    Mrs. Eliza Jane Hyder, age 62, of the Gap Creek community, passed away suddenly last night at 7:20 o'clock in a car while on her way to the home of her son, Brown Hyder, where she has made her home. She was returning from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Luther Hill.
    Mrs. Hyder was been in failing health for the past year. She was born 16Sep1881 at Gap Creek & had lived in that community all her life. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago.
    She was a member of the Zion Baptist church at Gap Creek.
    Survivors are 6 daughters, Mrs. Earnest Allison of Johnson City; Mrs. Romney Blevins of Elizabethton; Mrs. Reva Smith, Mrs. Luther Hill, Mrs. James Britt, of Gap Creek; & Mrs. Orville Markland of Milligan; 3 sons, Pvt. Brown Hyder, of Camp Chaffee, AR; Vance Hyder of Gap Creek & Albert yder of Johnson City; 1 sister, Mrs. Martha Emert of Gap Creek; 4 brothers, Will & Nat Dugger of Elizabethton; & James & Jett Dugger of Gap Creek; & 14 grandchildren.

    Notes:

    Vance Hyder, age 99 of Elizabethton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Oscar and Jane Dugger Hyder. Mr. Hyder was a farmer, who enjoyed raising tomatoes and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 42 years of service. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jenkins Hyder, December 27, 1998, two brothers and nine sisters.


    Survivors include daughter, Nancy Diane Hyder, Elizabethton, three sons and daughters-in-law, Norman "Buddy" Hyder and wife, Jeane Smithdeal Hyder, Elizabethton, Carmon Ray Hyder and wife, Sue Calloway Hyder, Johnson City, Tony J. Hyder and wife, Brenda Peters Hyder, Elizabethton. Ten grandchildren, Michael K. Adams, Bristol, TN, Andy Hyder, Elizabethton, Patrick Hyder, Telford, Timothy Hyder, Johnson City, Christopher Hyder, Johnson City, Kathy Hyder Boling, Elizabethton, Katrina Hyder Hopson, Elizabethton, Alecia Hyder, Elizabethton, Debbie Hyder Hodges, Elizabethton, Tabitha Hyder Blackwell, Elizabethton, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. One special niece, Elaine Brumit, Elizabethton. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.


    The funeral service for Mr. Vance Hyder will be conducted at 8 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. C.W. Snodgrass and Rev. Burl Sluder officiating. Music will be under the direction of Katrina Hopson, Debbie Hodges and Tabitha Blackwell. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, from 6:30 PM until 8 PM prior to the service.


    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Noon at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Pat Hyder, Tim Hyder, Chris Hyder, Andy Hyder, Travis Brumit and Steve Hyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Boling, John Hopson, Jeff Hyder, Jerry Hodges, Brent Blackwell, Michael Adams, Lester Brumit, Justin Boling, Blake Hopson, Jordan Hodges, Joshua Hyder, Caleb Hyder, Hunter Hodges, Austin Boling, Cole Blackwell, Sam Hyder, Sophia Hyder, Katie Hyder, Lacey Hyder, Lindsey Hyder, Lauren Hyder and Kelly Casteel.

    Vance married Ethel Jenkins on 24 Dec 1934 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Ethel (daughter of Roderick R.     JOHNSON CITY - Shirley May Williams, 75, Johnson City passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Lakebridge Healthcare in Johnson City. She was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a daughter of the late James Luther Britt and Luster Hyder Britt. Shirley worked for many years as a CNA. She enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening and walking her dog. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, June Hughes and Florence Hughes.
    Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Dallas Franklin Williams; a son, Stephen Allen Williams of Johnson City; a sister, Dorothy McKinney of Anniston, Alabama; six nieces and five nephews.
    Graveside service for Shirley will be conducted 2:00 Monday, April 11, 2022 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery Historic Section with Chaplain Dwight MacPherson officiating.

    Norman Eugene "Buddy" Hyder, 81, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017, in the Pine Ridge Care Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Vance & Ethel Jenkins Hyder. Buddy was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. He served in the United States Army. He was owner & operator of Hyder Tomato Company. Buddy was a member of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Tony Hyder, a brother-in-law: Allen Smithdeal and a special friend: Mike Honeycutt.

    Survivors include his wife of 53 years: Jeane Smithdeal Hyder. A daughter & son-in-law: Kathy & Rick Boling, Elizabethton. A son: Andrew Hyder, Elizabethton. Four Grandchildren: Justin Boling & wife Danielle, Austin Boling, Andrea Hyder and Amy Hyder. One Great Grandchild: Madison Boling. A Sister: Nancy Diane Elliott, Elizabethton, brother: Ray Hyder and wife Sue, Johnson City. His sister-in-law: Brenda Hyder, brother-in-law: Sid Smithdeal & friend Trula Haley, his special friend: Riley Barnett and numerous nieces & nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Valley Forge United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel Cook officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Linda Baughman and Judy Little. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday and at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday will be: Justin Boling, Austin Boling, Pat Hyder, Tim Hyder, Chris Hyder, Gary Jenkins, Art Smithdeal and Travis Brumit. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Michael Adams, Rick Smithdeal, Joe Smithdeal, Rick Boling, Rob Robertson, Rex Ward, Sam Hampton, Randy Slagle, Ronny Street, John D. Snyder, Kelly Crain, Cleatis Boling, his church family and all former employees of Hyder Tomato Company. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Valley Forge United Methodist Church. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Debbie Street and the staff of Pine Ridge Care Center and Melanie Hall for the excellent care Buddy received.

    Nancy Diane Hyder, 68, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center. Nancy was born in Carter County to the late Vance and Ethel Jenkins Hyder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman "Buddy" Hyder and wife Jeane and Tony Jack Hyder, and one nephew, Patrick Hyder.
    Nancy was a legal secretary and had worked for both Sam LaPorte and T.J. Little for many years. She was a past president of the Legal Secretary Association and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton.
    Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Michael K. Adams of Elizabethton; a brother, Ray Hyder and wife Sue of Johnson City; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Hyder of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

    JOHNSON CITY - Heaven gained the most beautiful angel, Linda Sue Markland Russell, 65, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Born in Carter County on January 14, 1950 to the late Orville & Temperence Hyder Markland. She was retired from Leon Fernbach, Inc. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother, sister and great grandmother to ever walk the earth. Everyone who knew her loved her so much because of the amount of love she always gave in return. She was truly a remarkable lady and this world really lost a great woman. Linda was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Jane Cable and Sandie Campbell and her sister-in-law, Donna Markland. Survivors include her husband: Thomas Russell and they were to celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary on November 7, 2015. Three Sons: Thomas Jr. and his wife Amy, Elizabethton, Christopher and his wife Tonya and Michael and his wife Emily all of Johnson City. Six Grandchildren: Christopher Jr., Jordan Blake, Logan, Taylor, Trevor and Bailey Russell , two great grandchildren: Aisley and Hailey. Three Brothers: Tom, Ricky and Raymond Markland and a sister: Goldie Lawson, a brother-in-law: Bobby Joe Russell and a sister-in-law: Lorine Hopson. Several nieces & nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill McDaniel officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 in Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be her sons & grandsons.

    JOHNSON CITY - Barbara Ruth Goodwin, 65, of Johnson City, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 14, 2019 at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City.

    She was born in Elizabethton, a daughter of the late Albert and Nola Yelton Hyder.

    Barbara was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church, where she was a preschool teacher in the Livewire Children's Ministry for over nine years. She was a devout Christian and was part of the Explorer Bible Study group for over 30 years.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Goodwin; and three sisters, Brenda York, Marrian Smith, and Jewel Richardson.

    She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Goodwin; a stepdaughter, Patsy Hayes; a stepdaughter, Lois Brady and her husband, Ron; a stepdaughter, Donna Mitchell and her husband, Fred; a stepson, Gary Goodwin; a brother, Carl Hyder and his wife Donna; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

    The Goodwin family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel and will be officiated by Dr. Michael Oaks. The committal service will be held at 3:00 pm at Rittertown Baptist Church cemetery in Hampton, TN. Family and friends are requested to gather at the cemetery at 2:50 pm.
