    Barbara Jean Grindstaff Hobson, 97, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019, at Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton.

    Jean Hobson was born April 16, 1921 in Johnson City, TN to Roscoe and Corda Greenlee Grindstaff.

    Barbara Jean graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1939. She was a long-time resident of Northern Virginia working for the Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Agriculture and Department of Commerce, retiring from Civil Service after 34 years. As a statistical analyst, her budget reports were read by other agency heads, Congress members and the President of the United States.

    Barbara Jean was an avid reader and loved to travel. She was active, along with her husband, with the Lions Club in Northern Virginia.

    Barbara Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George Hobson, sister Garnet Moody, brothers Donald Grindstaff and Merle Grindstaff.

    She is survived by a sister Pat Crowder; son, Mike Grindstaff (wife Dixie); step-children, Silvia Wrenn and David Hobson; grandchildren Lora Clark, Rachel Grindstaff, John Grindstaff, and Helen Glasheen; great-grandchildren, Seth, Gavin and Katrina Clark, Hampton Grindstaff and Ivey Glasheen; many beloved nieces and nephews.

    The funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 29, 2019, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Gerald Malcolm, officiating.

    Interment will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Notes:

    William M. "Merle" Grindstaff, 90, joined the Heavenly Host on February 13, 2017 after an extended illness. Born February 8, 1927 he was the only son of William Rosco and Corda Greenlee Grindstaff. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Garnett Moody.

    Survivors include two sisters, Barbara Jean Hobson and Patricia Crowder, both of Johnson City, niece Beverly Britton, seven nephews Mike Grindstaff, Roswell, Marvin and Travis Moody, Steve, Jeff and David Crowder, special care giver Helen "Dixie" Grindstaff and several great nieces and nephews.

    Merle was a lifelong member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church, he was a charter member of the Central Volunteer Fire Department and after 44 years he retired from North American Rayon Corporation. Having grown up during the Great Depression and serving in the US Army during WWII, he saw the hard and difficult times of his generation, from which his ethic for hard work and penchant for savings was developed.

    He grew up working on the farm; gardening and caring for the horses that tended the land alongside him. In spirit of sharing, he enjoyed giving most of the crops of his garden to those in the Central community.

    Merle enjoyed spending time and sharing stories with his special friends…Larry Honeycutt, Pat Smith, Frankie Williams, Roman Holtsclaw, Norman Rowe, Roger Banks, Roy Gene Bailey, Bill Carter, Mike Depriest, Jerry Pearman, Gene Graybeal and many others.

    The family will receive friends on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home from 12:00pm until 1:30pm with a memorial service at 1:30pm in the Oak Chapel under the direction Rev. Garry Edwards. A committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    KENNEWICK, WA - Patricia G. “Pat” Crowder, 88, of Kennewick, WA passed away on March 1, 2020. Patricia was born to the late William R. and Cordia (Greenlee) Grindstaff in Washington County TN.

    Patricia was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church. She was a caring nurse for many years expressing love and care that only she could.

    Patricia graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1949. She went on to attend East Tennessee State College, and worked in the Medical Office of Charles S. Gresham.

    In addition to her parents Patricia was preceded in death by her husband; Gene S. Crowder, brothers; Donald and Merle Grindstaff, sisters; Garnet Moody and Jean Hobson.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her sons; Steve, Jeff and David (Jana) Crowder, grandchildren; Patricia and William Crowder, Reggie and Casey Nichol, along with a niece and several nephews.

    The Crowder family will gather to greet friends and share memories on Wednesday March 11, 2020 at Tetrick Funeral Services from 11AM-12PM. A Funeral Service will follow at 12PM with Rev. Donald Page officiating. A Graveside Service will follow the Funeral at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

    Beverly Ann Moody Britton, 79, of Spring Hill, formerly of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, from complications of a heart attack.

    She was the daughter of Paul and Garnett Moody, born to them on July 26th, 1941, in Steinman, Virginia.

    Beverly was a 1959 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a wonderful Homemaker, Dental Assistant, Caterer and Volunteer to many schools, churches and hospitals. She was an active member at Wellspring Church in Spring Hill, for the past 3 years. Beverly was a member of First Christian Church in Johnson City, for over 40 years, where she was a long-time member of the Win-A-Kuple Sunday School Class. Beverly was very active and had many hobbies. She loved to cook and volunteered and served as a hostess at First Christian Church for many years. As an avid fan of NASCAR, she and her late husband Tom spent many joyous years attending the trophy presentations in Winners Circle at the Bristol Motor Speedway with their great friends Linda Shull and her late husband, Ed. Additionally, Beverly worked as a hostess in the suites at the Bristol Motor Speedway. She also spent many years working at Chick-fil-A as a hostess. She volunteered for Kitchen of Hope in Kingsport, serving meals to the needy and homeless, as well as serving other outreach opportunities. Beverly was always ready to help anyone in need. She was a huge sports fan and loved Major League Baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. Beverly and Tom spent many family vacations attending baseball games.

    In 2018 she relocated to the Nashville area to be closer to her children and grandchildren, which gave them great joy while they created great memories that they will cherish forever. For many years she has frequently enjoyed day trips, traveling and spending time with her great friends Ginger Ison, Carolyn Jeffers and Mike & Rebecca Jackson and family, as well as many other friends.

    In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty years, Charles Thomas Britton, in 2014, and her brother-in-law Johnny Mac Britton.

    Those left to cherish her memory include son Charles Thomas Britton ll (Chuck), of Franklin, TN, daughter Susan Michele Britton, of Smyrna, TN; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Scott Tester, Madison Ann and Kyle Thomas; three brothers, Paul Travis Moody and wife Patsy, Marvin Moody and wife Jill, Roswell Moody and wife Darlene; two brother-in-laws, Robert '' Bob '' Britton, William Michael Britton and wife Pam. Beverly is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and many special friends.

    A memorial service to celebrate the life of Beverly Ann Moody Britton will be held Monday April 5th, 2021, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Dr. Donald Mushayamunda, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends at 5:00 P.M. with the service following at 6:00 P.M.

    The graveside committal service for Beverly will be Tuesday, April 6th, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
