    Notes:

    Peggy Garland, age 79, formerly of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2015, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following an extended illness.

    Peggy was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Bernie and Ella Roark McCoury.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby McCoury; and a sister, Margaret Taylor.

    Ms. Garland retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital in Banner Elk, North Carolina, where she worked in food service.

    She was a member of First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain and was a former member of Order of Eastern Star of Roan Mountain.

    She enjoyed both spending time with and taking care of her family and home cooking.

    Survivors include two daughters, Linda Holliday and husband Ron, of Aurora, Colorado, and Marla Riley, of Winder, Georgia; one son, Scott Garland, of Shenandoah, Iowa; four grandchildren, Lyra and Katie Holliday, both of Aurora, Colorado, and Jon and Josh Riley, both of Winder, Georgia; two great grandchildren, Cali and Kendal Riley, both of Winder, Georgia; one sister, Bonnie Odom, Elizabethton; one sister-in-law, Barbara McCoury, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A gathering of remembrance for Ms. Peggy Garland will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2015, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain with Rev. Jerry McCoury, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charlotte Smith.

    There will be a private inurnment service held in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery.
