    Carol Ann James, 81, of Gray, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Life Care Center of Gray. She was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Gray. She was the daughter of the late James Smith and Vergie Smith Matherly. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Gary W. James, and a grandson, Adam James. Survivors include her daughter, Ramona Houston and husband David of Gray; granddaughter, Amanda Holt and husband Thomas of Decatur, Ga.; grandson, Caleb James of Elizabethton; and two great-grandsons, Jackson and Logan Holt of Decatur, Ga. She is also survived by three brothers, Bobby Smith, Bud Smith and wife Nancy of Elizabethton, and James Smith and wife Christine of Johnson City; two sisters, Debby Range and husband Johnny, and Phyllis Arnold and husband R.V. of Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
