Violet Renfro

ERWIN — Violet Renfro Mathes, 92, formerly of 890 Rock Creek Road, Erwin, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Center on Aging and Health.

She was a native of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Ruben M. and Frances Honeycutt Renfro. Violet worked for the former Southern Potteries and later in her career worked in retail food sales and management, including the former Coley's. Ms. Mathes was proud that her husband, father and brother served in the United States Military as she spoke of this often. She was a member of Rock Creek Presbyterian Church. She had many lifelong friends who valued her friendship as she valued theirs. She loved her children and they were most important to her.

Violet Mathes has left behind to cherish her memories, son, Michael L. Mathes and special daughter-in-law, Shelia of Johnson City; daughter, Sandy Morris of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Todd Moore of Asheville, NC, Stacey Moore of Asheville, NC, Serena Mathes of San Francisco, CA, Ryan Mathes of Johnson City, Cassie Mathes of Johnson City, Aaron Mathes of Piney Flats; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; niece and nephews, Judy Hawkins of Erwin, Steve Dover of Erwin, Kyle Dover of Erwin, Donald Dover of Ohio.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Violet Renfro Mathes in a committal service to be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, July 8, 2016, at Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Reverend Joan Gandy will officiate. Those who will attend will meet at Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel by 2:50 PM.

Violet married Russell Mathes about 1950 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee. Russell (son of Henry Mathes and Maude Tipton) was born on 12 Jun 1927 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee; died on 14 Aug 1957 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Mountain Home National Cemetery, , Washington County, Tennessee.
