JOHNSON CITY - Jewell Vaught Collins, 88, Johnson City, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Jewell was born September 14, 1934, and was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Alvin C. and Tishia Howard Vaught.

Jewell was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed working in her yard. She was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church in Johnson City, where she served in various capacities over the years.

In addition to her parents Jewell was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie C. Collins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, David H. Vaught and his wife Trula, and several nieces and nephews.

As per her final wishes, a graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Washington County Memory Gardens with Pastor Pete Tackett, officiating. Active pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends.

MOUNTAIN CITY - Lucy Mink Perone Milhan, age 87, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born on April 25, 1918, in Johnson County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late David and Margaret Vaught Mink. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Ethel Mink LedBetter and Vada Mink Lethco; and four brothers: Ralph Mink, Kelly Mink, Russell Mink and John Mink. Lucy was a member of the Senior Citizens Club and a member of the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Floyd S. Milhan; two daughters: Barbara Bertelin and husband, Tony, of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Joann Owens; one sister, Ella Schipsi and husband, Fred, of Margate, New Jersey; two brothers: David Colonel Mink, of Elizabethton, TN, and Arley Mink, of Mountain City, TN; her beloved grandson, David Bertelin and wife, Debbie; grandchildren: James Owens Jr., Bonnie Owens and Mark Owens; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends: Dove and Odell Guinn; and many other special friends. Funeral Services for Lucy Mink Perone Milhan will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2006, from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ted Lewis, Rev. Rex Johnson and Rev. Shannon Courtner to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church Choir. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. David C. "D.C." Mink, 91, formerly of West F. Street, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late David W. and Maggie Vaught Mink. He had lived in Elizabethton for several years.
David was employed as an appliance repairman at Free Service for several years. He later was self-employed and was also a farmer. He was a member of Locust Gap Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Mink; three sisters, Ethel Ledbetter, Lucy Milhan and Vada Lethcoe; and four brothers. Ralph, R.V., Kelly and John Mink.
Survivors include a step-son, James L. Miller and wife Linda, Hampton; a step-grandson, Jeffery Miller and wife Kellie, Elizabethton; a step-great-grandson, Colin Miller; a brother, Arley Mink, Mountain City; a sister, Ella Schipsi, Margate City, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
As per his request, he is to be cremated and no formal services are planned.

Arley Boone Mink, age 91, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1928 in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late David W. Mink and Margaret Vaught Mink. In addition to his parents, Arley was preceded in death by his first wife Jean Moore Mink and his second wife Edna Mae Lunceford Mink; four sisters and five brothers.

Arley was a member of Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Patrick Mink of Victoria, Australia; and several nieces and nephews. It was Arley's request to be cremated; no visitation or formal service held. His remains will be buried at Shoun's United Methodist Church cemetery.

Joseph W. Hawkins, 96, passed away Monday, January 15th at the Mountain City Care and Rehab Center following hip surgery. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Hazel Vaught Hawkins, brothers, Barton and John Hawkins, nephew David Hawkins, wife Elena Garland Hawkins, 1995, and Ruth Brooks Hawkins, 2012.

He is survived by his son Jody and wife Diane, nephew Doug Hawkins and wife Ann of Mountain City, sister in law Wynell Hawkins, two step daughters, Jeannie Countiss, Mountain City, and Joy Crane and husband Steve of Blountville. He also has ten grandchildren and special grandboys, Rowen and William.

Joe was a Johnson County Commissioner for 20 years, Johnson County Farm Bureau 20 years, TN Farm Bureau State Director 18 years, Vice president TN Farm Bureau for three years and TN Farm Bureau President for nine years.

Joseph was a dairy farmer partnered with his brother Barton. He served on the U.S. Agriculture Burley Tobacco Committee. Joe was a 32nd degree member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge 243 F and AM. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be Friday, January 19th. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 2:00 officiated by Rev. Jim Norman. Graveside service and burial will follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Those wishing to visit may do so at the church or at the home 740 Crackers Neck Road. Pall bearers are Dennis Tester, Doug Hawkins, Blake Atwood, Kevin Birchfield, Jamie Roberts, Wayne Ward, Bob Stanberry and Desi Ward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Barton Allen Hawkins, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born on March 9, 1925, to the late Clyde and Hazel Vaught Hawkins. In addition to his parents, Barton was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Sue Hawkins; and a brother, Johnny Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wynell Pardue Hawkins; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Ann Hawkins; brother, Joe Hawkins; granddaughter, Kisha Wilson; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Barton was a 1944 Graduate of Johnson County High School. Following high school, Barton enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served during World War II.
Following his military career, Barton returned to farming. He was a graduate of the Graham School Cattlemen in Garrett, Kansas; served 12 years as Southeast Division Director of Dairymen, Inc.; served 14 years as Director of American Dairy Association of Tennessee; served 14 years as Director of Food and Nutrition Council of the Appalachian; Former President of the Tennessee Milk Producers Federation; served 4 years as the Director of the National Dairy Council; Delegate to the National Milk Producers Federation.
Barton was a member of the 94th and 95th Tennessee General Assemblies; served 16 years as Director of Soil and Water Conservation of Johnson County; Delegate to the 1970 Tennessee Constitution Convention representing the 4th Legislative District; served 4 years as a Member of the Private Industry Council of Tennessee and Tennessee State Representative from 1985-1988.
Barton was a 32nd Degree Mason and Knight Commander of the Court of Honor; Scottish Rite and Jericho Shriner.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Mountain City Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Private Inurnment will be held later.
