    Mr. Buster Charles Eggers, 86, of 490 J.L. Temple Road, Lexington, a native and former resident of Watauga County, died Tuesday afternoon, April 1, 2003, at home.
    He was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Valle Crucis, to the late Walter Eugene and Tempie Shook Eggers.
    Mr. Eggers was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Duracell Battery Company in Lexington. He was a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church.
    Survivors include his wife, Jean Story Eggers; two sons, Charles Henry Eggers and wife, Margaret, and Noah Walter Eggers and wife, Wanda, all of Lexington; five grandsons, Keith Eggers, Lynn Eggers, Phillip Eggers and wife, Sherry, and Mark Eggers, all of Lexington, and Scott Eggers and wife, Kristin, of Dallas, Georgia; three great-granddaughters, Samantha Eggers and Madeline Eggers, both of Lexington and Emma Eggers of Dallas, Ga.; one brother, Fred Eggers and wife, Flavel, of Boone; three sisters, Etta Davis and husband, Hildreth, and Mary Lou Eggers and husband, Hoover, all of Boone and Betty Hughes and husband, Dee, of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bonnie Eggers of Lexington; and two brothers-in-law, Cecil Tester of Lexington and Ben Caraway of Newland. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by three sisters, Charlotte Cole, Alice Tester and Snow Caraway; three brothers, Claude Eggers, Jack Eggers and infant Dale Eggers; a grandson, Todd Eggers; a sister-in-law, Ruby Allen Eggers; and a brother-in-law, Marlin Cole.
    Services were conducted Friday morning at 11 o'clock at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, officiated by the Rev. Frankie Matthews. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington.

    Etta Davis, age 91, of 727 Dutch Creek Road, Banner Elk, died Monday morning, October 15, 2012, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

    Mrs. Davis was born in the Dutch Creek Community, March 12, 1921, a daughter of the late Walter Eugene Eggers and Tempie Catherine Shook Eggers. She was a homemaker and a member of Clarks Creek Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Triplett and husband Roy of Vilas, and Brenda Davis of Banner Elk; two granddaughters, Lori Miller and fiance Nathan Church of Boone, and Lynn Hogan and husband James of Fleetwood; two grandsons, Bryan Miller of Banner Elk, and Jordan Triplett and wife Crystal of Vilas; three great-granddaughters, Ashley Kaczmarczyk, Chloe Miller, and Victoria Smith; three great-grandsons, Cody Swift, Corey Swift, and Patrick Smith; two great great-granddaughters, Taylor and Olivia Kaczmarczyk, and two sisters, Mary Lou Eggers and husband Hoover of Banner Elk, and Betty Faye Hughes and husband Dee of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hildreth Davis; one daughter, Patricia Miller; three sisters and five brothers.

    Funeral services for Etta Eggers Davis will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, October 17, 2012, at 1:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 12:00 until 1:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Zane Tester. Burial will follow in the Matney-Liberty Cemetery.

    He was born Aug. 2, 1922 in Watauga County. Mr. Eggers was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of White Rock Baptist Church. He owned and operated a dairy farm and retired from Security Oil Company in Concord.

    Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hatley Eggers; one son, Carroll Eggers and his wife, Linda, of Concord; a step-daughter, Sandy Davis and husband, Bill, of Boone; two step-sons, Bill Allen, Jr. and wife, Pam, of Fayetteville and Tim Allen and wife, Trina, of Charlotte; two grandsons, Sonny and Darrell Eggers, both of Concord; two step-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Eggers of Boone, Buster Eggers and Jack Eggers, both of Lexington; and three sisters, Etta Davis and Mary Lou Eggers, both of Banner Elk, and Betty Faye Hughes of Roan Mountain, Tenn.

    Services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Charles McKinney and the Rev. J.C. Greene. Burial will follow in the Matney-Liberty Cemetery.

    He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in Italy, France, England and Germany, and was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Infantryman Badge.

    He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and Boone Optimist Club.

    He attended Greenway Baptist Church.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Buster, Claude, Jack and infant Joe Dale Eggers; three sisters, Charlotte Cole, Alice Tester and Snow Caraway.

    Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Taylor Eggers; one son, Michael Eggers and wife, Vonda; and one daughter, Ms. Donna Condrey, all of Lexington; one grandson, Daniel Condrey; and three granddaughters, Ashley Wells, Kimberly Eggers and Traci Condrey, all of Lexington; two brothers, Buster Eggers and wife, Jean, of Lexington and Fred Eggers and wife, Flavel, of Boone; three sisters, Etta Davis and husband Hildreth and Mary Eggers and husband, Hoover, all of Banner Elk and Betty Hughes and husband, S.E., of Roan Mountain, Tenn.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Eggers and Dale Jo Eggers; and three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Cole, Mrs. Alice Tester and Mrs. Snow Caraway.

    Services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington, officiated by the Rev. Chris Noland and the Rev. Tommy Cashatt. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington.

    Survivors include her husband, Cecil Tester; four sons, Terry Tester, Jeffrey Tester and Kevin Tester, all of Lexington and W.T. Tester of Salisbury; one daughter, Mrs. Jimmy (Ala Jo) Koontz of Lexington; four brothers, Buster Eggers and Jack Eggers, both of Lexington, Claude Eggers of Route 3, Banner Elk and Fred Eggers of Boone; four sisters, Mrs. Etta Davis and Mrs. Mary Eggers, both of Route 4, Banner Elk; Mrs. Snow Caraway of Newland and Mrs. Betty Hughes of Roan Mountain, Tenn. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Cecil Gary Tester and a sister, Mrs. Charlotte Cole.

    Services will be Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Max Shoaf and the Rev. Lynne Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington.

She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

    ROAN MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Betty F. Hughes, 82, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Hughes was born in Watauga County, NC and was a daughter of the late Eugene and Tempie Shook Eggers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, S.D. Hughes, in 2013; five brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Hughes was a loving mother and a faithful member of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church for over forty-two years. She was an LPN who graduated from nurses training in 1957.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Eddie Hughes of the home and several nieces and nephews.

    A service to honor the life of Mrs. Hughes will be conducted on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Burbank Freewill Baptist Church with Richard Blevins, and Randy English, Ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church. The family will receive friends in the church from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends and family. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet the family at the Burbank Freewill Baptist Church at 1:30 PM on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.

    The family would like to express a special thank you to all Mrs. Hughes' friends and church members for the care and compassion shown to her and the family during her illness.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Cole and Alice Tester, and a brother, Dale Joe Eggers. Mrs. Caraway was a nurse. Survivors include her husband, Ben Hayden Caraway, of the home; a daughter, Karen Howell, Wilmington, N.C.; a son, Mickey Caraway, Newland, N.C.; three sisters, Etta Davis and Mary Lou Eggers, both of Valle Crucis, N.C., and Betty Faye Hughes, Roan Mountain; and four brothers, Jack Eggers and Buster Eggers, both of Lexington, N.C., Claude Eggers, Matney, N.C., and Fred Eggers, Boone, N.C. Three grandchildren also survive.


    CARAWAY -- Funeral services for Marjorie Snow Caraway, 62, Rt. 1, Newland, N.C. (Minneapolis Community), who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Beers and Rev. Brown Howell officiating. Interment will follow at 10 a.m. Friday in the Caraway Cemetery, Elk Park, N.C.
