    Notes:

    Viola J. Roark, age 87, 667 Hampton Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Monday, September 15, 2003 at Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville, NC following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late John and Daisy Birchfield Johnson. She was a member of Grays Chapel Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and a member of Order of Eastern Star Hampton Chapter #470.

    Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Walter D. Roark, of the home, two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Mary and Bernard Brengard, Asheville, NC, Mrs. Margaret and George Hegler, Lancaster, SC, three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Gail Roark, Lincolnton, NC, Johnie and Burma Roark, Claremont, NC, Lonnie and Judy Roark, Mooresville, NC, two sisters, Ora Toney, Richmond, VA, Creola Gentry, Richmond, VA, one brother, Paul Johnson, Roan Mountain, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain with Mr. Thom Burleson officiating. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, at Johnson Roan View Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey McKinney, Frank Presnell, Roger Palmer, Donnie Holdren, friends and neighbors. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Thursday.

    Viola married Walter D. Roark about 1936 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Walter (son of Lon Boston Roark and Floy C. Rash) was born on 21 Jun 1913 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 12 Jul 2011 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Johnson Roan View Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.     Notes:

    Lonnie Roark, age 70, of Mooresville, North Carolina, went home to be with his Lord and his beautiful wife Judy, on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, North Carolina. Lonnie was born on February 18, 1946 to the late Walter and Viola Johnson Roark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Hitechew Roark; and one brother, David Roark.

    Lonnie retired as a quality control manager and was a United States Marine veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed hot rod cars, gardening, and reading and studying the Bible. Lonnie was a loving, gentle faithful man, who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Adam Roark and wife Patty, of Mooresville, NC; his daughter, Carrie Roark-Whited and husband Billy, of Catawba, NC; a granddaughter, Jaden Roark, of Mooresville, NC; one step granddaughter, Zoey Baumgardner, of Mooresville, NC; two step grandsons, Corey and Cody Whitehead, both of Mooresville, NC; one step great grandchild, Brody Allen Whitehead, of Mooresville, NC; two sisters, Mary Brengard, of NV and Marge Heglar and husband George, of Lancaster, SC; one brother, Jonnie Roark and wife Burma, of Clairemont, NC; a special niece, Kathy Heaton, of Roan Mountain, TN; and a special friend, "Murphy". Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Lonnie Roark will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the Rhododendron Chapel at Tetrick Funeral Home of Roan Mountain with Rev. Tommy Burleson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday; or at the residence of his niece, Kathy Heaton and husband Rick, at any time.

    The graveside service will follow in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Rick Heaton, Rob Dugger, Correy Dugger, Darrell Hitechew, Joe Hitechew and Robby Holderfield.
