Carl Shoun, 72, Roan Mountain, died in Carter County Memorial Hospital Thursday evening following a short illness.
A native of Johnson County, he was a salesman for McNess Products Co. for the past 25 years. He was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow Mrs. Pishie Short Shoun; one daughter, Mrs. G.A. Pleasant Rt. 3, Butler; two sisters, Mrs. Suma Lowe, Mountain City; one brother, Claude Shoun, Boise, Idaho.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Greer and the Rev. S.W. Myers officiating. Burial was in Shoun Cemetery, Bethel Community, Mountain City. The Unaka Baptist Choir were in charge of the music. Active pallbearers were Ted Ray Myers, Sproles Nave, Riley Murray, Ivan Morley, Earl Williams, and J.E. Arnold. The family received friends from 7 until 9 Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Charles Smith Lowe, age 84, Jonesborough, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Lowe was a native of Washington County and son of the late Lawson & Mary Ena Morley Lowe. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Pruitt Lowe, Reba Pangle, Inez Henry, Albert Lowe, Alberta Miller, Mary Sue Murray and Gale Lowe. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Lowe was past Director of Washington County Farm Bureau and Washington County Co-op. He was a Dairyman and had worked for East Tennessee Select Sires and bred dairy cattle for 40 years. Charlie, as he was known to his friends, was an avid hunter, enjoying deer and quail hunting. His hobbies including raising cochin chickens and quail. Charlie loved the outdoors, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. ELIZABETHTON – Mr. Ivan E. Morley, 90, 1266 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at his residence.

He was the son of the late W.B. and Cassie Lowe Morley and was born in Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vanetia Elliott Morley; and his second wife, Yvonne Garland Morley.

Mr. Morley was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of Unaka Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. He was a former employee of Sears, Raytheon and Bonanza Steak House and was a lifetime farmer.

Mr. Morley is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, J.B. and Ava Nell Morley, Elizabethton, Dale and Beverly Morley, Johnson City; four grandsons, James Morley and his wife, Janet, Todd Morley and his wife, Regina, Terry Morley, all of Elizabethton; David Morley, Greeneville, TN; three great-granddaughters, Kristin Taylor and her husband, Jacob, South Carolina; Jamie Morley, Elizabethton; Kasey Morley, Bristol; three great-grandsons, Tristan Morley, Jacob Morley and Ivan Morley, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Morley will be conducted on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Walker Roberson and Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Music will under the direction of the Unaka Baptist Church Choir.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday prior to the service. Friends may also call at the homes of his sons, J.B. and Ava Nell, 1232 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, or Dale and Beverly, 131 VonCannon Drive, Johnson City.

Entombment will be conducted on Monday, March 1, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Mausoleum of Peace. Ms. Patricia Lou Lowe, age 80, Johnson City, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Thursday, March 28, 2013 at her residence. She died shortly after receiving the news of her sister's death.

Ms. Lowe was a native of Washington County and daughter of the late Elbert Hamilton & Pearl Pippin Lowe.

She was a lifelong member of Midway Baptist Church.

Ms. Lowe was a retired School Teacher and Librarian.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Lewis A. & Ingeborg K. Lowe; brother-in-law, Robert N. Leach, Sr.; two nieces, Susie Lowe Whittington and Ellen Lowe Do; four nephews, Ken Whitlock, Michael Whitlock, Robert N. Leach Jr., M.D., and David K. Leach; six great nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013 at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. William Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. The services will be held in conjunction with those of her sister, Betty Leach.

BUTLER - Ralph W. McEwen, age 90, of Butler, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital with his family by his side.

Ralph was born in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Jacob Wade McEwen and Ida Lee Lowe McEwen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Ralph retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 45 years of service. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, where in the past he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. He was very hardworking man; he farmed, raised cattle, was an extraordinary gardener and was known as the "Tomato King" because he grew the best tomatoes!

Family was important to Mr. McEwen, he was a very loving and devoted husband and father, and his extended family also played an important role in his life. Ralph loved the outdoors and gardening and he loved his wife June's cooking so much! He loved being at home and believed in hard work.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 70 years, June McEwen, of the home; a daughter, Linda McEwen Cole and husband Harold, of Johnson City; a granddaughter, Rebecca Cole Allen and husband Rusty, of Raleigh, NC; a grandson, Chandler Allen, who was the light of his life, of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Kate Arrants-Stermer, of Butler; two special nephews, Dennis Stout, of Winchester, VA and Frank Murray of Stoney Creek. Several nieces and nephews, special neighbors and friends, Jack Slemp, Kenny Lahman, Eric Matherly, Junior McQueen, and Carolyn Lyon also survive.

A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Ralph W. McEwen will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Buddy Street and Rev. A.J. Potter, officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM on Monday, February 8, 2016, in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

Mr. Albert M. Berry, age 81, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, at Four Oaks Health Care Center.

Mr. Berry was born in Carter County, the son of Dan J. and Trula Mae Lowe Berry.

He graduated from Unaka High School and attended Milligan College. After serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War as a Technical Sergeant, he graduated from East Tennessee State University.

He was a respected member of the banking industry in Johnson City for many years. He was a member of the Johnson City Rotary Club and served as a president of the North Johnson City Business Club. He retired from SunTrust Bank in 1996 as vice president.

He was married to Margaret Anne Potter Berry for over 55 years. He was a loving father to Jeffrey Alan Berry and a proud grandfather of Elijah and Marlee Berry. He also provided care and support to many family members throughout their lives.

Being involved in church was an important aspect of his life. He grew up in Caldwell Springs Baptist Church in Elizabethton. He served as deacon at First Baptist Church in Jonesborough. He became a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Jonesborough where he also served as a deacon and provided leadership on Building Steering Committees. He was a member of the Challengers Sunday School Class.

After his retirement, he enjoyed building and remodeling. A prized accomplishment was the renovation of his home place in Stoney Creek in Elizabethton.

Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pearl Dick and Irene Tucker, of Elizabethton; and his only son, Jeffrey Alan Berry, of Jonesborough.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Potter Berry, Jonesborough; grandson, Elijah Taylor Berry and granddaughter, Marlee Irene Berry, Jonesborough; his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Moore Berry, Jonesborough; sister-in-law, Joyce Elizabeth Potter, Jonesborough; and sisters, Murrell Persick, Maryland, Kate Berry, Virginia, Kaye Berry, Virginia, Edna Eitel and husband, William Eitel, Delaware, and Linda Davis, Virginia. He is also survived by several special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Harrod and Rev. Robert English officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Highland Cemetery. Kermit Lane "Bill" Lowe of Telford passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family, on August 13, 2017. He was 96 years old. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Agnes Ratcliff Penick Lowe, step-children Donna Penick (North Hills, CA) and Edward Penick (Roanoke, VA), daughter-in-law Eline Penick (Roanoke, VA), grandchildren Samuel Hartsfield (Portland, OR), Anna Dawahare (Porter Ranch, CA), Tech Sgt John Penick (Okinawa) and Elizabeth Penick (Asheville, NC), five great-grandchildren, niece Pat Lowe Reece, and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Callie Shoun Lowe and Kemp Lowe, five brothers, and four sisters. He was the longest-lived member of the family.

Bill was born July 8, 1921, and grew up in the Bethel community of Johnson County on a farm originally cleared by his ancestors in the early 1800s. He moved to Carter County and then to Johnson City, where he worked for several furniture and appliance companies. In 1959, he married Agnes Ratcliff Penick, a widow with two young children.

Bill was driven to have his own business, so in 1968, he started Bill Lowe's Carpet Shop, whose motto was "We measure by the golden rule." After several years in Johnson City, he relocated the business to Jonesborough. Because of his integrity, many area churches and families chose him for their carpet needs. He served his customers well for over 25 years.

Bill's special interests were family, farm life, Buicks, antique cars, and travel. He and Agnes traveled to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Alaska and most of the lower 48 states.

Bill and Agnes are faithful members of First Baptist Church in Jonesborough, where he served in different capacities for many years. He was active in the Bowmantown Ruritan and Meals on Wheels. Bill was a faithful and devoted husband, generous to those in need, and much loved by his family.

Funeral services for Mr. Lowe will be conducted Thursday, August 17, 2017, 1:30 PM at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. James Harrison officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 12:00 to 1:30 prior to the service.

Graveside services will follow at Monte Vista Burial Park.

Richard D. Lowe, age 85, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away at Broadmore Assisted Living on Saturday, January 2 after a short illness.

Richard was preceded in death by parents, Kemp and Callie Shoun Lowe, and brothers and sisters, Earl, Ned, Nathan, Van, Ruth Chambers, Bess Branch, Grace Hines, and Anna June Lowe, as well as his first wife, Edith Roberts Lowe, who died on June 25, 1990, and second wife, Jean Darr Lowe, who died on November 17, 2008.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Agnes Lowe, Telford, TN; and numerous nephews and nieces, including Patricia Reece, Mountain City, TN; Darryl Lowe, Knoxville, TN; Nathan Lowe, Jr., Bristol, TN, Robert Lowe, Roanoke, VA, Felix Lowe, Bluffton, SC., Elisabeth Munsey, Johnson City, TN, David Lowe, Middleton MA, Donna Penick, Northridge, CA, Eddie Penick, Roanoke, VA and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Richard served with the U.S. Navy in the Second World War from May 13, 1941, until the date of his honorable discharge on October 23, 1945. After discharge from the Navy, Richard worked in Washington D.C. as a commercial painter until he retired and moved to Johnson City. He was very close to his many friends from "the paint store." He loved to travel and sailed on many cruises all around the world. He also enjoyed UT football and tailgating.

Special recognition to niece Diane Saults and great nieces Lisa Orr and Penny Reece for their devoted love and attention. Also, thanks to the many special people at Broadmore Assisted Living who got to know Richard well in such a short period of time and who provided care for him.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The family will then proceed to Washington County Memory Gardens for graveside services at 2:30 p.m.

J. L. LOWE DIES IN GUATEMALA
Word has been received by the parents, R. S. and Mrs. Lowe, of the death of their son, Private J. L. Lowe, which occurred June 22. Death came from drowning in the port of San Jose, Gautemala, with the body being recovered June 27. Burial was on June 28 in Corazal Cemetery, Canal Zone.
Private Lowe had been in the Army for 14 months. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Among his survivors are the parents, R. S. and Mrs. Lowe; Mrs. Opal McQueen, Butler, Mrs. Virginia Shoun, Avondale, Pa., Betty Lowe, Mountain City, Paul Loe, Salem, Oreton, S. C. Lowe, of Weber City Va. and Richard Lowe, of Johnson City; three sisters, Mrs. Joe McQueen, Butler; Mrs. Jack Shoun, Avondale, Pa., and Mrs. Bettie Durnan[sic], Wilmington, Del.
Funeral services were conducted from Lewis Gentry Funeral Home chapel Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Rev. Tom Worley officiating. The burial was in Shoun cemetery. Pallbearers and flowerbearers[sic] were friends and neighbors.

Notes:

Richard S. Lowe, died at his home in Johnson City on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, following an extended illness. He was a native of Mountain City, Tennessee, and had lived in Johnson City since 1960. He was the son of the late Richard S. Lowe Sr. and Cassie Ellen Lowe. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He was an Air Force veteran who served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lowe retired from Eastman Kodak Company after 32 years of service. He was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and trustee. He is survived by his wife, Christine Lowe, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Richard Todd Lowe and wife, Daisy, and their twin daughters, Zoe Grace and Kate Ellen, of Hong Kong; Terry Lowe and wife, Renee, and their sons, Austin Blake and Evan Patrick, of Gray; one sister, Betty Durnan, Delaware; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be brothers-in-law, nephews, and deacons of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Sluder, Fred Addison, Marvin McKinney, Carroll Billheimer, Bill Roberson, Lester Arnold, Bill Brookshire, Randal Pierce, Danny Ray Miller, Wilson Terry, Mickey Leonard, Frank Lawrence, Jim Brogdon, teammates in the Pro-Am Golf League, friends at the McDonald’s club and friends and neighbors in Garland Farms. A celebration of life services for Mr. Lowe will be conducted at Sinking Creek Baptist Church, Thursday, November 18, 2004, at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Reece Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Washington County Memory Gardens at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2004. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Rhea Davis Cole on February 24, 2003. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Burley Cole and Harry Cole, and by two sisters, Margaret Click and Mabel Reynolds Owens.

Mr. Cole was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Mr. Cole was also a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM.

He was a retired Route Delivery Salesman having worked for Carrier's Bakery, Larkin Bakery, Southern Bakery and Sunbeam Bakery.

The funeral service was conducted at 6 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2004 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral Home.

The graveside service and interment were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

JOHNSON CITY- Mr. Delmer William Lowe, 80, of 1825 W. Lakeview Dr., went home to be with the Lord,on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his home. A native of Washington County, he was the son of the late George and Annie Blevins Lowe. Delmer was a U.S. Army veteran, 82 Airborne, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Carrier. He was a Mason with the Jonesborough Lodge. Mr. Lowe was a lifelong Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Baby Girl Lowe, his great grandson, Luke Smalling; six brothers, James, Lonza, Dan, Eugene, Roby, and Selmer Lowe; three sisters, Ethel Sheets, Thelma Crocetta, and Bessie Peters. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Roberta Crowe Lowe, of the home; son, George Lowe of Mulberry, FL; two daughters, Teresa Lowe Smalling and husband Tom of Johnson City and Barbara Lowe Tucker and husband Jerry of Gray; sisters Georgia Morgan and Yvonne Arnet both of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Duane and Scott Smalling, Chasity Ferrando, Wes Tucker, and Lindsey Jessen; 15 great grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, July 29, 2011, from 6-8pm, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Services will be held, 8pm, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, South Chapel. Burial will be held, Saturday, 10am, at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens. .Brother Roy Tucker and Chaplain Victor Tucker will be officiating. The organist will be Lynda Tucker and soloist will be Jennifer Tucker. BUTLER - Bonnie L. Stout, age 82, of Butler, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Lakebridge Waters Community in Johnson City, TN, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 2, 1937 in Johnson County, TN to the late William and Verna Lowe. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Stout; sister; Venia Stout & Sue Roberts, brothers; Farley, Clarence, Delmer, Senter, & Roby Lowe.

Bonnie enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. She loved being able to keep and Spend time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Ricky Stout and Bobby Stout & wife Robin. Grandchildren, Courtney Stout and Connor Stout. Special Niece that was by her side; Dorsey Lowe. Special friend, Beaut Hardin and other nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kreg Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rock Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Mike Stout, Eddie Courtner, Scott Courtner, Ray Stout, Marty Trivette, Carl Howard and David Bunting.
