    HAMPTON - Mr. Vearl Samuel Julian, age 91, of Hampton, died Friday, August 11, 2017 at Hermitage Health Care in Elizabethton.

    He was the last living child of the late Monroe and Hattie Whitehead Julian. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Martha Roberson Julian in 2000; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Wayne Honeycutt; a son-in-law, Perry Bradford; and 15 brothers and sisters.

    Vearl was the oldest living Charter Member and Deacon of Sunset Free Will Baptist Church. He was a 64 year member of the Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 F&AM. He proudly served his country during World War II, having served in the United States Army, 778th Tank Battalion and was present at the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Having left home at an early age to join the Army, he along with several others, were honored in a special ceremony in 2001, where they were presented with their high school diploma. He never met a stranger, could always come up with a wise ole' saying and was quick to tell you of his Army travels, his love for his family and the Lord. He was a truck driver for TVA for 33 years and retired in 1988 to travel the country with Martha to multiple gospel and bluegrass music festivals in their motorhome.

    Left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Jo Julian; and his daughters and son-in-law, Patsy and Harry "B" Crow of Hampton and Sue Bradford, of Elizabethton; grandchildren: Kristi and Jeff Smith of Hampton, Robin and Lynn Honeycutt, of Elizabethton, Renay and Duane Estep and Greg Honeycutt, of Michigan; great grandchildren: Elijah and Hannah Smith, Masie, Janie and Julianne Honeycutt, Kyle and Julie Estep and Brent and Martha Estep; great grandchildren: Preston, Wyatt and Brennon Estep and awaiting the arrival of Emmalyn Estep.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Vearl Samuel Julian will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, August 14, 2017 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Norman Lovelace and Rev. Frank Woods, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Sunset FWB Church Choir and Hannah Smith. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Monday; or at the residence of his son, at 630 Swimming Pool Road, at any time.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 F&AM. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Elijah Smith, Walter Pierce, Randy Lewis, Cotton Stevens, Richard Roberson, Robin Honeycutt and Duane Estep. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Livingston, Gary Singleton, Leon Humphrey, Johnny Ramsey, Carl Roberson, Ben Stevens, Dave Richards and Floyd Bradford.

    ROAN MOUNTAIN — Ruby Julian Hill, age 84, of Roan Mountain, departed this life on Monday morning, March 28, 2016.

    Ruby was born March 2, 1932, and was a daughter of Monroe and Hattie Whitehead Julian.

    In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles Hill, Jr. on April 4, 1993. She was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

    She was a member of Fork Mountain Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. Ruby was a spoke in the wheel, with her husband, Rev. Charles Hill, Jr., in establishing the Fork Mountain Free Will Baptist Church in the Fork Mountain Community.

    Left to cherish her memory are her son, Grady E. Hill, of Elizabethton; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Darrell Johnson, of Roan Mountain; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Doug Blevins, of Hampton; a brother, Verl Julian; grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Tim and Tammy Johnson, Scotty Johnson, Rev. Ben and Whitney James and Dylan Hill; and great grandchildren, whom she also loved dearly, Miranda Johnson, Mackenzie Johnson and Marlee James.

    The family would to extend a special thank you to her niece, who was like a sister, Beulah Garland, also, Vivian Koster, Sue Bradford, Mozella Whittington, and Jackie Brown; and her special nieces and nephews, along with the Vester Hitechew family, who raised her like a daughter, and her special friends, Dorothy Woodby, Jewel Holtsclaw, Betty Lacey, Linda Honeycutt and Clara Green.

    It was Ruby's request to have a graveside service at Miller Cemetery, located on Fork Mountain Road, at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, with Rev. Ronald Stevens and Rev. Ben James, officiating. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Rick Stanley, Earl Lacey, Jack Whitehead, Shannon Whitehead, Randy Guinn, J.L. Potter, Freddie Julian and Toby Guinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Richard Blevins, Rev. Charlie Trivette, Rev. Henry Berry, Rev. John Stevens, Rev. Randy English, Rev. Marvin Sheets, Rev. Dallas Gregg, Rev. Jeff McKinney, Rev. Terry Richardson, Rev. Rick Birchfield, Clarence Garland, Doug Ingram, Tommy Ingram, Rick Ingram, Mark Birchfield, Fork Mountain Free Will Baptist church members, Bud Smith, Jack's Creek Minister's Conference, and Roan Mountain #566 Masonic Lodge.

    Jonathan Glenn Palmer, 51, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.
    Born March 6, 1968 in Banner Elk, N.C., he had lived his entire life in Carter County.
    Jonathan was a 1986 graduate of Hampton High School and was retired due to disability from the South Elizabethton Utility District. He was of the Baptist Faith. He loved to fish and was an avid UT Vols fan.
    He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Florence Julian, and his paternal grandparents, Bruce and Virginia Palmer.
    Survivors include his parents, Johnny Edward and Mary Elizabeth Julian Palmer; two sisters, Johnna Lynne Palmer Craig and Ashley Palmer; several aunts and uncles; and his special four-legged friend, Sadie.
    Funeral services for Jonathan Glenn Palmer will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dean Presnell and the Rev. Jim Perkins officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday, will be Jerry Tipton, Casey Gwyn, Michael Dugger, Jim Wiseman, Kenny Andrews, Rodney Payne, Ray Deloach and Jerry Dale Greene. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the South Elizabethton Utility District.
