    Mrs. Virgie V. Matherly, 91, of Briemer Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
    Mrs. Matherly was a native of Vale, N.C., and a daughter of the late Isaac B. and Nancy J. Hartley Waycaster. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Roan Street Church of God. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James L. Smith, in 1938; by her second husband, Bate
    Matherly in 1982; by two brothers, Ted Waycaster and Dan Waycaster; by six sisters, Mattie Waycaster, Mamie Simerly, Irene Stewart, Florence Garland, Ella Deloach and Gertrude Rodgers.
    Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Ann James, Gray; Phyllis Mottern and Debby and Johnny Range, all of Elizabethton;
    three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Carole Smith, Elizabethton, Buddy and Nancy Smith, Wilson, N.C., James and Christine Smith,
    Elizabethton; two sisters, Juanita Timberlake, Maryland, and Betty Payne, Hampton; four grandsons, Dr. Gary James, Gray, Todd Smith, Hampton, Jonathan Range and Jason Range, both of Elizabethton; six granddaughters,
    Ramona Houston, Gray, Jamie Wilson, Johnson City, Robin Mottern, Blowing Rock, N.C., Sharon Eggers, Kim Oliver and Kristy Vines, all of Elizabethton; five great-grandsons, seven great-granddaughters, and several nieces and
    nephews.
    Funeral services for Mrs. Virgie V. Matherly will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the Roan Street Church of God with Rev. Ken Bewley and Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Music will be by family members.
    Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Range, Jason Range, Jearld Oliver, Jody Vines and David
    Houston.

    On May 16, 2016, Betty Jean Waycaster Payne, 85, of Hampton, left this world to gather in another. There she will meet her husband of 45 years, Jack H. Payne; her beloved granddaughter, Kathie Jean Wilson and her Jesus; her parents, Bence and Jane Waycaster; seven sisters, Gertrude, Ella, Virgie, Mattie, Mamie, Irene and Florence; and two brothers, Daniel and Theodore Waycaster.
    Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sandra Montgomery and husband Carl, and her youngest, Jackie Honeycutt; two grandchildren, Kristy Phillips and Jason Phillips; two great-grandsons, C.J. Wilson and Samuel Phillips; and one sister, Juanita Timberlake, of Maryland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    Mrs. Payne was retired from Hampton Elementary School as a cook. Her great-grandson, Samuel, named her "Betty the Great," and she truly was!
    A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Betty Jean Waycaster Payne will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Active pallbearers will be Todd Montgomery, Carl Montgomery, Cheyenne LaMarche, Jason Phillips, Stan Wilson and Joe Greenwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Deloach, Bill Lancaster, Bobby Smith, Bud Smith, Glen Ray Simerly and Jimmy Smith

    ELIZABETHTON - Kathleen Ora Simerly Grindstaff, 87, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday June 20, 2018 in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Rady & Mamie Waycaster Simerly. Kathleen had worked for several years at Felty-Roland Florist, Bachelor Button Florist and Bowers Flowers. She retired from the Carter County School System as a Custodian. She was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 ½ years C.L. Grindstaff, one sister: Nadine Lambert and her brother: Ray Simerly.

    Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law: Keith & Helen Grindstaff, Bristol, Tenn. Her Granddaughters: Holly Briscall & husband Jeremy, and Mia Gardner & husband Michael, all of Bristol. Eight Great Grandchildren. A nephew: Steve Hyder, Johnson City. Her God Daughters: Ginger Deloach & husband Tony, Heather Hopland & husband Kenny all of Elizabethton and Curry Deloach, Johnson City.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Siebenaler, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Elders & Deacons of Valley Forge Christian Church. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Staff of Life Care Center for the excellent care she received during her illness.

    Jack W. Deloach, 77, Chuckey, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012, in the Four Oaks Health Care Center, Jonesborough.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Tom W. and Ella Waycaster Deloach. He had lived in Chuckey for a number of years. He was a 1953 graduate of Hampton High School. He was a retired employee of Brown's Supermarket after 47 years of service. Mr. Deloach was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church.

    Survivors include Two Daughters: Sarah Diane Hall and Sherry Dawn Deloach, both of Chuckey; Four Grandchildren: Melanie Shomate, Jeremy Hall, Jessica Cherri Deloach and Cody Lee Crain; Two Great Grandchildren: Tyler Shomate and Alexia Lee Roulette; One Brother & Sister-in-Law: Tom & Bernice Deloach, Elizabethton; The Mother of his Children: Cindy Deloach, Chuckey; Two Nieces: Glynis Tilley and Brenda Stamey; One Nephew: Thomas Deloach; His Special Friends: David Smith, Kathy Proffitt, Judge Lynn Brown and Sutton Brown.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Elmer Gobble officiating.

    Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Carr Family. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Friday, will be: Joe Guinn, Earl Gentry, Jeff Hall, Jeremy Hall, Richard Felts and Dusty Bradley.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Thomas Weedman & Norma Ella Waycaster Deloach. He served 23 years in the United States Air Force, and was one of the first sentry dog trainers. He was also retired from the Budd Company. Thomas was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge # 750 and the Hampton First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He loved fishing, animals, family, friends and laughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Jack Weedman Deloach.

    Survivors include his wife of 37 years: Bernice Clawson Deloach. His Children: Glynis & Lee Tilley, Jr., Maryville, Tenn., Tom & Raquel Deloach, Morgantown, West Virginia, Janice & Earl Gentry, Elizabethton, Brenda & David Stamey, Pennington Gap, Virginia, Virginia & Sandy Bradley, Elizabethton, Joe & Debbie Guinn, Elizabethton. 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and lots of loved nieces & nephews.

    Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2019 in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, South Carolina. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Thursday will be: Lee Tilley, Jr., Earl Gentry, Joe Guinn, Tom Deloach, Earl McKinney and Bobby Collins. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bill Estep, Randy Miller, Royce Gentry, Sandy Bradley, Andy White, Kayo Gentry and members of the Hampton Masonic Lodge # 750.

    Survivors: children, Debbie Hutcherson and husband Rodney, Donna Rudolph and husband John, Diana Morrison and husband Guy and William Carrier and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Rachel Korostynski, Chris Hartley, Lindsay Murphy, Jason Rudolph, Jimmy Hartley, LeeAnne Poore, Christina Douglas, Alex Carrier, Emily Sypher and Amy Carrier; siblings, Donald Waycaster, Sue Cundiff and Jerry Waycaster; as well as 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
    In addition to her parents, her husband of 41 years, William Carrier, and her brother, Paul Waycaster, preceded her in death.
    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, at Saint Pauls Reformed Church on Startown Road with Pastor Rob Helton officiating. A private graveside service will be arranged for the family at Harmony Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tenn.
