    Notes:

    R. Howard Bowers, age 88, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
    Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and was the son of the late Oscar Clyde Bowers and Willie Hyder Whittemore.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Colbaugh Bowers in 1970; a sister, Billie Shell; and a niece, Cynthia Frazier Freeman.
    Mr. Bowers retired from the Baker Hughes Company, General Electric and Sandvick Tool Company, as a supervisor. He was a member of Borderview Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and was a former treasurer. He enjoyed golf, traveling and listening to gospel and country music.
    Mr. Bowers was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II.
    Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Ann Cullop and Patty Swift and husband Kenneth, all of Elizabethton; and five nephews, Robert Frazier, Hampton, and Jim Frazier, Terry Frazier, Richard Shell, and Steve Shell, all of Elizabethton.
    A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. R. Howard Bowers will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Scott Fisher, minister, officiating.
    Active pallbearers will be Ray Don Markland, Raymond Morton, Joel Norris, Matt Fisher, Steve Burrough, Jody Crowe, James Hughes and Scott Reynolds.
    Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of Borderview Christian Church and all the members.

    ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Richard A. Shell, age 66, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.

    He was a son of the late Frederick "Bud" and Billie Bowers Shell and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Worthington Shell and a brother, Joseph Shell.

    Richard was a former X-ray Technician and a former Physical Therapist. He enjoyed reading and was of the Catholic faith.

    Those left to cherish his memory include a brother, Steve Shell of the home; a niece, Jamie Shell of Knoxville, TN; two aunts, Ruth Ann Cullop and Patty Swift and husband, Ken, all of Elizabethton; and three cousins.
