    Roy Lee Troutman Sr., 85, 189 Hwy. 143, Roan Mountain, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton.
    Mr. Troutman was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Hezekiah and Della Heaton Troutman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hughes Troutman, January 28, 1999, a daughter, Dorothy T. Hughes, and a granddaughter, Toni Young Vess.
    Mr. Troutman attended Victory Baptist Church. He was retired as owner/operator of the Phillips 66 Service Station in Roan Mountain.
    Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and C.L. Young, Minneapolis, N.C., Billie and LeRoy Gray, Greeneville, and Ruth Ann and Terry Tipton, Johnson City; a son, Roy Lee Troutman Jr., Roan Mountain; four brothers, Guy Troutman, Hampton, J.L. Troutman and Jack Troutman, both of Roan Mountain, and Ralph Troutman, Elizabethton; and two sisters, Edith Troutman Street and Willie Troutman Barnett, both of Roan Mountain. Six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Jerry Honeycutt and the Rev. Jim McMahan officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home place in the Burbank community. Interment followed the funeral service in the Troutman Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jonathan Gray, Brady Hughes, Allen Hughes, Terry Tipton, Mark Vess and Ray Heaton. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Marlowe, Robbie Stout, Richard Avery, LeRoy Gray and C.L. Young.

    Roy married Ruth Hughes on 27 Dec 1936 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Ruth (daughter of George Washington Hughes and Nora Maggie Gouge) was born on 25 Dec 1919 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 28 Jan 1999 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Forbes Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.     Roy Lee “Tim” Troutman Jr., 60, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2020, at his residence. Roy was born in Banner Elk, N.C., to the late Roy Lee Troutman Sr. and Ruth Hughes Troutman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Troutman Hughes; a niece, Toni Vess; a nephew, Brady Lee Hughes; and a brother-in-law, C.L. Young.
    Roy worked in construction and was a member of First Baptist Church in Roan Mountain. He had earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Art at ETSU and he loved photography.
    Those left to cherish his memory include three sisters, Billie Gray (Leroy) of Greeneville, Patricia Young of Roan Mountain and Ruth Ann Tipton (Terry) of Johnson City; a daughter, Heather Hampton of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews; and his girlfriend, Mary Parker of Roan Mountain and her children and grandchildren.
    A graveside service to honor the life of Roy Lee “Tim” Troutman Jr. will be conducted at noon Monday, January 27, in the Troutman Family Cemetery in the Burbank Community of Roan Mountain with Mr. Allen Hughes officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Harsh, Raymond Thomas and Tony Church.
