ELIZABETHTON '96 Ruth Irene Massengill Hendrix Wagner, age 92, 1633 Hillview Drive, Elizabethton, formerly of Bluff City, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at Hermitage Health Center.

A native of Bluff City, she was a daughter of the late George and Margaret Plank Massengill. Mrs. Wagner was a member of Bluff City First Christian Church and a homemaker.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cody Hendrix and second husband, C.J. Wagner, two sisters, Margaret Rudder and Mable Cain, and one son, George Hendrix. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and John Holsclaw, Johnson City, three sisters, Georgie Warren, Bluff City, Edith Quinn, Knoxville, and Betty Ann Morrell, Bluff City. Six grandchildren, Tammy Holsclaw Jones, John Holsclaw, Kim Buckner, Jan Mobly Hendrix, Melony Hendrix; Steven Hendrix; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mrs. Wagner will be held at 8:30 P.M., Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at the Tetrick Funeral Home '97 Bluff City Chapel with minister Roby Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 '97 8:30 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service in the Chapel or at the home of her daughter, Donna, anytime. Georgia Massengill Warren, age 100, of Bluff City passed away peacefully Sunday March 6, 2016 at the home of her daughter Nancy W. Taylor.

Georgia was born November 8, 1915 to George and Margaret Massengill in Bluff City, TN, on Southern Valley Farm. She was one of six girls. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Margaret Massengill, husband Paul A. Warren, daughter; Edith L. Davis, Son-In-Law; Coy Davis, sisters; Irene Wagner, Edith Quinn, Betty Ann Morrell, Mabel Southwick and Margaret Rutter.

She is survived by her daughter; Nancy W. Taylor, Grandchildren; Myers Davis of Schererville, IN, Timothy W. Davis and wife Lee Ann of Johnson City, Gregg A. Taylor and wife Sandra of Clinton, TN and Eric P. Taylor and wife Misti of Bluff City, half sister; Linda Kay Finney of Bluff City, great step granddaughter; Kayla Rushing of Wilmington, NC, great step grandson; Morgan Estes of Oak Ridge, TN, along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was a loving wife to Paul Warren for 49 years, a charter member of First Christian Church of Bluff City and an avid farmer, gardener and substitute teacher. She loved flowers and tended her garden and flower beds till the age of 97. She loved music and singing in the choir at church. At the age of 12, she sang with the Tennessee Mountaineers and the performed on August 2, 1927 at the Bristol Recording Sessions by Ralph Peer, they recorded two songs that can still be heard on the Bristol Sessions. She is the last performer of the Bristol Sessions to pass away.

A service to honor the life of Georgia will be held Tuesday, March 8,2016 at 8 pm at Tetrick Funeral Home – Bluff City Chapel, visitation will be prior to the service from 6 – 8pm. Graveside services will Wednesday 9, 2016 at 11 am at Morrell Cemetery in Bluff City those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50am. Pastor Tim Carlson of Walnut Grove Christian Church and Tom Edwards will be officiating, music will under the direction of Kris Carlson.

Active pallbearers will be John Holsclaw Sr., John Holsclaw Jr., Jerry Morrell, Darrell Taylor, Anthony Comer and Mason Sherve. Honorary pallbearers: Tony Morrell, Michael Morrell, Wayne Torbett, Dean Torbett, Don Warren, Brady Harkleroad and Gerald Utsman.

Betty Ann Massengill Morrell, 85, 700 Elizabethton Hwy. 19E, Bluff City died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a brief illness. A native of Bluff City, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Margaret Plank Massengill. Mrs. Morrell was a member of the First Christian Church of Bluff City, and she was an avid gardener.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Morrell and three sisters, Mabel Southwick, Margaret Rutter and Irene Wagner. Survivors include four sons, Tony E. Morrell & wife Dimple, Jeffrey D. Morrell, Michael L. Morrell all of Bluff City and Jerry W. Morrell and wife Sherry of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Georgia Warren of Bluff City and Edith Quinn of Knoxville.

The funeral service for Mrs. Morrell will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel with Mr. Tim Carlson and Mr. Jim Miller, ministers officiating. ELIZABETHTON - Vada Buckles Moore, age 85, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton.

Vada was born in Carter County, Tennessee to the late Oscar and Jeannie Massengill Buckles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Moore; one daughter, Donna Puckett; seven brothers, J.T. Buckles, Jack Buckles, Luther Buckles, Dewey Buckles, Bob Buckles, Thompkin Buckles and Conley Buckles; and one sister, Edna Parlier.

Vada had worked as a seamstress and was of the Baptist faith. She most enjoyed taking care of her husband of 66 years, sewing, cooking and gardening.

Those left to cherish her wonderful memories include her loving husband of 66 years, Carl Moore, of the home; her son, Carl Wayne Moore, of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Carla Reeser and husband Clinton, of Johnson City, Erica Moore, of Charlotte, NC, Jeannie Puckett, of Elizabethton, and Ashley Anderson (Kelly), of Elizabethton; five great grandchildren, Sydney, Jordan, Madison, Kinsley and Hayden. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

JOHNSON CITY - Fay Massengill Berry, 88, Johnson City, died Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Broadmore Senior Living.

Fay was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City.

She was a daughter of the late Fleenor Massengill and Alma Wilson Massengill Hilton.

Fay was a Licensed Practical Nurse, retiring from the Johnson City Memorial Hospital following several years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 husbands, Henry Clayton Brown, Clarence Black, and Raymond Allen Berry, her sister, Blanche Massengill.

Fay is survived by two sons, Gary Zan Brown, Bristol, and Terry Lee Brown, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Gary Zan Brown, Jr., Amanda Shane Brown, Russell Brown, and Branson Quinton Brown; four great-grandchildren.

JOHNSON CITY - Jack Rumbley Dempsey, 86, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

Mr. Dempsey was born in Elizabethton, a son of the late William "Bill" and Viola Rumbley Dempsey.
Mr. Dempsey graduated from Mary Hughes High School in 1953, before going on to serve in the National Guard and the U. S. Army. Afterward he worked and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 43 years of service.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Piney Flats for over 50 years. Mr. Dempsey was also a member of East Unaka Christian Church, servicing as assistant Sunday School superintendent, president of win a couples class, deacon, and elder. He enjoyed camping, NASCAR, and model railroading.
Mr. Dempsey is preceded in death by: one sister, Berniece Tipton; and two brothers, Guy Dempsey and Verlin Dempsey.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Faye Elizabeth Dempsey; daughter, Debra Mae Chandler and her husband Doctor Paul Chandler, of Florence, SC; two grandchildren, Joshua Paul Chandler and his wife Maryse, and Ashley Elizabeth Marsh and her husband Jesse; three great grandchildren, Jack Gaylon Chandler, Cora Diane Chandler, and Abigail Elizabeth Marsh; one brother, Bob Dempsey and his wife Debbie of Nashville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Tazewell, Virginia, a daughter of the late Calvin and Nora Byington King.
Mrs. Dempsey graduated from Bluff City High School in 1953. She went on to work and retire from the Johnson City Power Board after 31 years of service as a system operator.
She was a member of East Unaka Christian Church. Mrs. Dempsey had a deep love for her Lord Jesus Christ, the outdoors, and spending time with her precious family.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Jack R. Dempsey; brothers, Neil king and A. L. King; and sister, Frances Morrell.
Those left to cherish her memory include: daughter, Debra Mae Chandler and her husband, Dr. Paul Chandler, of Florence, SC; two grandchildren, Joshua Paul Chandler and his wife Maryse, Ashley Elizabeth Marsh and her husband Jesse; four great grandchildren, Jack Gaylon Chandler, Cora Diane Chandler, Abigail Elizabeth Marsh, and David Joseph Marsh; and several special nieces and nephews.

ELIZABETHTON - Dorothy “Dot” C. Little, age 93, of Elizabethton passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Mrs. Little was born in Sullivan County, TN, but lived most of her life in Carter County, TN. She was the daughter of the late Mitchell P. Carr and Sula M. Dempsey Carr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Emory L. “Jack” Little on November 22, 2020 and by her brother and two sisters. Mrs. Little was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Berdell Little (Ann). Lewis Edwin Buckles, age 90, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from the Bristol Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. Lewis was born in Bluff City, Tennessee on February 28, 1926 to the late Emmett and Oda Dempsey Buckles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Verna Riffey; and one brother, Bill Buckles.

Lewis retired as an electrician, and had also worked as a farmer and was a small business owner. He had been a member of Poplar Ridge Christian Church for over 60 years. Lewis was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Bluff City VFW Post # 9629, a 50 year member of M.M. Martin Masonic Lodge #547 and he was a past worshipful master of M.M. Martin Masonic Lodge #547 in 1962. He was a charter member of the Piney Flats Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of the Piney Flats Ruritan Club. He loved to farm and spend time with his grandson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Delores Willis Buckles, of the home; one son, Keith Buckles and wife Betty, of Lenoir City, TN; one daughter, Tammie Green and husband Steve, of Piney Flats; one grandson, Jeremy Lewis Buckles and wife Kelsey, of Lenoir City, TN; one brother, Jim Buckles, of Bluff City; four sisters, Jewel Buchanan, of Bristol, TN, Jean Owens, of Bluff City, TN, Shirley Reedy, of Piney Flats, TN, and Linda Uzell, Alpharetta, GA. There will be a Masonic Service, to follow the funeral service. Music will be provided by MaKenzee and MaKayla Lady. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in the Poplar Ridge Christian Church Cemetery in Piney Flats, Tennessee. HAMPTON - Clarence Stuart Fair, 72, Hampton, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at Agape Nursing & Rehab.

Mr. Fair was born in Johnson City to the late Clarence C. and Queen E. Dempsey Fair.

He worked over 30 years at A. O. Smith Water Products Company.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Fair was preceded in death by one niece, Christy Carver.

Survivors include: one sister, Agnes L. Carver; nephews, Tony Carver and his fiancé Mistee and Randy Carver and his wife Crystal; several great and great, great nieces and nephews; and all the ladies and IHOP and A. O. Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bernice Carrier, sons: Jeff Carrier, Mark Carrier (Sarah), Tim Carrier (Carolyn), Chris Carrier (Donna); Grandchildren: Courtney Massey (James), Ethan Carrier, Ivy Carrier, Jacob Carrier, Clayton Carrier (Kayla), Laura Carrier, Cole Carrier; Step-grandchildren: Allister Hawkins (Danielle), Cliff Hawkins, Evan Allie (Adam); he was also looking forward to the arrival of his first Great-grandchild in October, Mother-in-law, Annie Haga (his sweetheart), Sisters: Doris Sutton, Elouise Jefferson (Henry); Brother, William "Pete" Carrier (Sharon), Sisters-in-law: Mary Melvin, Martha Feathers, Several nieces and nephews.

Harley started working at a young age, beginning at age 9 with a paper route with the Bristol Herald Courier that continued for 10 years. He retired from the Sullivan County School Department after 28 years. He continued to work for them another 4 years on various projects, for a total of 32 years of service. Harley was a current member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church. He was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Bluff City Baptist Church. His hobbies included antiquing and taking road trips. Harley loved working with his hands and volunteering his time to help others.

We would like to express our appreciation to the nurses, doctors, and staff in the ICU at Holston Valley Hospital for their compassionate care. Also, Dr. Bruce Vincent for his help during this time.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 26, 2018 until a Celebration of Harley's Life at 7:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Allen Davis officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday at New Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Piney Flats. Pallbearers are grandsons, nephews and James Massey. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of Piney Flats First Baptist Church. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery on Sunday by 2:50 pm.

CARTER COUNTY - Mrs. Donna Hendrix "Meems" Holsclaw, age 75, of Carter County, TN passed away Friday, July 29, 2016, in the Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC and is now at peace with the Lord.

She is the daughter of the late Mack Cody and Ruth Irene Massengill Hendrix. She was a graduate of Bluff City High School. Donna retired as an administrative assistant at Harold McCormick Elementary and the Elizabethton City School System. She was a very active member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ and loved to study her Bible. She was a former member of the Elizabethton Women's Club and was a Cyclone booster. Donna was an avid Elizabethton Cyclone and University of Tennessee fan and loved sports; especially watching her grandchildren play sports. She loved her grandchildren and her friends and enjoyed watching birds, and going to the beach. Donna also loved to listen to Elvis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Christy Michelle Holsclaw and one brother, George Cody Hendrix who was a former CIA agent who worked on the Blackbird Project.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, John Holsclaw Sr., of the home; three children, Dr. Tammy Holsclaw-Jones and husband Randy, Carter County; Representative John Holsclaw Jr. and wife Sheralyn, Carter County and Kim Buckner and husband Brian, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Brooke Jones-Cannon and husband Ethan, Casey Jones, Alex Jones, Taylor Holsclaw, Kaeli Sams, Dana Belle Holsclaw, Hannah Holsclaw and Holly Holsclaw. Several special nieces and nephews including, Vicki, Steve, Jan, Melanie and Nancy and a special friend, Tammy Oxendine also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Donna Hendrix "Meems" Holsclaw will be conducted at 8:00 PM on Monday, August 1, 2016, in the Elizabethton High School Gym with Mr. Roby Ellis, Mr. Eddy Craft and Mr. Dennis Pierce, ministers officiating.

The family will receive friends in the Gym from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday prior to the funeral service. Committal and entombment service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, in the Mausoleum of Peace of Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Alex Jones, Willie Holsclaw, David Shields, Randy Jones, Brian Buckner, Steve Roberts, Fred Guthrie and George Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Hendrix, Ethan Cannon, Ronnie Taylor, Kelly Geagley, Jim Maupin and Dr. Phil Roe. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery
