    JOHNSON CITY - Jack Rumbley Dempsey, 86, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

    Mr. Dempsey was born in Elizabethton, a son of the late William "Bill" and Viola Rumbley Dempsey.
    Mr. Dempsey graduated from Mary Hughes High School in 1953, before going on to serve in the National Guard and the U. S. Army. Afterward he worked and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 43 years of service.

    He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Piney Flats for over 50 years. Mr. Dempsey was also a member of East Unaka Christian Church, servicing as assistant Sunday School superintendent, president of win a couples class, deacon, and elder. He enjoyed camping, NASCAR, and model railroading.
    Mr. Dempsey is preceded in death by: one sister, Berniece Tipton; and two brothers, Guy Dempsey and Verlin Dempsey.

    Those left to cherish his memory include: his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Faye Elizabeth Dempsey; daughter, Debra Mae Chandler and her husband Doctor Paul Chandler, of Florence, SC; two grandchildren, Joshua Paul Chandler and his wife Maryse, and Ashley Elizabeth Marsh and her husband Jesse; three great grandchildren, Jack Gaylon Chandler, Cora Diane Chandler, and Abigail Elizabeth Marsh; one brother, Bob Dempsey and his wife Debbie of Nashville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

    The family of Jack Dempsey will receive friends on Saturday, December 21 , 2019, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM, officiated by Doctor Wayne Emory. A committal service will be held the following day on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at 3:00 PM at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

    JOHNSON CITY - Faye Elizabeth King Dempsey, 86, of Johnson City, passed away on March 16, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
    She was born in Tazewell, Virginia, a daughter of the late Calvin and Nora Byington King.
    Mrs. Dempsey graduated from Bluff City High School in 1953. She went on to work and retire from the Johnson City Power Board after 31 years of service as a system operator.
    She was a member of East Unaka Christian Church. Mrs. Dempsey had a deep love for her Lord Jesus Christ, the outdoors, and spending time with her precious family.
    She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Jack R. Dempsey; brothers, Neil king and A. L. King; and sister, Frances Morrell.
    Those left to cherish her memory include: daughter, Debra Mae Chandler and her husband, Dr. Paul Chandler, of Florence, SC; two grandchildren, Joshua Paul Chandler and his wife Maryse, Ashley Elizabeth Marsh and her husband Jesse; four great grandchildren, Jack Gaylon Chandler, Cora Diane Chandler, Abigail Elizabeth Marsh, and David Joseph Marsh; and several special nieces and nephews.
    The family of Mrs. Dempsey will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Monday, March 21, 2022, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Dr. Wayne Emory. After the service, those attending will go in procession at 1:45 PM to Monte Vista Memorial Park for a committal service at 2:00 PM.
    Pallbearers will be Josh Chandler, Jimmy Dempsey, Kevin King, Justin King, Jared King, and David Tipton.

    ELIZABETHTON - Dorothy “Dot” C. Little, age 93, of Elizabethton passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Mrs. Little was born in Sullivan County, TN, but lived most of her life in Carter County, TN. She was the daughter of the late Mitchell P. Carr and Sula M. Dempsey Carr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Emory L. “Jack” Little on November 22, 2020 and by her brother and two sisters. Mrs. Little was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Berdell Little (Ann). Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Mark Newman officiating.

    Lewis Edwin Buckles, age 90, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from the Bristol Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. Lewis was born in Bluff City, Tennessee on February 28, 1926 to the late Emmett and Oda Dempsey Buckles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Verna Riffey; and one brother, Bill Buckles.

    Lewis retired as an electrician, and had also worked as a farmer and was a small business owner. He had been a member of Poplar Ridge Christian Church for over 60 years. Lewis was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Bluff City VFW Post # 9629, a 50 year member of M.M. Martin Masonic Lodge #547 and he was a past worshipful master of M.M. Martin Masonic Lodge #547 in 1962. He was a charter member of the Piney Flats Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of the Piney Flats Ruritan Club. He loved to farm and spend time with his grandson.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Delores Willis Buckles, of the home; one son, Keith Buckles and wife Betty, of Lenoir City, TN; one daughter, Tammie Green and husband Steve, of Piney Flats; one grandson, Jeremy Lewis Buckles and wife Kelsey, of Lenoir City, TN; one brother, Jim Buckles, of Bluff City; four sisters, Jewel Buchanan, of Bristol, TN, Jean Owens, of Bluff City, TN, Shirley Reedy, of Piney Flats, TN, and Linda Uzell, Alpharetta, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Lewis Edwin Buckles will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Tetrick Funeral Home – Bluff City Chapel with Mr. Brad Perry and Mr. Evan Wolfe, ministers, officiating. There will be a Masonic Service, to follow the funeral service. Music will be provided by MaKenzee and MaKayla Lady. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in the Poplar Ridge Christian Church Cemetery in Piney Flats, Tennessee. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Honor Guard of Bristol. Active pallbearers will be Jim Perkins, Rick Buckles, Teddy Johnson, Gene Booher, Bob Allen, Andy Burke and Kyle Tester. Honorary pallbearers will be Haskell King, Tom Hale, Johnny Miller, the Elders and Deacons of Poplar Ridge Christian Church, the Steve Lady family, and Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 AM on Wednesday.

    Mr. Fair was born in Johnson City to the late Clarence C. and Queen E. Dempsey Fair.

    He worked over 30 years at A. O. Smith Water Products Company.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Fair was preceded in death by one niece, Christy Carver.

    Survivors include: one sister, Agnes L. Carver; nephews, Tony Carver and his fiancé Mistee and Randy Carver and his wife Crystal; several great and great, great nieces and nephews; and all the ladies and IHOP and A. O. Smith.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Agape Nursing & Rehab for their care.

    The family of Mr. Fair will receive friends from 1 PM – 2 PM Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Morris-Baker. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM. A committal service will immediately follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

    Harley was born on November 8, 1937 to Harley Sr. and Stella Carrier.

    He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bernice Carrier, sons: Jeff Carrier, Mark Carrier (Sarah), Tim Carrier (Carolyn), Chris Carrier (Donna); Grandchildren: Courtney Massey (James), Ethan Carrier, Ivy Carrier, Jacob Carrier, Clayton Carrier (Kayla), Laura Carrier, Cole Carrier; Step-grandchildren: Allister Hawkins (Danielle), Cliff Hawkins, Evan Allie (Adam); he was also looking forward to the arrival of his first Great-grandchild in October, Mother-in-law, Annie Haga (his sweetheart), Sisters: Doris Sutton, Elouise Jefferson (Henry); Brother, William "Pete" Carrier (Sharon), Sisters-in-law: Mary Melvin, Martha Feathers, Several nieces and nephews.

    Harley started working at a young age, beginning at age 9 with a paper route with the Bristol Herald Courier that continued for 10 years. He retired from the Sullivan County School Department after 28 years. He continued to work for them another 4 years on various projects, for a total of 32 years of service. Harley was a current member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church. He was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Bluff City Baptist Church. His hobbies included antiquing and taking road trips. Harley loved working with his hands and volunteering his time to help others.

    We would like to express our appreciation to the nurses, doctors, and staff in the ICU at Holston Valley Hospital for their compassionate care. Also, Dr. Bruce Vincent for his help during this time.

    Visitation will be from 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 26, 2018 until a Celebration of Harley's Life at 7:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Allen Davis officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday at New Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Piney Flats. Pallbearers are grandsons, nephews and James Massey. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of Piney Flats First Baptist Church. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery on Sunday by 2:50 pm.
