Omer "Wilt" Johnson, 99, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017, at The Waters at Roan Highlands Nursing Center. Mr. Johnson was born in Carter County and was the son of the late Jacob and Dovie Ledford Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Earl Johnson, Ed Johnson, Ike Johnson, Clarence Johnson and Dayton Johnson; four sisters, Ballie Brown, Lori McMahan, Pearl Johnson and Cenia Cordell; and three grandchildren, Sherry Babb, Timmy Woodby and Paul Hathaway.
Mr. Johnson was a member of St. John's Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, farming, logging and working with his horses.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Texie Johnson, Roan Mountain; four daughters, Margaret Whitehead (Arnold), Roan Mountain, Grace Wagner, Hampton, Frankie Woodby, Elizabethton, and Robin McKinney, Roan Mountain; two sons, Jerry Johnson, Elizabethton, and Wilson "Junior" Johnson, Hampton; 11 grandchildren, Melissa Doyle, Teresa Simerly, Michael Woodby, Dusty Woodby, Wesley Woodby, Randy Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Carrie Johnson, Christy Johnson, Tammie Rinehart and Travis McKinney; 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends in the Rhododendron Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 25. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26, in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery with Rev. Randy English officiating. Active pallbearers will be Andrew Jones, Merle Townsend, Jeff McKinney with others selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the Rhododendron Chapel in Roan Mountain at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special and sincere thank you to the staff of The Waters at Roan Highlands for the love and care shown to Mr. Johnson during his time there.

Buried:
Kathleen Burleson, 74, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at her residence. Kathleen was born in Roan Mountain to the late Walter and Vallie Johnson Brown. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, William Burleson; a daughter, Lisa Gail Brown Salley; and a nephew, Bobby Brown.
Kathleen was a wonderful cook, homemaker and mother. She was sassy and an excellent improviser — she was able to think quick and work efficiently in all situations. Kathleen was a Christian lady and taught Sunday School at Roan Mountain Church of God for several years and had also served as the church treasurer. Most of all, Kathleen loved her family and working in her flowers. She was a true perfectionist with her yard.
Those left to cherish Kathleen’s memories include a son, Ronnie L. Beam of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; her son-in-law, Randy Salley of North Carolina; her brother, Jack (Juanita) Brown of Virginia; and her special friend, Louise Hughes. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate Kathleen’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 9, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Randy English officiating. Music will be provided by Janet Paschal. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 10, in the Smith Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Brown and Greg Brown, Richard Brown and Israel King.

Frankie Johnson Woodby, 70, of 147 Mill Pond Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017, at her home. She was the daughter of Texie Winters Johnson, of Roan Mountain, and the late Wilt Johnson, and was born in Roan Mountain. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dana Cecil Woodby; a son, Timmy Woodby; and a niece, Sherry Babb.
In addition to her mother, those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Melissa Doyle (Matthew), of Unicoi, and Terisa Simerly, of Jonesborough; three sons, Michael Woodby, Dusty Woodby and Wesley Woodby, all of Elizabethton; two adopted sons, Thomas Bowling, of Elizabethton, and Brandon Bowling (Jodi), of Fall Branch; four grandchildren, Ashly Jones, Andrew Jones, Timothy Horton and Elizabeth Horton; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Johnson, of Elizabethton, and Junior Johnson, of Hampton; and three sisters, Margaret Whitehead (Arnold), of Roan Mountain, Grace Wagner, of Hampton, and Robin McKinney, of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service for Mrs. Frankie Johnson Woodby will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, in the Johnson Family Cemetery on Mill Pond Road with Pastor Charles McKinney officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
