    ELIZABETHTON - Inge Ritchie, age 96, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Inge was born February 23, 1926 in Frankfort, Germany to the late Margareta Kuchenbecker Simon. In addition to her mother, Inge was also preceded in death by her husband, Golman Buck Ritchie; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Gary Ingram; one son, Donald Wayne Ritchie; and two sisters, Mathilde Fry and Marianne Meyers.
    Inge retired as a Walmart associate and was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church. She had also worked at Denise Lingerie and for Big K Department Store. Inge loved spending time with her family, shopping, watching NASCAR races, Atlanta Braves and all of Elizabethton High School sports.
    Those left to cherish Inge’s memories include her son, Ronald (Nancy) Ritchie of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Craig (Karma) Ingram, Mindy Ingram Buckles all of Elizabethton, and Jacqueline (Nathaniel) Yates of Mountain City, TN; five great grandchildren, Kaylee Ingram, Maely Ingram, Hannah Morgan, Madelyn Morgan and Skylar Yates; and her special friend and caregiver Karen Crowe and her Amedysis RN- Keith Greene. Nieces and a nephew also survive.
    A graveside service to honor Inge’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Steve Burleson and Reverend Jeremy Burleson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Reverend Jeremy Burleson. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Lewis, Kelly Crain and Berry Carrier.

    Samuel Leon "Buddy" Hardin, age 77, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.
    A lifelong native of Carter County, he was born in Elizabethton, TN, to the late Hobert and Sally (Alford) Hardin.
    Sam attended Unaka High School and graduated from East Tennessee State University and The School of Banking of the South (Louisiana State University). He retired from Walters State Community College, Morristown, TN, where he was a supporter of the Walters State Senators.
    Sam was an avid golfer and life-long Tennessee Volunteer fan, but above all he loved spending time with his family and supporting the athletic events of his grandchildren. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend loved dearly by his family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce "Peggy" (Holly) Hardin; and stepmother, Juanita (Cole) Hardin.
    He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Hedge and husband, Bill, of Jupiter, FL, Lori Armstrong and husband, Mike, of Johnson City, TN; three grandchildren, Shannon Hedge, Cody Armstrong (Great Falls, MT) and Caleb Armstrong; sister, Dora Lynn Moneyhun, of Greeneville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Cynthia Simmons, Morristown, TN.

    ELIZABETHTON - Claudia Nell Ensor, 87, Elizabethton, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from Life Care Center of Elizabethton. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Blonnie Blanche Alford. Claudia was born and raised in the Carter community of Stoney Creek. She had retired as office manager for Dr. Douglas Cole, and she dearly loved the practice’s patients, her co-workers, and Dr. Cole and his family. Claudia was one of the few remaining charter members of Unaka Baptist Church, where she was a faithful choir member. She loved to sing, and especially enjoyed attending “singing school” every year, along with her good friend Ann Hardin.
    Claudia was a graduate of Unaka High School, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
    She was an excellent cook and home decorator and always made the holidays very special for her family.
    Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were Claudia’s world. Whether it was driving them to ballgames, school events, or church activities, there was nothing she relished more. Loved ones often joked that Claudia didn’t like to sleep for fear she’d miss out on something “the kids” were doing. She admitted she was the reason a few of them were spoiled.
    Claudia lost the love of her life, Ralph Ensor, on March 16, 1983, in a tragic accident. They had married on July 8, 1952, and Claudia always counted those 30 years and 8 months as the best part of her life. Claudia was also preceded in death by her cousin, Geraldine Grindstaff, who she counted as a sister.
    Survivors are her three children: Jeff Ensor (wife, Nancy); Jennifer Grindstaff (husband, Gary); and Alan Ensor (wife, Pam). Five grandchildren: J.R. Ensor (wife, Julia); Justin Grindstaff (wife, Rebekah); Madison Bowman (husband, Joe); Andrea Lee (wife, Suzanne); and Adam Ensor. Ten great-grandchildren: Cale Ensor, Olivia Whittaker, Mathias Ensor, Taylor Grindstaff, Jared Grindstaff, Patrick Sexton, Charlie Bowman, Micah Lee, Coraline Lee, and Axton Ensor.
    The family would like to express a very special and sincere “thank you” to all the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton for the loving care, hugs, and attention she received. You truly spoiled her! Thank you, Unaka Baptist Church family, for remembering Claudia in prayer and with visits and gifts. For the other friends of Claudia’s and the family who took the time to visit; you will never know how much your visits meant to her, and to us. A very sincere thanks to you.
    Per Claudia’s wishes a number of years ago, there will be no formal funeral service or visitation. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Ensor Cemetery.

    Mr. Alford worked for Leon Ferenbach and Bemberg, before retiring from East Tennessee State University after many years of employment.

    Mr. Alford was a member of Southwestern Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM Lodge # 622 Watauga, and was of the Scottish rite and a Jericho Temple Shriner.

    Bill loved country music. He and his band played country music on WJHL in 1945, and he played and produced shows on WIDD.

    The funeral service was conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, August 13, 2012 from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.

    The graveside service and entombment was conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 14 from Roselawn Memory Gardens.

    Coby was a native of Johnson City and a daughter of the late William “Bill” and Veda Pierce Alford.

    Coby worked at Giant Food Market/Food Lion for many years until her retirement. After retirement she enjoyed working at Bargains on Broadway. She loved going to the beach and spending lots of time with family and friends.

    In addition to her parents Coby was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Lawrence Ingram, siblings, Billy Alford, Betty Hyder, Judy Keene, Houston “Beau” Alford.

    Those left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Teresa Ingram Bennett; grandson and her special light, Sebastian Bennett; sister, Teresa Piercy; her fur baby and constant companion, Twilight; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; a lot of special friends throughout life.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Grindstaff, officiating.

    The graveside committal will follow the service at 1:00 p.m. in Roselawn Memorial Park. There will be no procession from the funeral home so for those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m. Pallbearers include, Rosco Piercy, Jamie Keene, Cree Hyder, Damian Hall, Dominic McIntyre, Beau Alford.

    JOHNSON CITY - Houston “Beau” Alford, 75, Johnson City, passed away, Thursday, May 13, 2021, with his family by his side, followed by a brief illness.

    Beau was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late William “Bill” and Alice O’Veda Pearce Alford.

    Beau attended Freewill Baptist Church. He had the gift of music, being an incredible musician and vocalist, playing in: “The Bob Lewis Band” and “The Brother Buford Band.” He loved listening to old records like Elvis, and playing his keyboard. Beau was also a wonderful cook, known for his beef stew. When his children were young his house was always the place to come for dinner time. Everyone enjoyed his music, cooking, quick wit and humor.

    Beau adored his family which included 5 children and 8 grandchildren. He always said, “Nothing was more important than family.” His family will honor this loving sentiment by continuing to gather even after moving in different directions.

    In addition to his parents, Beau was preceded in death by his siblings, Billy Alford, Betty Hyder and Judy Keene.

    Those left to carry on his legacy are his amazing children, Amy Alford Taylor (Chris) of Murfreesboro, John Seehorn (Misty) of Johnson City, Kasey Alford Thomas (Terry) of Lexington, KY, Jessica Alford Haynes (Scott Kologiski) of St. Petersburg, FL, Beau Alford (Kristen) of Nashville; grandchildren, Will, Riley, Marlee, Bodhi, Anne-Marie, Clara, Andrew, and Banks; sisters, Coby Ingram of Johnson City, Teresa Piercy of Chucky; he was adored as an uncle, cousin and friend.

    The family will gather for a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. in Monte Vista Memorial Park, with Pastor Kenneth Grindstaff, officiating. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 a.m.

    The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.

    JOHNSON CITY - Eleanor “Ellie” Jean Baehr, 71, Johnson City went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident to Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Jess Willard Alford and Thelma Edith Lawless Alford. Ellie was a member of the Day of Deliverance Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and having family day on the weekend. Ellie spent majority of her time at church. She loved going to Bingo with her friends. Ellie spent her mornings watching game shows and the evening watching her westerns. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a devoted Christian. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Alford.

    Survivors include her son, David Diehl and his wife, Shannon of Gray; a sister, Joyce Hodges of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Kaleb Diehl, Joshua Diehl and Piper Reed; the father of her child and longtime friend, David Christian Diehl of Johnson City; special friends, Allison Dalton, Janice Honeycutt, Terry Putzstuck, Helen McGrew and family; her entire church family; also several nieces and nephews.

    Pamela Alford Roe, age 59, of Johnson City, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

    Pam was born and had been a resident of Johnson City her entire life. She was a 1974 graduate of Science Hill High School where she was a majorette and furthered her education by earning her LPN degree.

    She was a loving and caring wife, mother and Nana. She truly had a nurse's heart and compassionately cared for each of her patients. Pam loved the mountains of East Tennessee and had a great love for animals. Pam served on the Board of Directors for the Washington County Humane Society and her love for children was exemplified by serving as a Girl Scouts den mother. She had a great love for music and enjoyed the blues, hymns of the church and the 1970's rock n' roll. Pam's hobbies included hiking, jogging, swimming and she enjoyed family trips to the beach. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

    Pam was an active member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, Johnson City.

    Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Ruble and Jessie Mae Alford.

    Surviving Pam: her husband of nineteen years, Congressman Phil Roe M.D., one daughter, Whitney Larkin, two sons, David Roe and wife Kimberly and John Roe and wife Jennifer, grandchildren, Kathryn and Caroline Roe, step-mother Verna Lee Alford, and her beloved pets, Max and Sabrina.

    The family will greet friends to share memories on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 1:00PM until 3:00PM at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, Johnson City.

    A Celebration of Pam's Life will follow at 3:00PM with Dr. Mark Gooden and Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating.

    Following the service the family will greet friends in the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church Christian Life Center.

    The Graveside Service will be private. Active pallbearers will be: Joe Grandy, Dr. Turney Williams, Gerald Thomas, Dr. David Jones, Paul Chadha and Dr. Tom Eades.     ELIZABETHTON - Violet Jean Ritchie Friend, wife of William Friend, age 73, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, with her family and best friend by her side, November 18, 2017 from the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.

    Violet was born in Elizabethton to the late Curtis B. Ritchie and Mary Lyons Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, David White; one son, Billy Hambric; one brother, J.C. Ritchie; and one sister, Shirley Ashley.

    Violet retired as a seamstress at Levi Strauss & Company and attended Grace Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed scrapbooking, making cards, shopping with her daughter and spending time with her granddaughter, grandson and her son.

    Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Shane Watson, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Kimberly Hambric Hoefling, of Johnson City; a granddaughter, Allison "A.J." Hoefling; a grandson, Cory Watson; several step grandchildren; two step sons, David Friend and Billy Friend, both of Michigan; and two step daughters, Jenny and Barb Friend, both of Michigan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to celebrate the life of Violet Jean Ritchie Friend will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Curtis Hurt and Rev. Nathan Jennings, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Tuesday.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ronald Ritchie, Ricky Deloach, Jimmy Burrow, Michael Burrow, Cory Watson, and Lee Gay.
