    JOHNSON CITY - Elva Cretsinger Hodges, 86, Johnson City passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 at the residence with her family at her side. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late James Paul Cretsinger and Buena Hale Cretsinger. She was a charter member of Cash Hollow Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronnie Cretsinger, Dan “Jack” Cretsinger and James Cretsinger; two sisters, Edna Woodward and Geraldine Metcalf.

    Survivors include her children, Donald Lee Shealy and wife, Margie of Murfreesboro, Janice Buchanan and husband, Nat of Johnson City, Sissy Shipley and husband, Glen of Johnson City and Johnnie Lacey and husband, Carl of Johnson City; three sisters, Dolores Austin, Marie Crumley and Faye Cox and husband, Jimmy all of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Taffy Dugger, Faith Bishop, John Eddie Buchanan, Wesley Buchanan and Ryan Shipley; great-grandchildren, Caleb Jones, Gaston Dugger, Elizabeth Buchanan, “Bo” Buchanan, Samuel Buchanan and Jones Bishop; several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services for Elva will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Chaplain Steven Spell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside service will be held 12:00 noon in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from her family and friends.

    Edna Lavonne Woodward, 68, of 728 Austin Springs Road, Johnson City, died suddenly at the Johnson City Medical Center.

    She was a native of Washington County, daughter of the late James Paul and Buena Hale Cretsinger of Johnson City.

    Edna was owner-operator of Podos Market for over 40 years. She attended the Cash Hollow Presbyterian Church for many years.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Podo Woodward, and two brothers, Jack and Ronnie Cretsinger.

    Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Patricia Woodward of Gray; a brother, Jim Cretsinger of Johnson City; five sisters, Geraldine Metcalf and Dolores Austin of Johnson City, Marie Crumley of Jonesborough, Elva Hodges and Faye Cox of Johnson City; an uncle, Carl Hale and several nieces and nephews.

    A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, May 27, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Hollace Ford. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Monday, May 28, 2007 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to go in procession at 10:30 a.m.

    Active pallbearers will be: Jeff Larimer, Darryl Cretsinger, Kyle Earp, Donnie Shealy, Terry Austin and Greg Cretsinger; honorary pallbearers will be: her brother, Jim Cretsinger and Eddie Woodward. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the Arthritus Foundation, 1330 Peachtree St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.

    Ronald L. Cretsinger, 58, 655 Cash Hollow Road, Johnson City died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at his residence.

    Mr. Cretsinger was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, Tennessee and was a son of the late Paul and Buena Hale Cretsinger. Mr. Cretsinger was a former employee with American Limestone in Watauga. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

    Mr. Cretsinger is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Cretsinger. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and James "Peanut" Clay of Gray; one son, Ronald Cretsinger, II of the home and Ann Cretsinger; three stepchildren, Becky, Scottie and Wendy; two grandchildren, Casey Baker of Johnson City and J.D. Clay of Gray; five step grandchildren; six sisters, Geraldine Metcalf, Dolores Austin, Elva Hodges, Edna Woodward, and Faye Cox, all of Johnson City, Marie Crumley of Jonesborough; one brother, Jim Cretsinger of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The prayer service for Ronald L. Cretsinger will be conducted at 8 PM Sunday, October 22, 2006 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Mr. Mark Price will officiate. Music will be by Ellen Pollock and David Pollock, soloists. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 AM Monday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The procession will form at Morris-Baker at 10:30 AM Monday to go to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jim Boggs, Darryl Cretsinger, Jeff Larimer, Vince Austin, Kenny Robinson, and Tracy Feathers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Cretsinger, Danny Turbyfield and all remaining nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM Sunday prior to the service.
