    ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Kathleen Ritchie Bowers, 97, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

    She was born in Carter County and was the daughter of the late David E. and Belle Murray Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Bowers, on July 28, 2006; four brothers, Ralph Ritchie, Roscoe Ritchie, Ted Ritchie, Elbert Ritchie; and three sisters, Pauline Ritchie, Helen Kate Payne and Lucille Ritchie.

    Mrs. Bowers was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She held offices, served the church and the community in other capacities, and was a faithful member of many organizations including the Elizabethton Women's Club, FCE (Home Demonstration Club) and the Carter County Republican Women's Club.

    She was retired from the Head Start Program of the Carter County School System.

    She is survived by a daughter, Carla Bowers Cox and her husband, Bob, of Knoxville, TN; a granddaughter, Tiffany Gardner and her husband, Scott, Knoxville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Madison Gardner and Johnathon Gardner, both of Knoxville, TN; a brother Sam Q. Ritchie and his wife, Ruth, of Elizabethton; and a sister, Emma Jean Roddy, also of Elizabethton.

    The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bowers will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton, with members of her family joining together to celebrate her life. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds, organist.

    The family will greet those in attendance in the parlor of the church following the memorial service. The family will also welcome visitors from 2:00-4:00 PM on Friday, December 3, 2010, in the Fireside Room of Tetrick Funeral Home.

    A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 4, 2010, in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery, Blue Springs Community. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Mann, Richard Grindstaff, Jim Sharp, Richard Hardin, Dude LaPorte, Dr. Joseph May, Dr. Floyd Earl May, Dr. David May and Dr. Stephen May.

    Kathleen married Carl M. Bowers about 1933 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Carl (son of Alfred B.     ELIZABETHTON - Sam Q. Ritchie, age 91, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tennessee.

    Sam was born in Carter County on September 30, 1926 to the late D.E. Ritchie and Belle Murray Ritchie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings.

    Sam graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1945 and then attended Steed College. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II.

    Sam received his pilot's license at the age of 58 and was the former owner and operator of Sam Q's Restaurant in Elizabethton. He had also worked with his brother at Ritchie's Furniture.

    Sam was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, was a former member of the Carter County School Board, a former member of the Carter County Election Commission, a former member of the Jaycees and loved football and flying.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 69 years, Ruth Bryson Ritchie, of the home; his son, Sam Q. Ritchie, II, of Elizabethton; and his grandson, Nikolas Ritchie and wife Savannah, of Chicago, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive, including two special nieces, Carla Cox and Margo Bentley.

    A service to celebrate the life of Sam Q. Ritchie will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton with Reverend Raymond Amos, Sr., officiating. Music will be under the direction of the First United Methodist Church Choir, Tyler Fleming and David Arney. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church, prior to the service on Friday; or at his residence at other times.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be the men of First United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Mann, Norman Simerly, Jeff Kyte, and Jim Hyder.

    HOBBS, N.M. — James Calvin Ritchie, 90, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, in Hobbs. Jim, born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on November 12, 1932, is the second son of Nannie Josephine and Harry Roscoe Ritchie. Following a family move to Kingsport, Tenn., he attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and joined the Navy with training at Great Lakes Naval Base. Upon leaving military duty, he attended East Tennessee State University where he began work with the campus radio station, which marked his lifelong interest in broadcast media and journalism. After relocating to Texas, Jim became the owner/editor of the Celina Record and the Frisco Enterprise and became an avid photographer. He was known for his quirky sense of humor, love of family, and his passionate Christian faith. Jim enjoyed weekly fellowship with his Tuesday morning coffee buddies and Wednesday morning breakfast group. He loved to play board games with friends and solitaire at bedtime. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marie Ritchie; his brothers, Ros Ritchie and Kim Ritchie; his sister, Cassandra Forth; and his children, Sheryl Shepherd, Brent Ritchie, Kimberly Ritchie Diaz, Scott Ritchie, Stacey Kluthe, Blaik Ritchie, Chase Galanakis, Kathryn Trammell and Zachary Ritchie. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Bill Petree and Jana Nelson. He was a proud grandparent to 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    James Wayne "Jimmy" Ritchie, 63, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, Jimmy was the son of the late Teddy Glen and Selma Bellamy Ritchie.
    Although not able to serve in his country's armed forces, Jimmy was a true patriot at heart. He was an honorary member of the P.O.W. and the American Legion Watauga Post #49 where he loved attending meetings with his friends. He was also an avid flag collector. Jimmy was a Vexillogist (the study of flags) and was a member of the North American Vexillological Association. He attended Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene.
    In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, David Ritchie; sisters, Wilma Bennett and Glenita Ritchie; a sister-in-law, Sharon Tolliver Ritchie; brothers-in-law, Ray White and Buddy Bennett; nieces, Heather Ann Ritchie and Amber Lee Ritchie; and nephews, Brian Ritchie and Paul Julian Jr.
    He is survived by three brothers, William Glen Ritchie and wife, Joyce, of both Florida and Ohio, Teddy J. Ritchie of Dandridge, Tenn., and Randy E. Ritchie and wife, Nell, of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Patsy Ritchie Depp and husband, Joel, of Louisville, Ky., Barbara Carlock and husband, Bill, of Apison, Tenn., and Linda Ruth White of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Jennie Ritchie of Elizabethton; special cousins, Margo Bentley, Marcella Shoun, Larry Gobble and R.L. Gobble, all of Elizabethton; and special friends, Rhonda Gorley of Kingsport, Lelia Perry of Bluff City, William Carrier of Elizabethton and his many friends at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many additional cousins also survive.
    A Celebration of Life service for Jimmy Ritchie will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene, 200 W. I Street, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Kenley Knight and Mack Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from noon until 2 p.m., prior to the service. Private disposition will take place at Happy Valley Memorial Park
