the home of her son, E. E. Hathaway, 510 Maple street Friday afternoon at 3:30 with the Rev. Ed Bishop of Greeneville, officiating, assisted by the Rev. G. W. Matney, the Rev. W. F. Pitts, and the Rev. C. L. Bowden of this city. Interment will be made in Highland Cemetery.
The deceased was a descendent of one of Carter county's oldest families, being the daughter of the late Capt. Dan Ellis of Civil war fame. She was born in 1861 and was a native of Carter county. Practically all her life was spent in and around Hampton. She was married to John W. Hathaway, who passed away 32 years prior to the day that Mrs. Hathaway died.
Mrs. Hathaway's death came quite unexpectedly having been stricken with what they thought only a minor illness Sunday evening. Tuesday morning members of the family were called but before they could arrive she passed away.
Early in life, Mrs. Hathaway united with the M. E. church and throughout her life she remained faithful to her vows. She has led a very active life and her cheerful nature endeared her to hundreds of friends over Carter county and in Bristol which she had created because of her kind and loving nature.
For the past 12 or 15 years she had made her home principally in Bristol with her daughter, Mrs. Roy Bowers and had just returned to Bristol from a visit with her sons and daughter in this city last week.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Roy B. Bowers, Bristol, Va., Mrs. Manley Oaks, Ft. Leavenworth, Kans.; Mrs. Harry Frear, Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Lee Desch, Harrisburg, Pa.; Mrs. Ernest Headon, Williamson, West Va.; five sons, G. H. Hathaway, Derby, Va.; Major C. R. Hathaway and E. E. Hathaway, Elizabethton, O. C. Hathaway, Shreveport, La.; Walter Hathaway, Hampton; one sister, Mrs. Sis Bowers, Elizabethton; two brothers, Daniel Ellis, Jellico and U. S. G. Ellis, Elizabethton. She is also survived by 34 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will include grandsons and son-in-laws and are Roy B. Bowers, Jr., Capt. Harry Hathaway, Mayor Fred Hathaway, John Hathaway, Harry Missimer, and Roy B. Bowers, Sr.
Flower bearers will include Mrs. Maude Elliott, Mrs. Mary Mottern, Mrs. Walter Grindstaff, Mrs. John Nave, Mrs. Mayme Wilcox Ferguson, Mrs. Albert Hathaway, Mrs. Hazel Smith, Mrs. Roy Wilcox, Mrs. Walter Brumit, Mrs. Chas. Hampton, Misses Sarah Crowe, Gladys Pitts, Helen Dugger and Edith Dugger.
All members of the family from out of town have arrived for the funeral.
