    Okla G. McHone, 92, formerly of Rt. 3, Roan Mountain, died Monday, January 4, 1999, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center. Mrs. McHone was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Hector N. and Eugenia Julian Boone. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Garland, in 1964, and her second husband, Troy F. McHone, in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Imogene Bisbee, Leesburg, Fla., and Ardella Kalkes, Chaska, Minn.; three brothers, Blaine Boone, Ivan Boone and Forrest Boone, all of Roan Mountain; and two sisters, Mary Andrews, Roan Mountain, and Pauline Brown, Newport News, Va. Three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, is in charge of arrangements.
    McHONE -- Funeral services for Okla G. McHone, 92, formerly of Rt. 3, Roan Mountain, who died Monday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Mike Lusk officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Melody Trio. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday for the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O.     ROAN MOUNTAIN — Mr. Blaine Robert Boone, 88, of Roan Mountain, TN died Saturday, October 30, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a lengthy illness.

    A native of Roan Mountain, he was the son of the late Hector and Eugenia Julian Boone. Mr. Boone had retired as owner and operator of the Roan Mountain Grocery. He had served as president of the Roan Mountain Water Authority for many years and had been president of the Roan Mountain American Legion Post #229.

    Mr. Boone attended Heaton Creek Holiness Church and the Roan Mountain Church of God. He was a U.S. Army veteran having received the expert infantry badge, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He loved his family, the people of Roan Mountain and his many friends, gospel music and animals.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gibbs Boone; five brothers, Crumley Boone, Oran Boone, Ivan Boone and Forrest Boone; an infant brother and by two sisters, Okla McHone and Mary Andrews.

    Survivors include a daughter, Helen Fleenor, Hampton, TN; two granddaughters, Jennifer Sizemore and husband Tony, Gray, TN and Teressa Fleenor, Johnson City, TN; six great-grandchildren, Marah Sizemore, Evan Sizemore, Elissah Sizemore, Lydiah Sizemore, Holly Bumgarner and husband Tony and Nathaniel Martin; two great-great-grandchildren, Adrianna Bumgarner and Chloe Bumgarner. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service for Mr. Blaine Robert Boone will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Monday, November 1, 2010 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Lusk, Rev. Ronnie Lackey and Rev. Roy Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:30 P.M. on Monday prior to the funeral service.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his many friends. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. on Tuesday for the graveside service.

    ROAN MOUNTAIN - Mr. Durward Julian, 100, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 17, 2017, from The Waters at Roan Highlands. He was born in Roan Mountain, a son of the late Vista Honeycutt Julian and James N. Julian, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Audrey Caraway Julian, on December 25, 2005; three brothers, Reginald Julian, Adrian Julian, James H. "Junior" Julian; a sister, Thelma Julian Romer, and a granddaughter-in-law, Rhonda Lawson Julian.

    Mr. Julian lived in Roan Mountain his entire life, graduating from Cloudland High School in 1934. He married his wife, Audrey, on October 3, 1936 and they spent sixty-nine happy years together before her death. He was a proud member of the Roan Mountain Community and contributed much, including helping to secure funding and support for the Roan Mountain State Park, the Carter County Work Camp and the construction of a paved road to the top of Roan Mountain. He was a charter member of the Roan Mountain Citizens Club and helped organize and host the Rhododendron Festival. He was also a charter member of the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. He was a respected and beloved member of the community, which honored him by naming a portion of Old Highway 143 for him on the occasion of his 100Th birthday in May of 2016. He was also named a Tennessee Colonel by Gov. Winfield Dunn, he was a member of the International Gideons, and was the last charter member of Magill Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully in several capacities for many years, including as Clerk of the Session, an Elder, and as a teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class.

    He was a former supervisor at NARC, and retired from a sales position at Headlight Overalls and also worked for Carhartt Clothing and Liberty Overalls. He loved to garden, read, and play horseshoes with the friends and family he enjoyed so much. He enjoyed traveling, especially the annual family beach trip, and visiting in the community. One of his greatest pleasures was reading his Bible.

    Those left to cherish the memory of Mr. Julian include many members of his large and loving family; a daughter, Vista Clark, and her husband, Dicky, Elizabethton; three sons, Ronnie Julian and his wife, Lynn, Kernersville, NC; Larry Julian, and his wife, Kathy, Richmond, VA; Lanny Julian, and his wife, Donna, Lakewood Ranch, FL; nine grandchildren, Brian Julian, and his wife, Hannah; Tim Julian, and his wife, Angie; Laura Simpson, and her husband, Bruce; Angie Shearer, and her husband, Jason; Wendi Julian Flaspohler; Krista Christy, and her husband, Dr. George Christy; Audra Nikki Greig, and her husband, John; Jilian Clark Reece, and her husband, Adam; Jordan Clark; twenty-seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Julian, and his wife, Charlotte; Caleb Julian; Hannah Grace Julian; Faith Julian; Deborah Julian; Seth Julian, Nathan Julian; Timothy Julian, and his wife, Lane; Matthew Julian; Will Simpson; Luke Simpson; Zachary Shearer; Johnathan Shearer; Wesley Conrad; Tanner Conrad, Georgia Christy; Will Christy; Andrew Christy; Sophia Christy; Jack Greig; Austin Greig; Ava Greig; Quinn Greig; Ty Greig; Carter Reece; Cole Reece, and Cash Reece.     A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Durward Julian will be conducted at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain with Rev. Martin Christian officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by his granddaughter, Angie Julian Shearer. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Charlotte Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Tuesday prior to the service, or at Mr. Julian's home at other times.

    Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Grayson Bledsoe, bagpiper, providing music. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons and older great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Magill Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Roan Mountain Citizens Club, members of Gideons International, the staff and his many friends at The Waters at Roan Highlands, as well as, the members of the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.

He married Ruby Smith Julian and they had five children: Terry, Glenda, Fred, Frieda, and Adrian Jr. Adrian was a welder by trade and worked on the Manhatten Project in Oak Ridge Tennessee. He spend 30 years as a bus driver for Trailways Bus Company. He was in every state except Alaska. He graduated from Carter County High School where he was an excellent student and won many academic awards through the years.

    JOHNSON CITY - Mrs. Lynn Ellyn Julian Green, age 78, Johnson City, passed away Monday, January 19, 2023, at her residence.

    Lynn was born on January 31, 1944, in Pineville, Kentucky to Ruby Ellen “Warfield” Julian and Oscar Lee “O.L.” Julian.

    Mrs. Green was a member of Marvin’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

    Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Green; one son, Kent Julian Green his wife, Dana “Mullins” Green; grandchildren, Macie Ellyn Green, and Kenley Danielle Green; sister-in-law, Deanna Julian; nephew, Zack Julian (Faith).

    Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Cook officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday prior to the service.

    Entombment services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, January 20, 2023, at Washington County Memory Gardens.

    Mary Grace Ellis Greer, age 94, of Cookeville, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, October 18, 2019 from the NHC Healthcare in Cookeville. Mary was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee to the late Richard and Hattie Mae Julian Ellis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Fred James Greer; her daughter, Brenda Gail Oakley; a son-in-law, Jim Oakley; and three brothers, Dick Ellis, Jack Ellis and Carroll Ellis. Mary was a homemaker and was a member of Algood United Methodist Church. She was an avid quilter, gardener, reader and loved to spend time with her family. Those left to cherish her memory include three sons, William Richard Greer and wife Janna, of Cookeville, David Lewis Greer and wife Denise, of Dunlap, TN, and James Bert Greer and wife Kim, of Cookeville; two daughters, Catherine Grace White and husband Michael, of Lebanon, TN and Rebecca Sue Greer, of Cookeville; ten grandchildren, Patricia Shoulders and husband Brad, Kelly VanHoven and husband Pete, Scott Oakley, Jason Oakley and wife McKenzie, Robert Greer, Jonathan Greer and wife Kara, Natalie Lutz and husband Philip, Brittany Johnson and husband Mark, Beth Greer and Elijah Greer; twelve great grandchildren; three brothers, Warren Ellis and wife Barbara, Glen Ellis and Robert Ellis and wife Barbara. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Mary married Fred James Greer about 1945 in Carter County, , , Tennessee.     Harry Hugh Kerley, age 87, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 18, 2021. A native of Roan Mountain, TN, he was the son of Tom and Helen Julian Kerley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses: Bill and Ruth Kerley, Lawson and Clarene Kerley, Bob and Gloria Kerley, and Betty Lou Kerley Higgins.
    Mr. Kerley grew up in the Holiness Church of Roan Mountain where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a 1952 graduate of Cloudland High School and attended East Tennessee State College. Afterwards, he took the position of farm management of the Hump Mountain, 2,300-acre sheep and cattle operation for his uncle, Oscar Julian. During this time, Harry was named the “Young Farmer of the Year” for Carter County. In the same year, he became office manager of Farm Credit Services, a position he held until retirement.
    Harry married Josephine Miller of Tiger Valley, and they were to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary on December 21, 2021. They made their first home in Tiger Valley and were members of Tiger Valley Presbyterian Church. In 1968, they moved to Mountain City and became members of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and belonged to Dr. John Payne’s Sunday School Class.
    In addition to his wife, Mrs. Josephine M. Kerley, those left to cherish his memory include his five children and their spouses: Kathy and Dan Osking, Annette and Donald Greer, Brenda and David Arnold, Tom and Donna Kerley, Don and Heidi Kerley. He is survived by ten grandchildren: Ian Osking (Ihla), Justin Osking (Gabrielle), Ashley Casaday (David), Warren Kerley (Bailey), Jake Greer (Montgomery), Will Kerley, Nathan Arnold, Sam Kerley, Shane Greer, and Stacy Greer. He is also survived by three great-grandsons: Finn Osking, Carl Ben Osking, and Grant Kerley and was expecting his first great-granddaughter in February. A sister-in-law, Jean Davis and a brother-in-law, Bill Miller also survive.
    The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Mountain City from 2:00-4:00 PM with the funeral service to follow with Pastor Ricky Campbell and Pastor Richard Stout officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 2708 Elizabethton Hwy, Johnson City, TN. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews: Steve Kerley, Brad Higgins, Paul Davis, Jimmy Buchanan, Charlie Bowman, Scott Davis, and Floyd Reeser.

    ELIZABETHTON - Harold Dean Boone, age 74, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went to be with his Lord on June 22, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.


    'Dean', as he liked to be called, was born at home in Roan Mountain to the late Oran and Martha Greer Boone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Boone, wife, Ramona Smith Boone, and granddaughter, Sierra Rollins. Dean was a 1963 graduate of Cloudland High School and a member of his beloved Hunter Methodist Church. He retired after 43 years as a printer (Kingsport Press, Inove Graphics, and Arcata Graphics). He had an infectious smile, loved a cold Sprite from Sonics, known for looking spiffy and being a momma's boy, and loved country cooking. In his spare time, he was passionate about tinkering with old cars, camping, woodworking, hunting, and wine making.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted companion Judy Boone Orr, and five children: a daughter, Donna Pearce Harrell (Jim); a daughter, Theresia Boone Cannon (Tim); a son, Kyle Daniel Boone (Norma Livingston); a daughter, Robyn Boone Moore (Calvin Hyder); and daughter, Rebecca Boone Rollins (Michael); 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Boone (Mary); a brother, Jim Boone (Johnnie); a sister, Ann Teter; a sister, Grace Canter (Red); a sister, Charlotte Julian (Bud); and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.

    A service to celebrate and honor the life of Harold Dean Boone will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Pastor LeAnn Crandall and Associate Pastor Mike Berry will be officiating. Music will be provided by Hunter and Sally Berry. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday or at his residence at other times.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Greer Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Jim Harrell, Tim Cannon, Nathan Boone, Matthew Cannon, Robby Holly, John Canter and Alan Tisdale. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mike Shouse, Dewey Oliver, Bobby Bullock, Calvin Hyder, Clint Bowers, and Men of the Carter County United Methodist parish.

    Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, to go in procession.

    A special thank you to recognize his primary physician Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Dr. Daniel Barocas of Vanderbilt, Dr. Devapiran Jaishankar of ETSU and staff, and especially Judy and Victor Deloach and employees and staff of Ivy Hall's B' wing for the dignity and respect they gave while treating and caring for our beloved father.

    Frederick Wayne Julian was born on August 30, 1949, to Ruby and Adrian Julian, in Elk Park North Carolina.
    Fred or Freddy, as he was known to most, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 30, 2021.
    Fred was the consummate sports enthusiast and was a virtual walking encyclopedia when it came to sports facts and information. He graduated from Cranberry High School in 1967 after a stellar high school career, both academically and athletically. He attended Sandhills Community College on a basketball scholarship before transferring to East Tennessee State University where he earned a degree in Business.

    Left to carry on his memory are his loving companion of more than 30 years, Kaye Hughes; his daughter, Jessica Julian; his stepchildren, Hannah Green and Sanford Green; his grandchildren, Ayla and Finch; his sister, Glenda (Ray) Rensi; his twin sister, Frieda (Craig) Briggs; his brother, Adrian Julian II; his sister-in-law, Shad Peters; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hughes; and a plethora of nieces, nephews and friends. One of his greatest joys was being "Gampy" to Ayla and Finch.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Smith Julian; his father, Adrian Julian Sr.; his brother, Terry Julian; his niece, Chayne Rensi; his great-nephew, Harley Foster; his father-in-law, Jim Hughes; and his mother-in-law, Buddy Hughes.
    Fred was passionate about everything that he did or believed and would get very animated and expressive about a range of interests that included sports, current events, politics, justice, fairness. Fred was always there to listen and support the downtrodden. He never met a cat or dog he didn't love.
    Our Fred was enigmatic. He will forever be remembered for his love and dedication to family and friends.
