He was the son of the late Eli and Bertha Brumit Trivett. Mr. Trivett was also preceded in death by two wives, Orlia Trivett and Ilene Campbell Trivett; one brother, Elbert Trivett and four sisters, Nell Melenson, Ethel Trivett, Maude Trivett and Ella Mae Gee.

Mr. Trivett was retired from the military as a Chief Master Sargeant with the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of service. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Mr. Trivett was a member, former deacon and choir member of the Grace Baptist Church, Elizabethton. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2003 in the Grace Baptist Church.

Graveside services and interment were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Mr. Eli Trivett, Jr. 83 of Earle Street, Thomson, GA died Friday, February 13, 2009 at Doctors Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ruth Tester Trivett.

Mr. Trivett was a native of Washington County, Tennessee but lived in McDuffie County most of his life. He was the son of the late Eli Trivett, Sr. and the late Bertha Brumit Trivett. Mr. Trivett served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet during WW II and was retired as a textile worker from Kingsley Mill after 38 years of service. He served as a volunteer fireman for the McDuffie County Fire Department for over 30 years and served as former Chief of the Washington Heights Fire Department. Mr. Trivett was also a charter member of Washington Heights Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2 o'clock p.m. at the Washington Heights Baptist Church with Revs. Sonny Peevy and Reginald Blakewood officiating. Interment will follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be members of the McDuffie County Fire Department.

The beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Carolyn Sue Slimp went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2015 in the Hillview Health Center.
Mrs. Slimp grew up in Hampton in a large loving family the daughter of Hazen "Dud" Brumitt and Odra Edwards Brumitt. At eighteen, she married the love of her life Jack Slimp. During their 56 year marriage, they traveled the world and lived in Germany and 16 years in Alaska.
Mrs. Slimp was a licensed optician for thirty-one years and retired from Johnson City Eye Clinic. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, singing and dancing, and, while in Alaska, snow skiing with her boys.
Sue was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church, the church she attended as a child.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four sisters: Pauline Young, Lola Cooner, Jean Leonard, and Grace Ann Hathaway. She will be missed and her memory cherished by her family and friends.
Survivors include her loving husband Jack Slimp of the home; three sons: Anthony Slimp, San Diego, CA; Timothy Slimp and his wife Rosemary, Johnson City; Terrance Slimp, Anchorage, Alaska. Seven grandchildren: Joshua Slimp, Thomas Slimp, April and Bryan Wiles, Tyler Slimp, Timothy Fowler, Matthew Fowler, and Carrie Ann Fowler; three great grandchildren: Evan Hilton, Trinity Slimp, and Trey Slimp; a brother Terry Brumitt and wife Becky, and a sister Bobbie Brumitt Crockett and husband Jim and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her dear cousin Emma Rastall and close friend Joann McKinney.
Special thanks to the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Hillview Health Center and David Brumitt, her nephew, who lovingly made sure she got the best of care.
A celebration of Mrs. Slimp's life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1:00-2:00 PM on Sunday prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Butler Memorial Cemetary.
Active pallbearers are Tim Slimp, Tyler Slimp, Terry Brumitt, David Brumitt, Jason Brumitt, Jim Crockett, Rick Hathaway. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Slimp, Terry Slimp, Joshua Slimp, Tommy Slimp, Wade Slimp, Billy Malone and David Crockett.

JONESBOROUGH - Betty Jean Brumit Barnes Bowers, 91, Jonesborough, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at NHC Healthcare, Johnson City.

Betty was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Ruby Meredith Brumit.

Betty was of Methodist faith and attended Piney Flats United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of King Business College. After college she became an Executive Secretary for the Navy.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, George Newton Barnes II, second husband, Herman J. Bowers, brother, Carroll “Bo” Reece Brumit.

Survivors include her son, George Bowers; brother, Edward H. “Buddy” Brumit.

It was Betty’s wish to be cremated. There will be a graveside service and inurnment on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Johnson City.

ELIZABETHTON - Barbara Rose Bristol Hampton, 83, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2019 in the Hermitage Health Care.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Harris Bristol, Sr. & Margaret Bishop Bristol. She was a 1954 graduate of Elizabethton High School, attended East Tennessee State University where she was involved in the ROTC Department. She was Secretary to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, following that she served in the US Embassy in London for 2 years and also NATO in Paris for three years. Returning to Elizabethton she received her Master's Degree in Education in 1963. She taught Reading in Atlanta and Bristol. She was a member of the GFWC Elizabethton Women's Club. Barbara enjoyed her yearly shopping trips to Pigeon Forge with friends and family. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She had been involved with the Food for the Multitude and Care & Share.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David Henry "D.H." Hampton, Sr, August 21, 2019 and by a brother Harris Bristol, Jr.

Survivors include her step-sons: Edward Hampton & wife Teresa Collins and David Hampton Jr & wife Deborah Hughes Hampton. Her Step Grandchildren: Elizabeth Hampton Davis, Chris Davis, Jonathan Hampton and David Hampton III. Her Great Grandchildren: Jack Davis, Thomas Davis and Benjamin Davis. A Brother: Kenneth Bristol & wife Jody. Her Sister-In-Law; Betty Bristol. Her Niece: Lisa (Nick) Botts and nephews: Larry (Amanda) Bristol and Greg (Layla) Bristol. Her Aunt: Gertrude Bishop, several cousins and great nieces & nephews also survive

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Father Timothy Holder officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2019 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Hermitage Health Center and her care givers: Teresa Hayes, Jackie Bowers and Zdenka Ingram.
