Mrs. Selma Virgie Rainbolt, 81, of Rt. 2, Butler, died at the residence Tuesday morning following an extended illness. The widow of the late Julius Grant Rainbolt, she was a native of Carter County and a member of the Little Milligan Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, J.G. Rainbolt, Jr. of Rt. 2 Butler; three daughters, Mrs. Viola Whaley, Mrs. Bertha Whaley and Mrs. Retha Whaley, all of Rt. 2. Butler; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Funeral services for Mrs. Selma Virgie Rainbolt will be conducted from the Little Milligan Baptist Church at 2 pm Friday with Rev. John Farrell and Rev. Clawson Snodgrass officiating. Music by the Church Choir. Active pallbearers: Paco Smith, Fred Griffey, Crawford Smith, Ray Griffey, Conley Smith, Ham Smith, Charlie Smith and Hobert Smith. Flower bearers will be ladies of the church. The body was returned to the home Wednesday morning and will be removed to the church at noon Friday to await the service hour. Burial in Smith Cemetery. Tetrick Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Selma married Julius Grant Rainbolt about 1911 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Julius (son of James J. Rainbolt and Mary Catharine Lewis) was born in May 1890 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 13 Sep 1939 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Butler Memorial Cemetery, , Johnson County, Tennessee. Julius married Cordelia Hazel Sheets on 12 Jan 1948 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Cordelia was born on 4 Jan 1924; died on 26 Apr 1983 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Griffith Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Howard Rainbolt, 70, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on September 25, 1950 in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Julius Grant Rainbolt and Hazel Cordelia Sheets Rainbolt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Cable.
Howard was always a hard worker. He loved the outdoors and also hunting and fishing.
Howard was a member of Fish Springs Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 39 years, Barbara Rainbolt; son, Eric Watson; brother, Toby Ray Rainbolt; grandchildren, Austin Watson, Dominic Watson and Preston Watson; great-grandchildren, Jackson James Watson and Cash Watson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from noon until 1 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Fish Springs Baptist Church. A funeral service followed at 1 p.m. with Pastors Toby Rainbolt, Donnie Cable and Stevie Guinn officiating. The graveside service followed the funeral service at the Griffith Cemetery. Pallbearers were Austin Watson, Dominic Watson, Preston Watson, CJ Rainbolt, Heath Cable and Jimmy Widner. Honorary pallbearers were his church family at Fish Springs Baptist Church.

Janie Ann Rainbolt Cable, age 51, 468 County Road 709, Riceville, TN, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, September 29, 2006, at her residence.

A native of Carter County, she moved to Riceville, TN, in 2003, where she lived.

Janie is the daughter of the late J.G. and Cordellia Hazel Sheets Rainbolt.

She was a member of Riceville Church of Christ. Janie was a former employee of University of Tennessee Extension Service as a program assistant.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Elwood Cable.

Survivors include her husband, Donnie Cable, of the home; a son, Heath and daughter-in-law, Janna Cable, Decatur, TN; a daughter, Melanie Cable, of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Barbara Rainbolt, Toby and Mary Rainbolt, all of Butler, TN; Special cousin, Ella Jean (Bud) Lunceford, Butler, TN; eight brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Darell and Judith Cable, Marion, NC, Ray and Barbara Cable, Elizabethton, TN, Loyd and Regina Cable, Hickory, NC, Dale and Karen Cable, Hampton, TN, Ellis and Belle Cable, Butler, TN, Charles and Janice Cable, Butler, TN, Gary and Rose Cable, Elizabethton, TN, Jerry and Sharon Cable, Butler, TN; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Delores and Jerry Hicks, Butler, TN, Susie and Bruce Carter, Elizabethton, TN, Pennye Cable, Hampton, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The graveside service will be conducted at Griffith Cemetery, Fish Springs Community, Butler.

Shirley Diana Poole, 67, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Bertha Rainbolt Whaley.
Shirley was formerly employed by C & A Lingerie and Ritchie’s. She loved to sing. Diana was a former member of Little Milligan Baptist Church but lately attended First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Reinhart, and a brother, Dwight Whaley.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Scotty and Martina Poole, Elizabethton; one grandson, Matthew Poole, Clover, S.C.; one great-granddaughter, December Poole; one sister and brother-in-law, Claudette and Jim Campbell, Butler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Nathan Jennings officiating. Music will be provided by Tony Rominger. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, in the Lakeview Cemetery, Butler. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be residents of Courtyard Apartments and her special friend, Linda Deloach. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Carter County EMS and the staff of the ER at Johnson City Medical Center.
