    Jacob McDaniel Boone, age 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 20,2008.
    Jacob was born September 3, 1925, and was the eldest son of the late Charles C. and Anne Loven Boone, of Mitchell County, North Carolina.
    He graduated from Bowman High School in Bakersville, NC. When his country called during World War II, Jacob served with distinction and honor in the US Army for two years, with part of his service in Germany. After his Army discharge, Jacob attended flight school, obtaining his private pilot's license and became a flight instructor at Johnson City Airport and Appalachian Flying Service. Through his love of flying, a fellow employee introduced him to the love of his life, Era Faye Jamerson.
    They were wed August 29, 1952, and lived together for 56 years. Jacob was a loyal family man and made countless sacrifices to provide those whom he loved with a good home, security and education. Jacob was employed by Federal Aviation Administration and retired in 1985, after 28 dedicated years of service,
    Jacob was a life long member of University Parkway Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and trustee. He loved his church family and was a devoted and faithful member, singing in the church choir, overseeing the audio-visual equipment, and was a pitcher on the men's softball team. In addition to his love of flying, Jacob also loved a challenge, particularly in electronics. His hobbies included repairing all sorts of electronic equipment for neighbors and friends. He also loved the challenge of the game of golf and fishing. After his retirement, Jacob fulfilled his love of sightseeing by traveling in his motor home to the west coast and Canada several times with members of his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half brother, Frank Anderson; and infant granddaughter, Erica Boone. Survivors include his wife, Era Faye Boone; children, Ronald Boone and wife, Darlene, Phyllis Boone and Debra Edmisten and husband, Charles; brother, Hugh Boone; sister, Jo Ruth Counts Hughes; grandchildren, Chelsea Boone and Brandon Edmisten; half-brothers, Jimmy Boone, Harry Anderson and Donald Anderson.

    JOHNSON CITY - Jo Ruth Counts-Hughes of Johnson City passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Spruce Pine, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie Loven Boone. Mrs. Hughes was retired from ETSU where she had worked in the Charles Sherrod Library. She was a longtime member of the Church of Jesus in Johnson City. Mrs. Hughes was a 1952 graduate of Science Hill High School and a graduate of Steed College. She was a member of the Musical Voices and enjoyed painting. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Counts; her step-father, Maynard Anderson and a half-brother, Franklin Delano Anderson.

    Survivors include her husband, Lester W. Hughes; three brothers, Hugh Boone of Spruce Pine, NC, Harry Anderson of Piney Flats and McDonald Anderson of Johnson City; two step-sons, Les Hughes of Ohio and Mark Hughes of Georgia; also several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be conducted at 7:00 PM Monday, April 17, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor George Hall officiating. Music will be provided by David Frances and the Musical Voices. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in Salem Cemetery, Washington College area. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
