    Gladys Irene Norris McCracken

    Gladys Irene Norris McCracken, 91, of the Central Community, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, March 5, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. She was born in the Laurel Fork Community on Buck Mountain in Carter County on May 29, 1919, to the late Bynum Lee and China RoseAnn Church Norris. She was a homemaker and an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was blessed to live 91 active years enjoying the love of her family, and took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as Grandma Mac.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Herman McCracken and a brother, Melbourne Norris.

    She is survived by her children, Dennis McCracken, of Aberdeen, NC; Helen McCracken Dudley and husband, Neil, of Roanoke, VA; Gerald McCracken and wife, Karen, of Rock Hill, SC; and Jeffrey "Ben" McCracken, of the home; grandchildren, Jessamyn Rachels and husband, Lee, of Summerville, SC; Dylan McCracken, of New Orleans, LA; Kirk Dudley and wife, KyAnne, of Roanoke, VA; Scott Dudley and girlfriend, Amina Ali, of Cloverdale, VA; and Jason McCracken, Rock Hill, SC; great-grandchildren, Leah and Seth Rachels, Jaylen Reeves and Donte Collins, sisters; Elwanda Reeser and Veryl Hopson, both of Elizabethton; a brother, Beryl Norris and wife, Jo Ann, of Shell Creek; and special friends, Nancy Dennis and husband, David, of Charleston, SC; and Jeanie Walker and husband, Billy, of Johnson City.

    The funeral service for Mrs. Gladys Irene Norris McCracken will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Sorah officiating.

    ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Elwanda Norris Reeser, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 in the Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton.

    A native of Watauga County, NC she was the daughter of the late Bynum Lee Norris and China Rose Church Norris. Mrs. Reeser was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a former member of Doe River Baptist Church, Elizabethton. While at Doe River Baptist Church she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Reeser enjoyed working in her gardens and especially loved her flowers.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Reeser in 2002; a son, Ralph D. Reeser; a sister, Gladys McCracken and a brother, Melbourne Norris. Those left to cherish her memory include a son Floyd R. Reeser and wife Joy, Elizabethton, TN; a daughter, Phyllis M. Reeser Eggers and husband Cecil, Elizabethton, TN; four grandchildren, Clinton Reeser and wife Carla, Elizabethton, TN; Ingrid Deloach and husband Shannon, Hampton, TN; Travis Eggers and wife Lorrie, Blountville, TN and Eric Eggers and wife Penny, Dacula, GA; eight great-grandchildren, Sydney Puckett, Kinsley Reeser, Cody Eggers and wife Kayla, McKenzie Caldwell and husband Todd, all of Elizabethton, TN; Lexi Eggers, Bailee Eggers and Ally Eggers, all of Dacula, GA; Karra Ratliff, Blountville, TN and a soon to be born great-grandchild, Everly Deloach; two great-great – grandchildren, Brycen Eggers and Reid Caldwell; a brother, Beryl Norris, Roan Mountain, TN; a sister, Veryl Hopson, Elizabethton, TN and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Reeser, Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A celebration of life service for Mrs. Elwanda Norris Reeser will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 31, 2017 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Chris Hughes and Rev. Travis Tyler officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gordon Kyte and Loren Harris. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday prior to the funeral service or at her residence or at the residence of her daughter, Phyllis Eggers at other times.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 1, 2017 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Travis Eggers, Eric Eggers, Clinton Reeser, Shannon Deloach, Cody Eggers and Todd Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Theil McCracken, Harold Smith, David Ferguson and her nephews.

    Elwanda married Everett H. Reeser on 22 May 1943 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Everett (son of Allen Herman Reeser and Iva Dell Hensley) was born on 25 Aug 1916 in Greene County, , , Tennessee; died on 16 Dec 2002 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee.     Veryl Norris “Grandma” Hopson, 93, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, in the Hermitage Health Center. A native of Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Bynum & China Church Norris. She was a graduate of Cloudland High School. She operated Grandma’s Day Care for a number of years. Veryl was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. She loved to sew and loved to work with her flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Henry Hopson and a grandson: Kevin Arney.
    Survivors include her children: Linda & Ken Arney, Clara & Tom Ingram and John & Katrina Hopson all of Elizabethton. Four Grandchildren: Blake Hopson and wife Carrie, Jaycee Hopson, Colbie Hopson, Amy Estep and husband Ihab El-Shinnawy. Four Great Grandchildren.
    Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the family will have a private service Saturday at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Greg Key Minister officiating.
