    ELIZABETHTON - Mary "Ruby" Caraway, 86, Elizabethton, passed away Monday Feb 6, 2017 at Sycamore Shoals. She was born in Carter County to the late Henry and Destie Blackwell. She was preceded in death by her husband Elzy, daughters Patricia Carr and Beverly Redepenning, brothers Coeburn, Claude, Elmer, JL and CJ Blackwell, sisters Goldie Pierce, Virgina Potter and Opie Osborne, granddaughter Dawn Rietman.

    She is survived by sister Edith Duckworth, daughters Wanda Stines and Kim Honeycutt, son in laws James Carr, Robert Cox and Kelly Honeycutt, sister in laws Lola (Rob) Cox, Thelma, Ginny, Joan Blackwell and Betty Jo Choucalas. Grandchildren Kevin (Kim) Gotch, Paula Rietman, Brandy May, David Redepenning, Jena Stines, Grant, Lucas (Holli) Honeycutt. Great Grandchildren Dawn May and Ashton Stines. Several nieces and nephews.

    Ruby was a graduate of Cloudland High School and worked for ARA services at Levi's and for the Carter County Court Clerk's office. She was a member of Elizabethton church of Christ. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling with friends and being with her family.

    The family wishes to thank her caretakers Jan Stafford and Lee Garland, the physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists at SSH PCU unit for their compassionate care.

    Her wish was to be cremated. Visitation services will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel Sunday Feb 12th from 1 to 3 p.m. Service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Roby Ellis officiating.

    ELIZABETHTON - John Love "J.L." Blackwell, 81, Elizabethton, passed away at Hillview Health Care on Thursday, July 21, 2016. He was a native of Carter County, a son of the late Henry and Destie Johnson Blackwell. He was also preceded in death by a Daughter, Judy Blackwell; Sisters: Glodie Blackwell Pierce, Virginia Potter & Opie Osborne; Brothers: Coeburn Blackwell, Claude Blackwell, Elmer Blackwell and C.J. Blackwell. John worked as a millwright, his hobby was working on yard equipment. John was a US Air Force veteran, and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ.

    Survivors include his wife of 52 years Thelma Murray Blackwell; three children: Dale Martin & wife Kim, Kingsport, Ed Blackwell and wife Becky, Johnson City, Ted Blackwell of the home. Two Grandchildren: Summer Morton and Brandi Blackwell, one Great Grandchild Kellsie Hicks. Two Sisters: Ruby Blackwell Canaway, Elizabethton and Edith Blackwell Duckworth, Oak Ridge. Several Nieces and Nephews.

    The service for Mr. Blackwell will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 in the Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Glen Layfield officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Music will be by the Johnson Family. Military Honors will be by the Carter County Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nephews. The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Judy Little for her loving care for always being there for the family, Doctors and Staff of the Virginia Hospital. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Big Springs Church of Christ. There will be a private family interment at a later date.

    ELIZABETHTON — C.J. Blackwell, age 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 25, 2016, from his residence, following a brief illness.

    C.J. was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Henry and Destie Johnson Blackwell.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Goldie Pierce, Virginia Potter and Opie Osborne; and three brothers, Coburn Jack Blackwell, Claude Blackwell and Elmer Blackwell.

    C.J. had been employed as a millwright and was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church of Johnson City. He had a love of music that had endured throughout his life and was an avid Tennessee Vols fan, especially Peyton Manning. He was a "rock hound" and enjoyed playing and singing, and shared his love for music by singing Gospel music in churches and nursing homes.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 16 years, Virginia "Ginny" Whaley Blackwell, of the home; two sisters, Ruby Caraway, of Elizabethton and Edith Duckworth, of Oak Ridge, TN; and a brother, J.L. Blackwell, of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews, also survive.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of C.J. Blackwell will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2016, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Charlie Biggs and Rev. Roy Yelton, officiating. Music will be provided by GInny Blackwell and Seth Montgomery.

    The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday; or at either the home residence or the residence of his brother, J.L. Blackwell, at any time.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 29, 2016, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Eddie Blackwell, Teddy Blackwell, Carson Biggs, Rob Carr, Scott Knight, Seth Montgomery, Jeff Allison, and Dewey Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church and Reverend Kenneth Jones.

    ELIZABETHTON - Joann "Pnut" Perkins, 83, 276 Sunrise Drive, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord Monday, September 2, at The Hospice House in Bristol, TN.

    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Andy J. Nidiffer and Josephine Nave Nidiffer. Joann was a graduate of Unaka High School and attended Steed College in Johnson City. Joann began working in the local banking industry at a young age, holding various positions at Carter County Bank, Citizens Bank, then serving as Executive Vice President at Watauga Valley Bank. After banking she worked in various roles in different industries then retired from Carter County Highway Department, where she assisted in the office when her husband Jack served as Superintendent.

    Joann was a faithful and active member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church where she participated as a member of the choir, food committee, and visited those who were sick or unable to attend. She was a Sunday School teacher, Children's Choir Director, and member of the Adult Choir at the church where she grew up. She was also an active member of the Carter County Republican Party where she served as Secretary for multiple years. She was voted Republican of The Year in 2018.

    Joann dearly loved her church family. During her illness, attending church is what she missed the most. She was always witty, hopeful, and positive even in her darkest hours. "Tomorrow will be better" she would always consistently say. Tomorrow has come. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

    In addition to her parents Joann was preceded in death by her husband Jack Perkins, brother Wheeler (Jay) Nidiffer, sister Kathryn Collins, Brother Isaac (Link) Nidiffer, and brother-in-law Earl Collins. Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters-in-law Katie Nidiffer and Carolyn Nidiffer both of Elizabethton; niece Katrina Nidiffer of Nashville; nephew Toby (Carol) Nidiffer, great nephew Andrew (Alyssa) Nidiffer, and great niece Kerri Nidiffer all of Marietta, GA; special cousin Jan Showalter, Johnson City. Many cousins, extended family, and special friends also survive.

    Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 4, from 5 to 7 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel, followed by a celebration of life service with Rev. Mark Fowler and Rev. Bobby Stout officiating and music provided by Greg Ruston, Katrina Nidiffer, and Tawana Holland. Graveside service will be on Thursday, September 5, at 11am at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

    Active Pallbearers will be Junior Stanley, Alex Campbell, Clarence Reed, Larry Vaughn, Jr., Richard Thompson, Tony Bowers, Andrew Nidiffer, and Hugh Buckles.     David was born in Carter County to the late Coburn Jack Blackwell and Pauline Blackwell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Billie Troutman.

    David was the owner and operator of Elizabethton Glass Company and was a member of High Point Baptist Church. He was an antique car enthusiast and loved being at work. David loved helping others and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Cole.

    Those left to cherish David's memory include his wife, Wilma Street Blackwell, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Tabitha Blackwell, of Elizabethton; one grandson, Cole "Horse" Blackwell, of Elizabethton; two brothers, Jack Blackwell and wife Patsy and Bobby Blackwell and wife Brenda, all of Roan Mountain; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of David H. Blackwell will be conducted at 1:30 PM on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Greg Key, minister, officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    ELIZABETHTON - Dicky James Blackwell, 80, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022 at his residence after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Claude Burns & Lucy Julian Blackwell. Dicky served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired as a welder and pipe fitter. In later years he was associated with his wife, Robin, in the operation of the Corner Nest. Dicky was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238 for 48 years, the Elizabethton Chapter Order of Eastern Star, The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)and The Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He was a member of the Jericho Oriental Band for 48 years and he was a past President of the SASOBA Oriental Band. He was an avid UT Football fan, loved to cook and work in his garden. He was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Ronnie Blackwell.
    Survivors include his wife: Robin Bulla Blackwell. Two Daughters: Regina (Brad) Shepherd and D’Jae Blackwell. A Step-daughter: Lana (Seth) Snyder. A Grandson: Luke Shepherd. Step-Grandchildren: Carson Atkinson, Cooper Snyder and Collin Snyder. Two Sisters; Jeanie Johnson and Barbara McKinney. One Brother: Gary Blackwell.
    Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Kyler Burchfield of Dashiell Masonic Lodge officiating.
    Interment will follow the graveside service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Bodies and friends of Corner Nest.

    ELIZABETHTON - Roger Dale Pierce, 73, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022 in the Johnson City Medical Center, after a short illness with his family by his side. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ellis & Goldie Blackwell Pierce. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. Roger served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. Roger worked as a welder and millwright and retired from Daniels Construction at Eastman. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a generous, gifted and loving brother and friend. He was a wonderful husband always aspiring to care for Debbie. Roger was a member of First Christian Church and was a devoted student of the word of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws: Mary and Eugene Bowers.

    Survivors include his wife: Debbie Bowers Pierce, His Brothers: Terry (Barbara) Pierce and Bruce (Mary) Pierce. The family would like to thank those at Franklin-Woods and the Johnson City Medical Center for the care Roger received.

    It was Roger’s request that there be no services.
