Paul Edward “Bo” Gouge, 95, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Bristol Regional Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Avery and Etta Grace Kelly Gouge. He was a 1948 graduate of Unaka High School.
Paul served in the United States Air Force and was the retired owner of Bo’s Radio and Television Repair. In 2022 he was inducted into the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame. He loved fishing and spending his time outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jones Gouge, who passed away March 1, 2018; two brothers, Ulyss Gouge and Willard Gouge; and one sister, Mary Evelyn Hicks.
Survivors include three daughters, Paula (Tom) Hayes, Bristol, Va., Betty Hicks and Richard, Elizabethton, and Mary (Clinton) Reed, Watauga; seven grandchildren, Tara Hayes, Lindsey Hayes and Sean Michael, Kelly Chapman, Eddie Deloach, Katrina Peters, Austin (Lacee) Reed and Lucas (Caitlin) Reed; nine great-grandchildren, Haylea, Kate, Billy, Kylie, Timothy, Ariel, Rylan, Zayden and Allie; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Bill and Jerri Sunderland.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, October 17, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section) with Pastor Carolyn Kidd officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be provided by Bluff City Honor Guard DAV 39.

Notes:

Mrs. Helen G. Carrier, 89, 970 Hwy. 91, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Carrier was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Frank L. and Lena Rainbolt Gouge. In addition to her parents Mrs. Carrier was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Carrier was a member of Watuaga Valley Freewill Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Bemberg and Beaunit Fibers and was a member of the hospital auxiliary and served as a Pink Lady at Carter County Hospital. Mrs. Carrier loved to quilt and had made quilts for her three children and her eight grandchildren. She loved flowers and gardening.

Mrs. Carrier is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Diana Blevins, Elizabethton; Shelby and Raymond Williams, Lebanon, TN; one son and daughter-in-law, Walter S. and Linda Carrier, Elizabethton; one brother, Ralph Gouge, Elizabethton; a sister, Barbara Berry, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

ELIZABETHTON - Ralph Gouge, age 92, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following an extended illness.

Ralph was born in Carter County, Tennessee to the late Frank Leslie Gouge and Lena Rainbolt Gouge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Orlena Vines Gouge; and his special friend, Rose Hodge; three sisters, Novella Williams, Helen Carrier, and Vivian Elliott; three brothers, Howard Gouge, Fred Gouge, and Strail Gouge; and one grandson, Charles G. Pierce.

Ralph was a World War II Army veteran and was a former member of Hunter First Baptist Church. He retired as a machinist at UNIVAC and was a member of the Senior Dance Group. He enjoyed dancing, was an avid fisherman, gardening, but most of all he loved children – he was "Daddy" and "Papaw" to many.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Gary Pierce of Bristol, TN and Susan and John Estep of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, James Pierce of Johnson City, Wendy Hill and husband Spencer of Knoxville, Andrew Estep and fiancé Abi of Johnson City, and Justin Estep and fiancé Julie of Elizabethton; eight great-grandchildren, Hally and Spencer Hill, Colton, Carter, Chloe and Callie Otto, and Rhyleigh and Trey Whitson; two adopted sons, James Timbs and Gary Timbs both of Elizabethton; one sister, Barbara Berry of Elizabethton; one brother-in-law and wife, Edward G. and Marge Vines of Hyattsville, Maryland and a special cousin, Kyle and Phyliss Gouge of Johnson City. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Ralph Gouge will be conducted at 7:30 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Rusty Verran, officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Dr. Ted Taylor. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday, or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be James Pierce, Andrew Estep, Freddie Gouge, Todd Hamm, Brad Hamm, Gary Timbs and James Timbs. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Gouge, Gene Moreland and Members of the Senior Dance Group.

Monday evening, December 26, 2022, Norma “Jean” Gouge Elliott, 83, Elizabethton, was escorted by the Angels into the presence of Jesus from Signature Health Center. She was also reunited with her moma and sister whom she had so longed to see once again.
Jean was the daughter of the late Harold and Mattie Nidiffer Gouge. She was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Hodge, and her three brothers, Duard, Kyle and Wayne Gouge.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, but had most recently attended Southside Free Will Baptist Church, Elizabethton, until the decline in her health. She loved to have her Bible read to her daily.
The Lord granted her son, Bobby, the desire of his heart by letting him be with his mom, holding her hand and singing her favorite song to her, “What A Day That Will Be.” Just as he finished singing she took a deep breath and was gone to glory.
She is survived by four children, Bobby Miller, of the home, and her caregiver, David (Nancy) Miller, Knoxville, Greg (Carol) White of Wyoming and Kristi (Scott) Noe, Jonesborough; and five grandchildren, Emily (Franky) Covarrubias of Colorado, Lauren and Caroline Miller, Knoxville, Tyler Noe, Jonesborough, and Jacob (Sabrina) Noe, Knoxville. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Arya and Carter Covarrubias and Wyatt Noe. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
It was her wish to be cremated and that no service be held.
Bobby would like to give a big shout out of thanks to Debbie Street, Administrator of Signature Health Care, her staff and also the entire nursing staff who so generously showered mom with love and compassion, and I cannot forget housekeeping and the laundry department for their care and concern. Special thanks goes out to Dr. Keith Cook and his nurse Alishia for many years of healthcare and love given to mom.
