    Martha Jane Whitehead was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Whitehead b. 1845 in Carter Co., TN, and Elizabeth Jane Boring b. 5 Feb 1846 in Montvale, Blount Co., TN (both buried at the Red Top Primitive Baptist Church Cem., Blount Co. TN); she had the following siblings: David L., John Harvey, William M., Mary Elizabeth, Robert Bruce, Thomas Jefferson, Walter Edward, and Lucinda Ellen Whitehead.

    She married on 14 Feb 1886 and divorced (1) William A. Gregory b. in Cades Cove on 4 Jul 1864 d. 01 Mar 1910 (buried at the Primitive Baptist Church, Cades Cove); they had 7 children: Lee, Susan, Beula, Uceba, Unkn, Paralee who married Perry Raby, Nora Elizabeth (Lizzie), and Andrew M. Gregory.

    She married in 1908, (2) John Hendrix (buried at Red Top Primitive); they had one son: Curtis Allen Hendrix b. 1909, d. 1944 in Union Co., TN, who married Thelma Lee Haney b. 1 Jan 1910, d. 20 Oct 1990 in TN; they had 9 children.

    Martha & her son Curtis were among the first to be given notice in Nov 1942 when the Manhattan Project began to acquire land for the Kingston Demolition Range, later the Clinton Engineer Works and later Oak Ridge. They moved to a home on Brickyard Rd. in Powell owned by her son Andrew M. Gregory where she lived until her death.
